  2. I don't know if Tony did continue the research. .
  3. Some interesting observations and thoughts from Gerrit and Tony around Fistulina in this old thread.... http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/fungi-pictures/28855-fistulina-hepatica.html .
  4. We had the inaugural National Tree Officers Conference in at Telford a few weeks ago. A coming together of the ICF, The London Tree Officers and Municipal Tree Officers Associations. Couple of hundred attended what was a very interesting and useful day. Imagine it will happen again, you should come along next time. Plenty of Consultants attended, thought you may have been there. .
  5. Looks to me like a Gymnopilus species. Maybe G. junonius .
  6. You're welcome mate. Seeing much fungi about on your tree travels this season? Was at an LTOA seminar in Haringey this morning listening to a chap from Copenhagen on how they mange trees with fungi. .

  11. Grifola frondosa associating with this big dead robinia And a few closely associating mycorrhizals sitting on the roots of the birch next to the robinia .
  12. Three years and 23 million quid of restructuring 11 dams on 2 chains of reservoirs has come to an end. Time for the tree protection to come down and the land to recover. Pretty incredible what man can do to the landscape. .
  13. Nice work John, big job. Was a reduction considered to mitigate the risk ? .
  14. yeah got the Gano, but I was thinking that the Perenni was the odd one out as beech more ofetn has Gano more usually associated. Nice find .
  15. A little bit before my time, I did 7 years as a student there from 1985. Don't recall the chestnut, but memories not what it was ! .
  16. The Lirio is still there Gary, don't recall the sweet chestnut, must be long gone When were you there? we may have overlapped .
  17. Grown out beech hedge in an old orchard. A number of these trees have included unions and basal decay issues. The tree below is significantly colonised by Ganoderma australe and delaminated during recent high winds. Impressive union split from higher up the stem when it hit the ground .
  18. Very interesting interpretation Chris. It's not my unqualified place to question the observations of the establishment, (no matter how old those observations are) but with most of these things I continue to find that there are always variables to that which is written in text. Boxing species into annual, perennial, early or late maturity doesn't really allow for flexibility of the needs of a fungal species depending on its environment. This 'annual' specimen obviously found the need to put on another sporocarp later in the year, (or dare I say perhaps the following year) to produce more spore. Fung huh, complex for sure .
  19. New book on the ancient trees of the national trust Book review: Ancient Trees of the National Trust | Ancient Tree Forum .
  20. Woodsmen working on trees depicted in the Bayeux tapestry .
  21. Not sure I agree with the fisti fruiting, we've got plenty of fresh fruitbodies just developing externally on oak and sweet chestnut currently. Very long fruiting season for hepatica this year. .
