  1. Does anyone know of some industry value figures and statistics? Trees in Towns 2 only show LAs figures. Is there any industry values for the private sector too? LANTRA show some interesting ones but they include forestry. Nick
  2. Im doing a research and stats project soon but not sure whether to use either beech or birch seeds with Ectomychorrizae. I think Birch seeds will be faster growing as its a pioneer species? Nick
  3. Prune in dormancy when energy levels are high and the tree can 'afford' the loss.

  6. I was just wondering if anyone knew why Daedaleopsis confragosa blushes red after being handled? Or is there any online literature that may explain? Also most books say its a saprotroph, isn't it a white rotter too? How can it be both? (sorry if that sounds stupid!) Nick

  8. If anything they have gone a very slight pink, definately not redish brown after scratching it. Are there any other possibilities, or do you think its Daedaleopsis confragosa? Thanks, Nick

  10. We discovered this fruiting body on a cherry a couple of weeks ago. I have been trying to ID it from quite a few books, can't seem to spot it. Any ideas guys? Nick
  11. hamadryad, I was also thinking a Ganoderma project after recently reading the paper that you have posted on the Gano thread by F.W.M.R. Schwarze and D. Ferner. However finding 50 + specimens will definately prove difficult! Its still somthing to think about for a disitation though... Nick

  14. Hi guys, I have to do a project for a FdSc module. Its a research project that must include lots of data collecting and statistical analysis. there must also be a minmal amount of variables...one ideally. I have had a few ideas which are good but nothing fantastic. I would really like to do somthing involving P+D If anyone has any ideas that they would like to share I would be most grateful
  15. Hi guys, Unfortunatly ive had to fell a young (20ish) oak today in my garden due to building work. We are looking to use the timber as part of the frame for the extention. What if any preparation should I be doing to the wood? Should i keep it inside/outside, covered, aerated etc? Thanks in advance

  18. Ah hah! polyporus, of course i can see it now! Yea its definatly squirrel damage its just the bleeding i dont understand just yet, the mellea is on a separate site to the oaks. Any ideas of the mellea sp.?
  19. A few pictures from a a group of Turkey Oaks in Pershore except for the Honey Fungus. Pictures 1 and 2 - What i beleive to be inonotus hispidus? Just looking to double check. Pictures 3 and 4 - Unknown 'oozing' on Q. cerris. Any ideas of cause/ info? Looks dry so poss bacterial? Pictures 5, 6 and 7 - Another 'oozing' on seperate Q. cerris Pictures 8 and 9 - Armillaria sp.?

  23. nice find! I like the mycena luxaeterna too, iluminating mushroom! There must be thousands more fungi species to be found underwater now surely?!
  24. Hi guys, A few pictures to look at. Pic 1 + 2 Found on dead beech stem. Any idea of ID? Pic 3, 4 + 5 Ganoderma sp. Is the bracket small because of the small host (small log) Surely its not young because it has several stages of growth:confused1: Pic 6, 7 + 8 Bracket found on Q rubra. No idea of ident. Anybody know? Pic 9 Small growth that always seems to be on beech stems. not fungi obviusly but just wondered if it had a name/significance? Pic 9 Oak Gall ID? I was told what it was but forgot and cant find it anywhere! Nick
  25. Hi guys, I was wondering whats actually involved in utility surveying? Is it anything like a 'normal' surveyor/consultant with inspections and reports etc? Dont really know too much about utility work except there a whole load more tickets! lol Nick
