  1. 2 man job... 1 with pole pruners (loppers) holds the branch to be cut, 2nd man cuts the branch with pole saw simples
  2. well in that case you need to give your trainer a kick in the backside and tell him you want to cut down as many trees as possible on your last day. If he said he has taught you all you need to know then he shouldnt be holding you back from getting in the practice. Have a word with the others on the course and if they all feel the same then you need to act before its too late.
  3. It does sound a bit off to me. Maybe the problem is the location of your training/assessment, by that i mean there may not be many trees coming down so what little there is has to be shared between you??? If this is the case then maybe you could cut the first one high and use the high stump to practice more cuts? Hope you get that sorted out, you cant get good if you dont get the practice!
  4. aw damn i have been doing so much clearing up storm damaged trees lately i could have filled another 10 pages of this thread with pics.... maybe i should get the camera out the bag more often:blushing:
  5. haha hama is on a roll now, just watch him go! Website is looking good. Not sure if any of my pics would be of any use to you and Hama probably can give you much better quality ones than i have. Good work you are doing:thumbup:
  6. Good on you mate, show those machines they aint all they are cracked up to be
  7. Thats brilliant:thumbup: I always thought a fishing reel would be the best idea but i was thinking more multiplier than fixed spool. Now i see the fixed spool on the sling i almost got a chubby:lol: Like it very much:thumbup:
  8. looking good mate glad your on the mend.
  9. Geez i was only having a laugh, doesnt bother me when people laugh at things i believe in. He cuts down trees, doing many different animals (mostly insects) out of house and home not to mention how many get squashed in the process. Is a cow any different because its bigger? If it was really that important that no animals are harmed then he's in the wrong job unfortunately. If i offended anyone then i am sorry but its part of life, get used to it. I could see the point if i attacked his character or something but i only made a stupid comment with no malice intended.
  10. what? if my strop is moving because of the cutting action of the chain on my saw it means i cut my strop!!
  11. Whatever next? I used to wear cutting wellies when i first started climbing but that was only because that was all i had at the time. Man up and get some coo on your feet, you know you want too:001_tt2:
  12. Never ground any palm stumps but i guess it would be quite sloppy lets say. What is the disease? is it the red palm weevil? seems to be killing most of the palm trees these days.
  13. Hard work aint easy mate, being comfy isnt part of what we do. Sounds to me like you just need practice, your second anchor point doesnt need to be above you, it can be to the side, front, back or even below. The main thing to go for is having your main workline as high as possible and the secondary strop should be wherever you can get it that will make your balance easier to maintain. Sometimes you need to have it pulling away from your main line in the opposite direction which will hold you in the middle. Just keep practising and try lots of different positions for your strop and you will get it eventually.
  14. You should try arboretum internationale based in Perth. I did a bunch of my courses with them many years ago and they are very good. Paul Hanson is a top bloke and extremely knowledgeable in our world. here is a link to the home page... Arboretum Internationale
  15. Nat said it.... Jammy Git!!! Usually it always goes the other direction, what you think was going to be easy turns out to be a nightmare! well done you jammy git
  16. The bungee cord looked extremely frayed to start with, i would have had serious doubts about doing it at all. Lucky girl
  17. I really like tilt shift photography, it gives the subjects a completely different look
  18. Self employment is the only way forward imo. Yes you can work full time for a company and get a regular wage but you are not able to do what you want, you have to say yes sir right away sir instead of picking and choosing your next move. Being self employed also gives you the opportunity to work with different people all the time and be different places. The down side is you dont have a guarantee that you will have work every day BUT thats something that only you yourself can change, if your good then people will notice and call you more often. If you work hard, safely and do a good job then the work will come to you in the end but its not an easy road.
  19. Could you not just drive machinery around while on site? i know its still work but its sitting down work plus you will be on site and active. I can understand how you would feel and it would drive me crazy not being able to get stuck in. The most important thing is that you recover first and then see what you are able to do and work into it slowly. Good luck mate and i hope you have a speedy recovery.
  20. I guess its to chop up the beetles but i cant see how that will be effective, seeing they aint that big and could pass through a chipper unharmed although maybe a bit shaken but well spread:sneaky2:

  23. Oh man my computer is struggling with these videos, will need to try again when its cooled down. I sooo want to watch them, looks like good entertainment. As for Americans at work, Its not true that they all work like that and a good amount of them are very good. You have to remember that they dont have the anal view of health and safety that we do. The problem is companies like the one in this video with the look at me i am american and the best at "risking my life so you dont have to" approach. This is just laughable and what gives Americans a bad name. Its the same in every country, its the loud mouth idiots that think they are super humans that everyone sees and hears, so giving a bad impression of the rest. Unfortunately for America there is a large quantity of the loud mouth idiots.
