  1. All are welcome, Even if you haven't climbed before and just want to give it a go
  2. Who's up for a recreation climb, weekend of the 14th and 15th May. Camp overnight if you wish. Same location as last time, and if Mr Bolam is interested we could run a pipe smokers comp as well. What do you think Mark?

  13. Reticularia Spotted that the other day on old oak stump hadn't seen for a while. Regarding wood chip did some clearance for the highways the other year and spread the wood chip, the following year sent back to strim and there were a fair number of bee orchids grown through the chip
  14. A vid we did a couple of years ago. Pond was the best option as too many specimen trees in the garden. Felling height was so we could put in a snatch block on top to winch the tree out of the pond. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwiYpJ_1zPw]YouTube - Giant Tree falls into Giant pond![/ame]

  17. Yes I agree it's better to prevent an accident than respond to one. Could be a new thread - what to and not to say to your groundy or climber:laugh1:
  18. Strange comparision. In the case of HGV & PSV drivers they have a taco to restrict their hrs with rest periods. We just crack on to get the job done, The rescue climber is there in the event of an incident, your second driver you say is there to stop one. I'd love to hear the replies from the climber if the new groundy started telling him what to do. With the issue of someone who has just got their certificate, do they know or do others care if they are competent, this is the point I am interested in peoples points of view
  19. Some good comments here. How many think that aerial rescue should be a separate unit or as someone suggested part of cs39 or even cs41, As for time limit for the assessment there is no set time limit
  20. I was waiting for that one. is it in your opinion to just have the relevant certification to satisfy the HSE, Would you for example ask a newbie cs31 to fell a tree in private garden with the obvious sheds and green houses scattered about,
  21. Good comparison. But do you think we should gain confidence/ experience be for we become rescue climbers ?
  22. I know there has been a few threads on this line in the past. I am just interested in the general opinion of this suggestion. In the rope access industry you can qualify as a climber and then after one year and a 1000 recorded hours, I believe, you can then go for qualification as a rescue climber - this shows competents. Should we not be doing the same in our industry? At the moment if a candidate puts themselves on a weeks training course, with no previous experience, then they take an assessment where they are assessed on the same trees they have been trained on, the assessor can only judge them on those trees and if all ok pass them, are they actually competent climbers for aerial rescue? Is the apprenticeship scheme one alternative?
  23. yes i think the apprenticeship is a way forward. i will start a separate thread so we don't digress from this one
