  1. Launched the SS Hampstead Heath today to assist in the removal of a heavily leaning sycamore. The usual managing of people below tree work on pavements is made all the more interesting when they're swimming below .
  2. Trialled an anti 'little person' theft version today, this one adjusts to raise it ever so slightly higher up the stem. Still in development, so may not make production this season. .
  3. Apprentice took out a few Massaria branches from the same tree today, one live one dead. The live one (lhs disc) presented with very odd desiccation. Not at all the typical form (rhs disc) .
  4. Interesting paper Jon, thanks for sharing. Particularly liked the oaks on the top of the tower in Lucca. Wouldn't see that sight in Chicago .

  7. Yes, Helen Read, Ted Green and David Lonsdale were developing the study to see how the work taking place to the veterans at Burnham Beeches, Epping Forest and Windsor could be used to help guide the management of the lapsed pollards in the Basque, and also to see what could be learnt from the basque cutters experience. There's an AA journal paper on the study from 2013 'Restoration of lapsed beech pollards: Evaluation of techniques and guidance for future work' Our team now help out with the management of the pollards at Burnham Fascinating place and trees, an absolute privilage to work on and around them. . .

  17. Hello Hodge The Basque is a very nice part of the world. I had a study trip over in the region about 6 years ago climbing lapsed old beech pollards looking at restoration techniques. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/picture-forum/11489-study-tour-basque-region-trees.html The trees we studied were from four locations in northern Spain, three close to Leitza in the province of Navarra (at Pastain Borda, Urkizu and Areso) and at Oianleku, 25 km to the north-east, within the Aiako Harria Natural Park in the province of Gipuzkoa. I was quite struck with the culture and the scenery. Sadly not had an opportunity to go back yet, but would love to. Met some great locals, some of which were Arbs. I may be able to get some contact details for you. .
