  4. If you stand at the root and look down it then it is straight. It is just a banana from every other angle! Great example of what not to look for in walnut but it is the right size for what I need and I am allowed to stain to get the colour so....
  5. Hopefully, below... From these angles it wants to be sawn vertically through, so we would nee to roll it over.

  10. I dug out a tree as I have a customer that wants to use half a tree with some branch and root still attached for a bar top. Access was more difficult than expected so I need to get it cut in half, presumably by an alaskan so we can get each half out of the garden. the main stem is about 500/600mm wide. At the branching point closer to 1000mm. I am thinking that at the root end milling as close as possible and then rolling it 90 degrees and finishing it free-hand might be the only way to get the width cut. (flares out to about 1200mm). About 4m long. Looking for somone to come and mill, I will meet you there with a couple of guys. Cut it and then give us a hand getting it out. Ideally later this week/saturday/early next week. If you know of someone that might be interested but does not use arbtalk then please PM details to me. I can email some photos if that helps. Thanks
  11. For me big is something which can yield a blank of diameter 300mm by 450mm long. .....and be sound enough it is not going to disintergrate and kill someone when turned. I am based in Kent but do buy things from further afield unseen and get them stuck on a pallet down to me if they look good. Thanks,
  12. Well if anyone has any really big burrs then I am interested, if they are not of use to slackbladder. Pm me.
  13. How big? I am planning on buying some very big oak burrs soon. about 80cm by 90cm by 50cm (ish) there will probably be some reasonably large 'off-cuts' of interest or do you want the whole pieces?
  14. I need to find some big walnut, 3.5m+ by 700mm (ish) width boards in 80mm thick. Has anyone ever used Fordaq? They seem to have had members post up boules similar to what I need but it is a lot of money to join. So I thought I would ask if anyone on here has been a member, or knows anyone that has, and what you think. Any advice appreciated,
  15. Hi, I have a board of 3'' AD oak which should be with a customer but it didn't get in the kiln when I originally dropped it off with the people who were going to dry it. The customer is now not amused and I need to get it dry as soon as possible even if it ends up being an expensive way of doing things as otherwise I will lose them permenantly. Does anyone know of a vacuum kiln in the U.K. that would take a 3.7m long by 1.1m wide board? And would consider doing it.... I know of couple and it seems they take 3.5m or are only 800mm wide, so I am struggling. Any help appreciated,
  16. I am looking for a few things at the moment, If anyone has anything that might be of interest or knows where I might find it and is willing to pass it on then please PM me. Green, -looking for walnut over 12'' diameter, can use branchwood for turning so doesn't have to be the main stem although I would rather get both. -Large burrs in general are of interest Air dried, -I have a client that would like a board over 4'' thick in air dried. They want the waney edge on one side once finished. Dimensions 4000mm by 500mm average when finished, one square edge to the one waney edge. I have oak in 4'' AD if I can't find anything thicker. Other timbers an option if available Kiln Dried, - Need some boards with strong 'burr' edges to make some shelves keeping the natural edge. Looking for 5 one meter lengths and a 1.6m length, finished thickness to be 50mm once planed. Thinking of oak but will consider others. Generally interested in any very wide boards in 3''/bookmatched pairs with burr figuring etc. Thanks,
  17. Have you sold the walnut yet?, I am interested if your can PM me a price. Or let me know you have sold it. Thanks,
  18. Hi, I am looking for some big bits of european walnut kiln dried 3.2m+ long and need to be about 2ft wide ideally 75mm maybe 65mm If anyone has some or knows where I might be able to find some then please do PM me. Thanks,
  19. Have you already found a source for this Tommer?
  20. Has anyone got any slabs? Could do with some more............ Thanks
  21. Don't mean anything by it but as I don't mill my own wood I imagine this guy is probably going to get more wood for his money buying direct from one of you guys than me.
  22. How many people are you hoping to seat and then that will give us an idea of size. I expect I'll be more expensive than some of the others as you have come directly to the people milling the wood. It would help if you could give details on whether the table would be natural surface or flattened, we know waney edge but are you still after a fairly straight edge with minimal tapering?, happy with cracks or want as few as possible?, you mention walnut like in colour (very hard to find and extortionately expensive) would you disapprove of staining to get the colour? Do you want someone to supply base and table top or are you thinking of getting a metal base etc. yourself. Should help people suggest boards to you if you can answer some of these.
  23. I don't think you can get any further away than Kent, perhaps cornwall would be further. Sorry.
