  1. I think not. Even the driest logs have some moisture content and this will condense onto the cold chimney. I doubt the chimney would ever warm up enough to prevent condensation particularly near the top. Sadly advice would be to burn smokeless solid fuel and not logs or install a stove and line the chimney. Liners get up to temperature quickly and prevent condensation. Dave
  2. Of the two, always oak. I have burnt exclusively house chestnut in my stove this year, seasoned two years and its good. It's not oak though. Dave
  3. Creosote from logs can form a hard glazed layer as it's deposited. It won't shift with a brush. Highly flammable yet a sweep will produce little soot which can give a false sense of security. Dave
  4. The issue will be the flue into 3 foot wide chimney. The gasses will condense in the chimney as too large to heat. Lined I doubt there would be more than a cup full of soot on 20% wood. Unlined the laws of physics take over. Dave
  5. You're right! Every cloud's got a silver lining...... Dave Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  6. I was daft enough to mention to my in laws you can fit a wood burning stove in a conservatory and run a twin wall chimney through the plastic roof..... Now they want one and are expecting me to keep them in free logs. Must think more before opening mouth in future. Dave Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    Poached eggs

Blimey such black magic quoted! Fresh eggs is all you need. They hold together. You can't buy fresh eggs in supermarket. Fresh means cooked day after laid. All the mumbo is because eggs aren't fresh. Dave
  13. Trading Standards have shut the pump down. Negotiating refund with garage. Dave

    MPG in van

I use an app to track my MPG. Last month figures dived. Checked fuel lines etc nothing wrong. Well I fuelled up today and MPG up 30% and back to normal. Now the thing is I'm a creature of habit and use the same garage and the app tells me the same pump......until tonight. All I did was use a different pump and MPG 30% increase. Call to trading standards I think. Dave
