Been burning Willow most of the winter here- stuff that was cut and split about 18 months ago. When we split it, water was running out of the logs. Dried well but isn't a very dense wood so although it burns well and gives off decent heat it seems like I'm forever loading the stove...

Their start time will dictate when they are paid from genereally ie if they had to come to your yard then drive 3 hours to site then they should be paid for this, same as if they came to your yard and drove to a job 20 minutes away, it amounts to the same thing and if you are looking at work with further travel time that it should be costed in accordingly. You might not win the work because of this but if you decide to take the contract on then it comes off your bottom line not your employees. As far as sick pay goes, then doctors note for more the standard allowed for self certification, think that's 5 days now but if you injure yourself at work leading extended time away then it's standard SSP. If you continue to pay the employee at their full rate, you are admitting liability for their injury (if self inflicted) and your insurers will be looking at a rather large payout.

Had a 25" on my 880 a while back and it fairly flew through the timber. Was fun for about 10 minutes then the weight of the saw started to kick in and the novelty wore off.

Got a 372XP running a 25" bar and an MS880 + 36" bar. How big is the stuff you need to be cutting? Had the 880 firing into some 5' dia oak today-flew through it. TBH after spedng time on the 880 the husqy feels like a little toy!

Hi Mate, I think Pie eater Pete on here had keyhole surgery sometime last year for a torn labrum/ ligament damage- could be worth pm'ing him? Personally I have dislocated both my shoulders playing rugby and one got so bad that in a given position it would literally fall out of joint (labrum had come away from the glenoid in on position). I had open surgery which is a longer recovery and meant a month stuck in a sling then 4-5 months of physiotherapy. I believe the recovery from keyhole is much faster. Speak to your surgeon and physio as well. It's a graduated recovery so you're not totally inactive for all this time. Do not fall into the trap of thinking that building muscle in the shoulder will help its stability. That comes from the labrum and the rotator cuff muscles/ tendons All the best with it and personally I would bite the bullet and get it done- at a longest 6 months recovery isn't really a long time in the grand scheme of things

Don't remember any Leylands I worked on having a dipstick for the back end oil. From memory there's a level bolt on the left hand side of the rear casing just above PTO level. 13/1/2" spanner if I recall correctly. From the symptoms you describe it certainly sounds like lack of oil in the back end. Apologies if it sounds like teaching your mate to suck eggs but he isn't dipping the engine oil assuming one reservoir covers all is he?

How much time do you have? Personally I would draw them out accurately and then go to my local metal profiler and get them to cut me some- shouldn't really be costing much more then £30 odd. Realise there's a bit of your time to invest at the start but keep the drawing to hand and you can re order easily every time you need a set.
