  1. Hi AC big welcome, as you've found out lots of useful stuff on here! Busy period for treework is usually over the winter mate. Have a look at some of the private training companies too, way cheaper but same (or better) standards (plus I got lots more cups of tea when I went independent). Borders Training is based in Durham, I did a few courses with Lowe Maintenance near Skipton, Phill from Lowe Maintenance is a top guy. Worth getting a few books on tree biology etc too. I found "Trees, their Natural History" by P A Thomas was informative but quite entertaining at the same time. I'm in Teesside so not a million miles away. Best of luck mate.

    A question...

    MOOSE! (bad drivers)
  6. Buttsfield, cheers I'll check it out, usually just go to Guisborough, has 20 acres of wooded old quarry on a hill side, it's very nice, £35 quid a year, open weekends bank hols and one evening midweek through the summer, pub right opposite boxing day fancy dress trial usually quite amusing... still not hurt myself but I go pretty easy, just like to get out and about and wheelie up the banks, keeps me sensible on the roads Here's a pic of me posing gratuitously...
  7. You'll be kept busy walking that Husky Chris Here's lil Willo the rescue mutt, sleeps 18 hours a day, has barked 4 times in 5 years, doesn't fetch, doesn't play ball, doesn't go for a walk if its raining... suspect she may be a cat...
  8. Hiya Lorry nice bike fella, MX is a bit too fast for me! I like a bit of Trials though, Gas Gas 280TXT, took it to the Topcliffe MX track once, was a bit of a giggle but the bike wasn't too happy with me and I got lapped by a 9 yr old... track is quite nice though, well maintained etc, should be quite close to ya. One at Doncaster (not been) and one at Sedgefield which is apparently a bit ropey?
  9. Kapok-flip-flop-lunge...
  10. Sounds horrific and no I'm no downhill monster and my bike is pants, you'd probably beat me down on foot. There are some pretty good trails in there though! Well worth a visit Well done again, maybe I will do that 4 mile fun run after all....
  11. Good work mate! Just managed to get my donation in for ya, go mountain biking at Hamsterley so know how harsh it can be in the wet! Top skills, you deserve many a pint!
  12. Thanks for the input guys i collared the gardener this morning and explained the importance of correct cut placement etc. She was really good about it and seemed geniunely interested and is currently out in the rain on a Sunday morning identifying bbr and collars and de-stubbing. Celebratory bacon sarnies all round me thinks.
  13. Fair point. So best time to prune is in fact now? Regardless of saw drunk gardener? Understand the whole Prunus/chrondo timing thing but everything I've read so far seems to suggest dormant period is the way to go. Is this a very old skool attitude/potential conspiracy. Thanks
  14. Very nice indeed! Don't know if it was on purpose but really like the "wobble" on the sword, makes it look authentic in a hand forged smash with a hammer kinda way.

    Air rifle

Would love some of the aforementioned rifles but I got a second hand Webley Vulcan .177 with a tasco(?) scope 5 years ago for £80 with a bag from a local dealer. Few rabbits/pigoens at close range, it could easily handle rats I reckon. Got a cheapie laser sight from ebay and it stays pretty true. You could then spend the other £200 quid on beer and then fritter the rest away...
  16. Not exactly a diesel but toying with the idea of mounting a smallish spot sprayer onto a gas gas trials bike with sidecar for real go ANYWHERE capabilities (read - almost plausible way of getting paid to ride trials bike and not having to carry herbicides on my back). Might even get away with a small boom type affair? I know a quad would good but I haven't got one! Any thoughts?
  17. Thanks for your thoughts, that was my initial idea but started thinking maybe with all the beasties about this time of year it might be better to leave them on, let the potential P and D into the stubs, hoping they don't get into the stem by winter and take them off then? Trees would then have to try to seal (effectively) the same wound twice but might this approach be better? Thanks for your input.
  18. Gardener *cough* at my friends mums house has "cleared those pesky lower branches" from the trees so she can get the mower in a bit easier. Timing could be better and most limbs look like they've been removed with a plastic knork/angry badger on a stick. Some of the stubs are half a metre long... Whaddya think is best for the trees, remove stubs now or wait till dormant season? Trying to weigh up the pros and cons of each. Mostly Oak, Birch and Field Maple. Roughly 20 years old. Thanks people. P.S Great site I've been lurking for years ever since I first started thinking about Arb, feel like I know some of the regular posters though we've never met. I love that when I google an Arby question 9 times out of 10 there's a related thread on here, thumbs up and thanks for the inspiration. P.P.S Still laughing about the Solititer fish..... P.P.P.S May have derailed my own thread there.
