  1. Yep Blandford is down south in central north dorset.
  2. Looks like a mature Scots Pine but there isnt any orange bark near the top so it might be Corsican Pine.
  3. I've lived in the same area for 21 years. My colleagues are amazed by my local knowledge of the area. One thing my colleagues like is my knowledge of the country lanes. We had a bit of a challenge between me and my boss. The boss took the main roads i used my local knowledge to get to the same site. I beat him by 15 minutes. One of the joys of being a local lad. I also know lots of landowners which has its ups and downs. Upside lots of shooting. Downside if the landowner has a section of old railway line my boss wants his/her details asap so he can start negotiations for opening.
  4. I found these little critters growing on an Ash stump. The stump also had Many-zoned Polypore growing on it.
  5. Cut ivy at base and survey in 6 months. It will then give time for the ivy leaves to fall off and allow time for fruiting bodies (if any) to appear. Then decide what the best course of action would be.
  6. Becuase we are fairly central in the county we can buy kit from dealers and not have to travel 15+ miles to get to the dealer. Our chainsaw, brushcutter dealer is o nthe same industrial estate as our council yard. Our heavy duty mower dealer is only 3 miles out of town. So it is easy to go and order parts and collect them. Most of the time i do the engine tuning on the chainsaws. We had problems with our MS260. It would have cost us/taxpayer £46 to sort the idle out at the dealer but it took me about 5 mins. What i normally do is have the chain brake off and move the idle screw until the chain begins to creep then move the idle screw backwards until it stops creeping but doesn't stall.
  7. Tommy got kicked out of maths class today! Teacher asked him, "If I gave you £20 and you paid £5 to Joanne, £5 to Claire and £5 to Katie, what would you have?" Aparrently 3 blowjobs and enough left for a kebab was not the answer.
  8. Took pics of these beauties the other day. Both Sycamores and both for felling. Would have got pics of the crowns of the heavily damaged ones but it was chucking it down at the time.
  9. We sometimes have scouts go into one of our "smaller" woods under the pine trees. They have little camp fires which help us get rid of the collecting deadwood. The even come out and help us out by removing gorse and pine trees off the heathlands we manage. We just had a group of 20 of them helping us clear brambles and small trees off some chalk grassland. Was good fun. The scouts were used to camp fires. When they were loading stuff onto the fire they couldnt get around how hot and big it had become within an hour on constant loading.
  10. My mum is exactly the same. I generally put it in the garage with a small electric heater blasting heat at it. Either than or whilst you mum is out quickly put it in the washing machine on spin then put in the garage/shed.
  11. I tried his K80 out and it was like trying to hold a bloody cannon. Very light but difficult to control with all of that length on the end. We mainly use 32 inch barrels on our O/U. But we do have 30 and 28 inch barrels when we are rough shootin in the woods.
  12. We had a double gun day in November and we were amazed what one of the guns was using. Two 36" barreled Kreighoff K80 Super Sport WCG Ltd Ed. I know they are worth about £15-20k a peice. As i know the people who stock them. There are only 12 in the world.
  13. Brilliant movie. Watched it so many times but still makes me laugh.
  14. Put it this way. You have no excuse for saying you didnt see it when you hit it lol
  15. Kretzchmaria deutsa in first pic n old Merip in second pic. Third pic is just lichen.
  16. Just recently two of my colleagues did their CS31. Both of em passed. Granted they did have practice between. But we said to both of them "As long as the tree goes where you want it and you bring it down safely. Whether hung up or not, thats all that matters. You've shown the assessor how to bring a tree down and shown him that you know how to bring the hung up one down safely." Its a combination of saftey and correct techniques. Because we are part of a county council and the weather was a bit touch and go with the snow we managed to split the two assessing days apart by about a week. As they did the CS30/31 combi.
  17. This might get peoples hackles up on here but here it goes. This is after an afternoon of me pigeon shooting in a wood of about 1/2 acre in size. There was rape one side and Mustard/Charlotte the other. We had a hard frost the night before and the wood has a big barn inside. I was stood by the barn so i had a reasonably clear scope of shooting. I had 22 pigeons, 3 rooks, 6 Crows, 3 Jackdaws and 2 Magpies. The picture only shows the pigeons as the Corvids ended up in the pigs that surrounded the wood. Only fired 60 shots all afternoon too!!
  18. Ah ok. Bout an hour n a halfs drive from where we live. Im surprised the shoots around ur way arent keeping on top of them.
  19. LOL. My mums cousin doesnt live too far from the mendips. They live just out side Wiveliscombe. And work in the gun shop in Wivey.
  20. My mums cousins husband uses a 243 ackley. Makes a mess when hitting a fox at 250 yards. When ever we are down their way we go out lamping. The most weve ever had over a weekend was 19. Will try and dig out a picture.
  21. That is stupidly high. £49 for just having a fiddle and getting it working properly. Mind you we were charged £120 for 3 hours of investigation work on our T535 Tirfor for them just to say yes we need to order more parts. It was an old winch and would have cost more to fix than buy a new one. But still £49/hour is a piss take.
  22. How big are the replantings. If theyr are less than 6 ft high it might be worth hiring a forest mulcher. It would shred up the stumps and brambles no problem.
  23. Only got a pic of our O/U 12 Bores. The top one is my Miroku Mk38 12 bore. The bottom one is my dads Browning 325 Grade 1. Both are 32 inch barrels but only the Browning has multi choke. The list goes on: - Beretta Teknys 12 Bore 3 shot semi auto (Normally used for any legal vermin) - Beretta Extrema 12 Bore 5 shot semi auto (Normally used for any legal vermin) - .17 HMR (Rabbits and rats) - .22 (Foxes and Rabbits) - .243 (Foxes only) - Verminator .22 (Rabbits, Rats, Squirrels) - BSA Ultra Multi shot tactical (Rabbits, Rats, Squirrels, etc)
  24. Cheers for that. Next time i am down there (Tuesday) i shall get some more pics of the slime and the lil brackets incase they have got any bigger.
  25. Just had a trawl thru the fungi directory and couldnt seem to find these two. The lil brackets were growing on the same stump as the Lumpy Bracket. The slimy looking stuff was found on another Sycamore stump about 100 meters away. Any ideas?
