  2. Well i just dont know??? the lubrication properties are good but i suspect that its too viscus, tho maybe you could add it at a lower concentration? Ive just started producing my own biodiesel so have lots of nice filtered and de-watered waste veg laying around. What i dont have is an old saw surplus to requirements to experiment with.
  3. BG85 blower just got delivered! it was an ebay xmas present to myself (arnt they the best kind) It fires up and runs nice, will be putting it to work on Sunday then strip and clean as i am with all my saws. I actually enjoy doing an end of year tidy up on all my kit. Anything i should know about these that tend to wear or break?
  4. Just had my 020t on the bench, given the carb a clean and re-adjust as working with it weekend just gone i found it stalling out a lot and mainly when it was hanging from my harness, it was a PITA to start again? could this be an air leak? seems ok, no change in revs when tilted from side to side.
  5. Just gave my 028super a good clean, sharpen and tune up. its going to a new home today love this saw but have just bought a 038super Then gave the bench a well needed clean and tidy ready to strip and clean my 020t. How do you get the flywheel off the 020t? it doesn't use the standard screw puller?

    038av super

I've just bought one to! must be the season for it. Cant wait for it to get delivered. I got a 028 super as well, great saw just need a bit of extra grunt sometimes when ringing up so went for the 038 super :-)
  7. Hi Spud, thanks but the saw has had a good service with new parts added, runs like a dream just broke the chain break handle and trying to get a new one. thanks for the info on part numbers too. makes a lot of sense now.
  8. Does anyone know if this 038 hand guard BRAKE HAND GUARD FITS STIHL 038 MS380 CHAINSAW | eBay will fit on my 028super? it looks the same and the part no. are just too similar! 028super hand guard - 1118 790 9100 038 hand guard - 1117 790 9100 Thanks
  9. Well not on my bench but been messing with the car today, think ive got an air leek in the fuel sys. played about with it for abit but now in garage as i need it for monday eek! Pi**ed off so into the shed i go, fix a cordless drill that had a dodgy trigger. Also have a TS350 that needs a new clutch needle bearing. Does anyone know if this is replaceable as it looks like a press fit, or do i need a new clutch drum complete with bearing?
  10. My dads mcculloch mt300x strimmer. symptoms: rough ideal and hesitant pick up. First tried fresh fuel, cleaned air filter, check spark plug condition and gap. No change so went to tune carb, couldnt get it to ideal right so started looking at the fuel system. found a small crack in the fuel line where it connects to the carb. with enough line to play with i just snipped off the bad bit and refit. It started up much easier so i retuned the carb and it now runs like a good un! Just in time for the F1 too, winner
  11. A TS350 Super i just picked up off ebay. Intermittent runner, im thinking a good old clean, new filters and maybe a carb kit and she'll be good to go. Bought it for a one off job, makes it worthwhile at the price i got it for
  12. WYK just starting to look into porting now and finding the stuff on the forum really interesting. quick question i see you have adjusted the high (top and bottom) of the transfer port, this will change the timing, will it not? what affect will this have and what else do you need to do to keep everything else working together ie inlet and outlet ports? Thanks Ric
  13. Im no spud but you will need to block the crank with ether a piston stop or, what i use, a length of string in the spark plug hole. you also may be able to do it with the chain brake on? EDIT - no thats nonsense! sorry Flywheel is normal thread so anti to loosen, and you will need a flywheel extractor to get it off. the extractor threads onto the flywheel and pushes it of the crank. you can do it with a screwdriver behind it and tap it off. i find some easier to do than other this way so got myself an extractor. also never needed an air gun, good job seen as i dont have one :-) ric
  14. Spud may be on to something there, did he take the flywheel off to clean? when i have done so i found my flywheel had two positions for the woodruff key, my saw just backfired away to itself until i changed the position and it started first time. i know know some flywheels have different positions for different types of ignition coils and electronic. ric
  15. Finished my 028av rebuild, it was a total strip clean and replace oil seals type job. Did it mainly to get a good understanding of how a 2 stroke works (i learn by doing) having a good look at the piston and it would seem some kind person has ported it in the past, always did think it had more beans than other 028's. looked conservative compared to some pic ive seen but defiantly moded, wish id take a photo now. anyway she is all back together and after a carb tweak starts on the button and is running sweet. i'll be selling this one so will get some photos and vid up soon to see if i can generate some interest Im confident the rebuild has gone well but was looking at getting a pressure and vac tester will this one do? Hand Held Pressure And Vacuum Pump Brake Bleeder Test Kit ( WBW Tools ) | eBay anyone know of a cheaper one that will do the job? Ric
  16. What a fantastic idea! just whats needed in this catch 22 world we live in. Would jump at the chance if it was a little closer to Sheffield.
  17. One last thing and then im out of ideas. Does the crank shaft move or wobble as if the crank bearings are worn? Just thinking under load in the felling cut could worn bearings cause the oil seals to leak? Ric
  18. I just love tinkering with, well, anything really. at the momment i have a 028av and a 020t on the bench, both are getting a full strip, clean and replace all rubber and/or worn parts, pots cleaned and polished with new pistons and rings. just done this to my 028super and its now good as new. im keeping the 020t but the 028av will be for sale, hopping to get a 038super or magnum from the sale.
  19. Hi all, new to the forum so thanks for having me. After having a similar problem with my 028 super (practically the same saw) i think i can help. For me, the problem was the crank oil seals, replacing these had a dramatic and instant effect. I then decided the replace everything rubber with the exception of the carb boot as they tend to be expensive and mine was in good shape. unfortunately replacing the oil seal means a total strip but having done it i can tell you its not as complicated as you may think. My 028 avs now runs like a beast! im also thinking of getting a 038 super as my next saw and doing it all again
