Your right as a climber checking your kit is part of your pre-climb checks, it's just a legality of having someone putting a name and date that your kit on that day is fit for use, it also monitors where kit has been for instance you bought a karabiner or karabiners of someone and there perfect what's to say they haven't been loaded in a way that they've been stretched and are in a perfect oval shape (I've seen it) and you'd be surprised what people think is ok for use I've had some shockers!

I find that a Blakes hitch can get really tight when used you might me better off using a distel or tautline hitch.

Thanks for the good advice some good points there, I would be interested in contract climbing., but Im unsure how get started? what is a decent rate?, Id have to be self employed?? who would you approach for work?, I know this sounds like i want all the work doing for me, but Id be grateful of the advice. thanks .

Just looking for a little advice on how others, set up on the own and any advice they may have for other people wanting to give it a shot. I'm 29 with ten years experience in arb, and I don't fancy working for some one else forever lol. I know there's a lot of people in the game but to me there's only the odd few who know what there doing. ! Any advice gratefully appreciated.

I went from 13mm to 11mm and I find it awesome !! Much more flowing and neater with a hitchclimber and vt .

I started with a prussik, then went to a Blakes hitch,and still use that depending on what I'm doing, if it's a big tree with plenty of branch walks, i'll use a hitch climber with a vt, or French prussik, get a good book and practice with a length of rope when your sat doing nout, I used to get tortured for it but waiten see who people come to when they don't know how to tie something or rigg something up!! . Take it easy

What is the best way to start competion climbing, Ive been climbing 5 years and consider myself a competent climber, and I'd like to have a go at one of these comps but I dont really know how to start, is it as simple as just entering, how do you train and prepare for them ?? Cheers ben
