  1. Thanks Its only one you walk behind 20" cut, about £3000 new its a 2002 so would it be worth £1000?,
  2. No I am just an innocent bystander as its not my trade, I am an engineer. If I was pricing the job, I would always leave a written no quibble quote , Risk assesment and method statement and copy of insurance cert then they can see you are a professional, with insurance should it go wrong. My wife runs a very small Tool sales business aimed at the motor trade, its only to try and make a few quid to pay for holidays. She is quite often under cut by people selling something for £20 and only making £1 this just isnt sustainable and some of these idiots ruin the business then go bust, what keeps many of our customers is if they have a problem we sort it out straight away even if we loos on it as we keep the customer. Times are very tight but its not worth doing jobs for free
  3. To cut a long story short. I need to sell a top of the range Ransomes professional mower. Whats the best way to do it and value it?
  4. Can I put slate chippings or stones over the soil just to keep the weeds out?
  5. I went to buy some trailer wheels at the weekend and the guy next door had about 30 Bonsis in the garden, one being a Conker, it was fantastic, but I would just kill it LOL
  6. Thats a good point Daughter tell her dont touch she never will, lad well as soon as your backs turned he will touch it, one thing about kids they are all different. I got him a small axe when he was 12, cuts wood in the garden supervised
  7. THanks, happy with the size now just dont want them to die
  8. People often dont realise its cheaper to train the staff and do the job properly and safely than face the courts if it goes wrong as if it dose you can prove you did everything in your power to avoid it. THe 1974 H&S at work act has dramaitcally reduced accidents but people still die and are injured at work, this is why the HSE and others are pushing behavioural safety as its now peoples behaviour that is causing some of these accidents. I still have a chat to people who dont wear PPE on our site, many dont see any danger as they dont know the site well. Winchmans safety lesson for the day If you dont wear eye protection read this Health and safety motivational speaker, safety training films | Ken Woodward
  9. Now that looks like a proper one. I have a bit of involvement with Health and Safety and hold a few qualifications and I am appaled at some peoples lack of the correct papers, or they have a worthless document written by an idiot. Its not hard, well the first one is, but take your time, ask and produce a good basic form then ammend it for each job, and I mean each job, when you price a job I would state that you will supply a Risk Assesment and Method statement as it make you look professional and will help you should you be taken to court over the job.
  10. Thanks We live in a small terraced house with a small garden. Possibly in 10 years we might be able to move but I doubt we will ever have space to plant it in the garden. So its pots for us, pots are about 18" tall x 12" wide, so what size should I have and should I feed them?
  11. Hello We have two small (2ft) Horsechestnut trees in pots the kids have grown, about 3 years old, how am I best caring for them?
  12. Hang on I will just pop to the shed and have a look Sorry no LOL They are very rare and in the last 10 years I have seen two I think, but you can do this on the cheap, I just sold a Fairly pto driven drum winch for £200, now its quite straight forward to fit a hydraulic motor to one and Hey Presto you have a bomb proof Hydraulic winch. A few years ago a local Mog was relieved of its winch whilst the driver popped to the toilet! Always fasten them on with these NoGo Security Enclosures Got a few electrics in the shed and a verey nice Warn 8074 its the one they based the 8274 on,
  13. Just wseen a Land rover PTO winch with a few bits welded on and used on a three point linkage on a tractor tractor pto winch forestry | eBay
  14. Thats a good point, the distance will load the price. Some of this is about image some people want a certain type of supplier. One contract company I deal with have a fleet of old vans and a back street workshop, the other has new vans, workers uniforms and a flash workshop, youve guessed, the back street one is excellent and very good on price, the falsh one isnt very good. But its a good thing to look good and professional including your website and paperwork, one point I would make is offer a copy of your insurance and risk assesment / method statement with every quote as it get people thinking are these people insured? Some times you get what you pay for
  15. Just putting a PTO winch with correct mounting kit for a series Land Rover in the forsale section
  16. Well said
  17. I assume you have considered what if it goes wrong and takes longer? We have a contractor at work, he is paid about £3000 a week. A lot I know but if you ask him it gets done and works, so really its good value. Its all down to what your operating costs are these can be bumped up by days when you have no work but still have costs. Really you shold know how much it costs you to operate per day and a %age profit on top. I know a lot of people just think of a number and to be honest about 10 years ago I was asked to repair some automated production lines, I based my price on his only other option was to fly the manufacturer out, collect and deliver him from the airport and feed and water him, so I told him £300 a day + fuel. He said he would call me back, he did and tried to haggle, but as he stiffed me on the last rate I did for him he had no option but to pay it by the day, took me just over an hour to sort out and he had lost two weeks production messing about and haggling. My point is if the customer isnt happy, dont do it for free as its pointless not making money, if you have a problem it could cost you to do his job! It can be a difficult price to work out when everything is taken in to account.
  18. Thanks
  19. £10 didnt think they would be worth that much!
  20. Thanks I think we will give it a try in a fewweeks just sorting out the garage to make some space, He wont be getting a chain saw LOL He can use a bow saw, build a bit of muscle
  21. Thanks for the tip, if we get started I think we will have to be choosey who we sell to as all our local garages are operated by the big companies, but a few shops every few weeks would be a start, I wonder if garden centers would buy?
  22. IMHO the 8274 is the only good electric winch, its an old simple design, one allen key and you can strip it and very robust. Its based on the Bellview electric winch a design from the 50s I think, you still see the odd one about, they are the only one that comes close.
  23. Didnt know about the posh PTOs LOL Ryders no About 10 years ago things were tight work wise but as I worked 4 on 4 off I had some spare time. I got chatting to the late Phil Gordon of PG Winches in Cornwall and he helped me set up Winches International, I had a dealer ship from one of the big boys, buy just as we got started people started importing the chinese rubbish via Ebay, so I had competition at half the price but very poor quality but people bought them as they just wanted cheap. THe repairs side the big companies wanted to pay in two months and the off roaders wanted it fixed for free, so we shut up shop and sold tools instead, some thing we still do to the local garages, I still buy and sell the odd winch though. So if you have a broken one to sell let me know
  24. Thanks I think he gets it from me as I have bought and sold some S**te over the years to buy our caravan and pay for the holidays etc Were would we buy the nets ready made, the big killer is fuel, I go to work and drive weekly past a place that throws pallets away so its just a matter of filling the trailer and he can cut them up in the garage. What should we charge? what would you do with the wooden pallet blocks?
  25. Cant think what would be up with the PTO to cause this arnt they just a gear box? Now is the plate the clutch presses on worn? this is difficult to explain, with out seeing it, but if the lever travels so far then stops, if the clutch plate is worn you cant exert the correct force on the pressure plate to transmit the torque as the lever can push it no further? This might be rubbish, can you post a picture?? Cant be much its so simple
