  5. I am sorry to bring you down with a thud about the weigh bridge defence, VOSA or plod will require you to have a pre-booked appointment with the weigh bridge and proof of if with you. Only a few weigh bridges are accepted buy VOSA as certified so the local tip will not do. Try to avoid being over loaded as the fines are HUGE.. £ 100 per kg thats £10k for each tonne, I know someone who recently got caught 2 tonne over, thats £ 20k gone, big risk. tacho is easy to use, a bit of hassle, but again big fines if caught. Why risk your business ! Sorry to be a doom merchant just these people ( VOSA etc.. ) do not mess about and collect prosecutions for fun..

    Wages??

That is mad cheap, non climbing groundie earns more for me, climbers a lot more. I think if I had degree and that was all I could earn I would not be pleased to say the least, no need to be greedy, but people need to eat !
  7. I see the arguments about MOGS rages on. The fact is we used to be able to use them on red all day long as far as we liked when we liked.. VOSA, HMRC etc.. do not like them, they have nipped up the law and the 'grey' areas are no more. I am amazed how many MOGS still rumble around on red carrying chip and log just waiting to get nicked. The penalties are so huge now that we see many nice set ups for sale at well below their true value. If you are still running such a beast, take care, they are after your MOG. Sorry to be so bleak, I am too tired of looking over my shoulder to run mine any more, and I loved bouncing along to work with the smell of red in my nose....Take care..
  8. Hello, yard is in Bromley in south east London, I am in South Norwwod but cover all of London and some into kent and all the way down to south coast. Majority in south east and kent..
  9. Looking for subbie / Freelance climber for work in London. Various types of work, but many large take downs so experienced climber required. Small 2 crew firm expanding due to heavy work load. Looking to form long term work relationship.. Contact Stuart 020 8 771 2565 or 079462 86989 for rates and organise trial days.
  10. Dear Steve, I have an apprentice who should be starting in September with you. I have sent back the required form to confirm employment but niether he or I have had any further information. He has tried to contact the college but with no joy. Please could you tell me how I can confirm that he is all good to go. he is a great lad and I do not want to let him down. Thank you Stuart ABM Trees Ltd
  11. Bandits are heavy but that is because they are quality components and build quality. We run 2 90xp's one towed and one on a mog, the PTO one has seen many other chippers come and die during the 10 years I have owned it. They almost never go wrong, you know it is there ready for a hard days work when you need it. I would always rate Bandits you will not waste your cash on endless repairs..
  12. I too have been reading with great interest, all I need to know is how long do I need to wait to get one or two ? If it is as awesome as the rc3000 and has a similar effect to dragging as the bollard has had to rigging it is a small price to pay.
  13. I run bandit 90xp PTO and tow along with TW track for tight access etc. The Bandits run and run and run, the TW gets upset all the time, its needs new bearings every 12 months, relays replaced, wires replaced stop bars replaced switches replaced and rotar fans replaced. I would never buy another TW as they are like a high maintenance nightmare, it spends more time in bits than working. Unfortunatley the parts like bearings are cheap for TW to buy but expensive for you to buy from TW... I do not understand why they will not adopt the letter box style infeed, it is like pushing sticks into a cats arse.... Sorry to go off on one, but my TW drives me insane..
  14. Very true, it's not wrong at all, it's the most right thing ever.
  15. I emailed VOSA about trailers and they replied with 1. No, Ag machines cannot tow trailers, then in the same email, 2. Yes if you do not travel over 20mph and not on motorways. they do not even know the rules themselves. It seems to me that if pc plod and mr vosa really want to do you they have so many rules and regulations they will find a way ! I have looked into the regs and they do have an exception for carrying wood chip if 'working on street trees or on land adjacent to the highway'. This could be a good one to legitamise running chip on the mog, hopefully they won't check which job you did that day.... Good luck !
  16. Grey it was, but it seems the powers that be are rapidly darkening the area to very black or doom. Has anyone ever been done for this one ? I often get followed by the friendly fuzz but never pulled... I don't think they know either.. we run as an ag machine...
  17. I am amazed how many Mogs are still being run on the roads carrying chip and log even though the law changed in 2007 stopping transport of ANY load including tools by high speed tractors or agricultural machines ! The use of Red prohibits the carrying of loads and if you use white then the helpful VOSA and VAT claim it is then haulage so Mog needs MOT. I still run a Mog a few times a week but feel increasingly under threat of a huge fine... Is there anyone out there who understands the reams of road and Vat laws which would allow use of mog as is on red doing what it is built for... work. Any help would be greatly received... thanks
