It's on arbtrader at £1850 but open to sensible offers. Putting it on ebay today to see if any interest. John M

If anyone is looking for a good wee chipper, I have just put one on arbtrader. PM for more details if required. I thought we had a chipper forum at one time, but maybe not - anyway hope this is OK here.

I'm for clear view (cos its what I have?) best to go for over kill on MAX output- you don't have to run it flat out, but its nice to be able to crank it up when you need to. vision 500 is great stove. and will support back boiler if you want it. wish I had gone for that option from the start. It would have to be v good (and cheap) to tempt me away from the suitcase; Wheels when you are on hard surface, strong handles when you have to carry it. Pockets inside and out for van keys, risk assessment docs, first aid kit and butties, and zips to keep out sawdust and mice. Easy access and everything in sight when its fully open. what more could you want!

Thanks for you advice, Yes branch fell off in typical SBD conditions. Is there a formula for working out the acceptable loading of a damaged trunk based on the moment weight of the remaining limbs and the cross section area of the trunk? (or are trees just too clever to succumb to maths). In an open field away from people this tree would not be a problem, but daily foot fall and car parking underneath what is left, makes me nervous of leaving it to correct itself.

Lovely oak tree near community hall has lost a major limb, no obvious signs of rot and fungus, but the base of the wound site is at the location of a previous pruning point which has obviously caused some weakness there. Probably sudden summer limb drop syndrome, as it failed following 3 week drought in May. Wondered what is the best cause of action. The main trunk is now about half the diameter, and all the weight is on one side. Various branches have been hacked off the tree in the past, and there is evidence of an historic similar major failure on another branch. Branches overhang car park, and the hall is used by nursery/scout and pensioner groups. Are there any options worth considering other than monolith? What would you do with it.? Your comments and advice would be appreciated.

Nice idea, but could do with some of the older models included in the drop down list of saws. eg stihl 026. I am sure you are working on that, but probably many people with older saws that are not sure of chain pitch etc.

There are areas of bad phone reception. in many of these it is still possible to send and receive texts, but not to make or receive a call. 999 will not accept text normally, but if you pre register, then you can text 999 should the need arise. Also good if low battery. Just text "register" to 999 to get more info. I did it for mountain rescue as well as work. just in case.

"Hi MATE why do have replace and baffles and fire bricks on a lot top stoves there cast baffle plates thanks Jon" Hi Jon, all the words above make sense individually, but string them together and I am having problems. Are you saying that all fires need parts changed every so often? or was the cizzer getting involved in the post :-)

I've been running clearview vision 500 flat top for 14 yrs and can't fault it. Every day for 8 months of the year. Great stove and only have to empty ash tray every couple of months. This idea of routing the air intake to prewarm works well and ensures complete burn of logs. I don't know about efficiency figures, but I love the controllability and it uses half the fuel of my previous stove. Its dead easy to light, It will stay in overnight if needs be on just a couple of logs, and ticks over on 1 log an hr, but if you want it on full volume it will burst into life in a minute or so and throw out the heat. Also this stove is one of the few 8kw stoves that will work on 6" diameter flue. Downside is the need to replace baffles and fire bricks abit more frequently then I would have liked. Also paint stinks on first few burns till its cured. Door handle gets too hot to handle. minor problems! I love it.

Thanks Acer for putting this into perspective. I had never really been aware of it until last year when I had two cases. Then once you do a small amount of reading via google it is easy to pickup on (miss)information. a little bit of knowledge ...... Is there any national log kept of suspected SBD? Obviously HSE get interested if someone is injured, but I wondered about just getting a database (albeit a very small one) of possible suspect cases? might get interesting in a few years to correlate with weather patterns etc. Thanks all for your comments.
