  1. Just an animal trying to get by like the rest of us. Shooting foxes doesn't solve anyones problems.
  2. I want to work here... I still get aches and pains after doing it for a few years and I consider myself pretty fit and healthy. I'm one of the skinnys, so Im not as good at picking up heavy stuff / using big saws as some of the heavier people I've worked with. It must require more effort for those guys to get up trees than me.
  3. Jamesimus86 I don't just post up tree stuff though, don't usually get time at work!
  4. I imagine many of the female arbs have had to put up with lots of 'banter' in the past and must be fairly hardened to this kind of thing, therefore will be less likely to be offended? What adverts like this may do is put people off from actually getting in to arboriculture by advertising it as a testosterone-fueled male-dominated industry, which I guess at the moment it is, but why should it be? The people posting things like 'I'm not offended' etc are missing the point. The point is the advert COULD put OTHER PEOPLE off contributing to the forum / getting involved.
  5. Hi! My names James, I'm 27 year old height deficient vegetarian. I'm a rubbish climber or excellent groundsman currently working in South East London. I have worked on a self-employed basis for 2 years and worked for a few different small firms doing predominantly domestic work on average sized trees, lots of nice reductions, thins, not as many dismantles as some folk do. I work hard (as everyone says! But I really do!), I'm polite, flexible, honest/open and easy to get along with, got lots of energy. I don't struggle to get 5 days a week work so I guess I must do some things right I'm looking to relocate to Canterbury in January as my girlfriend hates London, can't say I blame her. I am happy to earn less money and live somewhere nicer. Plus she can be quite scary. I have the following qualifications... Level 3 City and Guilds Arboriculture and Forestry (2011, Moreton Morrell) NPTC CS30, CS31, CS38, CS39 and Woodchipper tickets I have a full clean driving license, full PPE, climbing kit, climbing saw. I do not currently have transport, but I can sort this out quite easily if required. I do have tattoos, none of which are offensive, but I can keep them covered if necessary. None are on my neck or face and they don't affect the way I work. I will consider any outdoor / tree related work. Commercial, domestic, rail, utility. (although my experience in some of these areas is limited) I will happily do a trial day if you can give me some notice (currently booked up until 20th Dec) I don't mind being self-employed or on the books. I am happy to work for several different small firms to fill my week and have done this before. I am on very good terms with my current employer/s and would like to work a one month notice period should I leave. (Despite not having to do this I understand that they will have particular jobs booked in advance that they would require me for) If you would like to contact me you can PM me on here, email [email protected] or call 07969765489. During weekdays I won't answer my phone because I'll be working / won't hear it, but if you leave me a message I will call you back. Also, any advice on people I could contact would be appreciated. Thanks, James
  6. Yeah could well have been unfortunately. Was one of those mega-long days where you can't think by the end of the day, so it went un-noticed. Could be anywhere really!
  7. Stuck in a sewer under Herne Hill somewhere. We did try and drive through Herne Hill in the morning though to find the road closed, just assumed someone had been shot!
  8. Hi! Not holding out much hope for this one, but you never know... Somehow, I have no idea how, a black bag containing a few climbing bits went missing in South East London (Dulwich / Herne Hill area most likely!) yesterday. Luckily it's not my full climbing kit, just a bag with spare bits and bobs. It contained 35m green Yale XTC rope, a 5m orange Yale rope, various pulleys and some ocean polyester friction cord. So yeah, if you come accross it please let me know as I wouldn't mind it back! Ta!
  9. I have done the exact same, starting a saw in my sleep sitting next to someone on the Megabus!
  10. Hi Jo, I've sent you an email enquiry regarding this ad. Thanks, James
  11. Hey, thanks for all the replies, most helpful. Think I am going to try a Petzl Swivel for my main attachment, with the two rings either side. Although the Tree Motion rope bridge thing would solve my problem, I'm a bit dubious about running rope through the shackles, because couldn't this change the way the weight is loaded on the shackles? Either way, I'm going to go with the Swivel and look at getting a new harness when I go full-time / can get more days! Thanks peoples
  12. Yeah that does sound a good idea, I may just do that, thanks!
  13. Yeah thats where I mean, thats the annoying bit! I like most other aspects of the harness, if I could just sort that one bit out i'd be a much happier person. The Butterfly hasn't done me any damage apart from the odd trapped you know what if the leg loops aren't quite tight enough, but I do like the look of the Treemotion, looks like Alfred designed it for Batman, but also looks v.comfortable . Unfortunately, I will have to wait until I'm working full-time / doing more days in July when I finish college!
  14. They don't get stuck on the shackle, they get stuck on the bit where the bridge attaches to the shackle, because after that attachment point, the bridge gets thicker, if that makes any sense?! Not got over sized rings, got the standard one and fitted an extra one of the same size to make life easier. Is there anyway I can fit a different bridge to the Komet shackles, or can I get something to replace the shackles alongside a different bridge? Or do I have to eventually bite the bullet and get a better harness?! Thanks for your help anyway 18 stoner!
  15. Hello everyone! First post and all... Was just wondering if anyone can help me with an irritating problem I have... Sometimes when climbing, the rings on the bridge of my Butterfly harness get stuck in between the D shackles... ... and the bit where the bridge connects to them. As you can imagine, this sometimes makes for uncomfortable sudden drops of 2 inches when the rings slide back to the middle of the bridge. It's not the end of the world, but I find it annoying, so any suggestions on how I could sort it out would be awesome... Ta!
