Hi all I brought a tirfor the other day and there was an spare wire rope that the guy said I could have for free! I took it away thinking great but the ends been cut off so can't thread it in the winch!! Is there a way to re chamfer the end or is it just best to get rid?? Cheers in advance

I've got a shed full of tools not being used atm due to a new job. This new job will probably mean they won't be used until jan-feb at the earliest. I'll put some fuel stabiliser in them next weekend but would you all do anything else with them on top of that?? How often would you give them a run to keep them in working order??

Replacing a muffler on a 023c stihl and need to know if the heat shield goes against the cylinder and then the gasket or the gasket first and then the heat shield???

Chain brake not chain brackets!!! Bloody phone!!

After months and months of deliberation (spud I apologies for the endless messages that have lead to nothing!!) I decided to put my old and broken 044 and Jonesered 630 on ebay along with a few old broken sds drills, a broken generator and a few other bits of busted shite and unbelievably it all came to a grand total of £276!!! I was thinking of getting the saws fixed but after weighing up the pros and cons it all lead to clearing out the shed and see what's around when all sold and a spare cash boost! So after endless hour's of looking I came across a ms441 on a second hand site for £400. I rang the guy and it turned out he brought it new 5 years ago for him and his son to cut a few oak trees down and he's now to old to start it/run it due to its weight. He then said " the least I will take is £300 before you start haggling" I was going to offer £350!!! so I drove over today and picked it up and the guy was genuine, showed me the receipt for it and let me have a good look at it before starting it up. Took of all the covers I could and it's near spotless inside, can lift it up by the pull cord with 25in bar on, took spark plug out and chamber looks brand new, plus an original piston so looking good! His son came out to fired it up and it ran like a dream! They said it's done around ten hours work but I think it's done more but still far from abused! I'll get it up the service shop for a full check over in the week but so far so good and looks like I've got a saw for life with how often ill use it! I brought an ms390 a few months back and thought it was a good saw but the difference in quality between the two is unreal! There not even in the same league imo and that's before I've even cut anything with the 441! I have a few questions tho if anyone could help 1 it's a 2011 model and it says c on the chain brackets but not on the side badge. The ones I used before said "ms441-c" on the side so does this mean anything?? 2 is there any issues with this model of saw? 3 what bar size would you say is its max? 4 perfect fuel mix ratio 5 is it the m-tronic and if so why does it h and l screws?? Probably daft questions but I did my research before purchase just these these last few ones are niggling at me!

Just been to a garage and he said to try this exact thing first mate!! He's done it for me and I'm now going in a long drive to test it si fingers crossed it is that!!

Cheers all I'm not going with the one that's been sat now as loads of folk I no have said the same as you lot!!! I'm going to put a new clutch in mine and get it looked at proper....I've already changed all the filters and changed the oil but seems it needs further investigation!! Thanks all who replied

Need a new clutch on my convoy and it's smoking quite bad (black smoke) when under stress so im thinking piston ring?? It's also an old engine and it don't perform as good as any of the transits/convoys I've had in the past so I'm going to put a new engine in to solve everything in one job! So my two options are an engine out a van I knew well but has done over 150,000 miles lol OR I found out a friend of a friends dad had someone smash into the back off him while driving a 7 month old transit 16 yrs ago so he scrapped the rest but kept the engine, box and starter etc in his garage and it's not moved since!! It had apparently only done 16,000 miles but my worries are because it's been stood for 16 years!! Either engine is going to cost me £150 to get put in and I'd only like to pay once! I'm tempted by the "new" one cause of the low miles and it's shiny so must be rare to find now lol but with it being stood so long is best to use an engine I know will fire up and drive start away??? Any help appreciated

Cheers garden kit you were correct mate!!! It was on so tight tho!! I took it up my mates and we had it in a vice, me holding both handles down solid and him using a huge pair of grips round the whole head and wrenching it off lol New fuel filter, carb tuned up, grease in the box and got a big bump head on it with 3mm line so all good to go!

Anyone used this model?? Picked one up for £80 (1996 year) and can't seem to find out much about them The head isn't bump feed, it's the one you have to losen off and pull the cable but it's like on a neck from the gear box that appears to be one complete unit! Can I get this off and fit a bump head or is it a new gear box?? Thanks in advance

That's good to hear!! Think I'll take a gamble then and buy the saw as I've seen the power heads alone fetch £150 for spares and repair on ebay and the bar and chain is worth £50 second hand! Would you recommend a meteor spud or is there any other I should look out for?? And would you buy a new cylinder anyway or is it better to salvage the original??

Been offered a 044 at a bargin price (£150 with new 20in bar and chain) off a farmer friend who had years until it stopped one day when cutting railway sleepers I've got it up my mates shop now and he is basically saying I might get lucky on the chamber but if not he will only warrant a genuine stihl p/c or will fit a meteor at my own risk!! He is a good guy and won't let me waste my money on stuff he don't think is TRULY up to stihl standard so as always I'm after free advice off here have any of you used a meteor piston on a big saw and then used it heavily with good results, would you buy the saw and get the work done or just leave it well alone!!! Thanks in advance
