  1. Yes used about 1:8 fuel to charge. When charge was removed shut everything down and some of the original fuel that was left is now charcoal Openspaceman When referring to yields was that by volume or weight?
  2. Thanks So from the point of view of basic BBQ charcoal the lower temps produce a higher yield. Are there any advantages to a smaller yield with more fixed carbon? Don't really know what this means anyway as science is not my strong point
  3. Your welcome to have a go with mine. I am out near Tavistock
  4. Woodworks

    oak oil

Also linseed will make it go very dark. Used some left over boiled linseed on a douglas fir table its now near black
  5. Well the charcoal is fine but looks no different from my other burns which presumably were hotter. How does the temperature it's made at affect the charcoal?
  6. Don't get me started on Snows. Few years back was looking at new trucks and none of the branches could even let me see a remotely similar model to what I wanted let alone drive one not to mention their complete inability to call me back. Funnily enough they didn't get my money.
  7. Seen them in the showroom. The combustion design I think is much the same as Woodwarm (also Devon made) which is no bad thing A mate had one and was so pleased with it got a second for his place in France
  8. Didn't have much joy selling it but it makes great charcoal from what would usually be waste Burns OK as logs but needs lots and lots of air then gone in a flash. With the larger machine I suspect it would be more saleable. The TR70 bagged it but the problem with this is you end up with lots of crumbs in the nets which would make a mess every time you move the sack.
  9. Got MK2 fired up but only time for one charges worth. Got temperature sort of under control but better sealing required as it still climbed to 600C for a bit. Flue and firebox seem to get pretty much the same temperature so can see why the Exeter just measures here. Mine has a 6mm hole now drilled in the side So much less exciting having things under control though and other than a bit of smoke you would not have known the thing was running. No heat issues this time apart from the stainless angle that support the charge has still sagged even at these much lower temps. Got to work tomorrow so will not get to check the charcoal until tomorrow night.
  10. Nice idea but the snag with a mesh is all the branch loggings get cut around 100mm long so even the thinest pieces can fail to fall through as they just roll off the top.
  11. How about a conveyor with a leaf blower mounted underneath so light material gets blown off target into another hopper?
  12. Thanks GreenGui Is there much to be saved dealing direct with Poland as it seems well priced as it is?
  13. Would use it with vented 1m3 bags. They could be tipped out onto a concrete floor and picked up with the loader bucket. The other snag with the TR70 was the proportion of small twigs to small branch material was poor but having one that can handle larger material would improve that ratio. It's still a lot of money for something I cant sell but branch loggings make great charcoal which I might be able to find a market for
  14. Sold my TR70 a while back but now regretting it. Just looking around and came across this PTO WOOD PROFFESIONAL PROCESSOR WITH CONVEYOR - TRACTOR - not wood chipper | eBay Anyone had dealings with Machinery Sales EU or their branch loggers?
  15. Thanks Steve Will track down TVIs thread and have another look through. I thought the Exeter measured flue exit temperatures though but could be mistaken
  16. Good stuff HertsWood. How big is you charge chamber My MK2 will be ready for another round in a day or two. Now got a thermometer and probe. Cant put it into the charge chamber but can get it into the fire box or touching the outside of the charge chamber. What sort of temperature should I be looking to have these at and should it be steady throughout the burn? Thanks
  17. Yes we all want a bargain! We don't do bargains just quality dry logs. We get the same to some extent but they usually come back having bought some soggy tosh elsewhere Brackley Firewood As said by others start it as a sideline and see how it goes. You are doing the work a year in advance so money is slow to start off with.
  18. Such as? Only petrol single cab pickups I could find were yank monsters that would not fit in our lanes. We have changed to a petrol car after 20 years of driving diesels.
  19. Often see folks raving about remaps or the latest chip but there must be a downside. Presumably if you get more power and better efficiency the manufacturers would do it so whats the downside? Thanks
  20. What are we supposed to replace them with? I tried a new truck with it's fancy filters and it was PITA. Had to get rid and get an older model without the filter. DPFs in modern diesels are a problem for lots of drivers doing short trips. We need reliable new alternatives before replacing the older models.
  21. They just arrived here this afternoon
  22. The clip does not do them justice but got to see these bad boys close up back in 2004 and the noise they make is mighty impressive. Could hear them racing the following day and we live 12 miles away [ame] [/ame]
  23. I would say sapele and douglas fir
  24. Not a Dmax if doing short trips like log deliveries http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/arb-trucks/93878-dmax-issues-where-do-i-stand.html
  25. In this video you can see the charge chamber wrapped in insulation at 5 min 23 [ame] [/ame]
