  1. What kills the job is the low value chip, but that can’t be helped, if the site is not steep get a harvester in, it will stop his staff problems and get the job done and move on,
  2. is there reason why it can’t be done with a harvester. ... surely he will give you more than 20p for big lumpy pieces of chip/firewood.
  3. How many pieces a day are you cutting,.
  4. Two things that drag on your earnings in coppicing is cutting the low value chip out of the bent stems and lowering the clumps of stems after felling, have to go like hell to make £150 pd, which in the long term is not sustainable, also for its size the timber is very heavy to handle. Plus short working days at the moment.
  5. Hi jack. is it £1.50 for a six foot strainer and putting a point on it yourself. How much for a five foot six stake.
  6. Our timber cutter from Dartmoor unlike him to be from this forum for so long, hope he's ok.
  7. I have a old tractor that I can pull my pickup up a steep wet hill or go as far as I can with the pickup then put the saws, fuel etc on the tractor for the final steep bit. or you could try putting tyre chains on. much cheaper than 4 brand new tyres.
  8. So what is the cut off point for you? When are you going to say enough is enough of this?
  9. So you don't mind the islamification of Britain that's taking place?
  10. That's all very well having having these nice little agendas, but in the cold light of day that just plays right into the hands of the terrorists that can play the racism card.
  11. I absolutely hate wearing saw trousers, try lugging a 100 metres of 13mm cable and four chocker chains up a steep hillside through brash, stumps, roots etc for five minutes of felling and it is easy to see why I loathe them. Can't wait to get the bastards off at the end of the day, it was much easier in the 1980's moving around in jeans before someone in a office made it law to wear them, but they have their place.
  12. When thes came out in 1977 they were the dogs bollocks, very modern for its time, when you went through town driving a county everyone took notice, even today that still happens, I still have one albeit a four cylinder unlike the six cylinder in the picture, can't beat a county,
  13. It's just idea to avoid the cost-hassle of replanting, and to keep the forest managers in work by doing a little bit of thinning little and often.
  14. I'm glad someone else knows what ' tushes ' mean, it's a word that is rarely used these days, since mechanised harvesting took over. Tushing out with the county a thing of the past!!
