1. I am in Ashford, Kent but get about a bit with work or potentially can use a pallet network I think that walnut is going to be too dark for this project, but thankyou
 2. I have a client wanting me to turn some cylinders in an interesting timber for them to use as sidetables etc in a house. Does anyone have any ash/sycamore or something like that which is likely to show some interesting grain? I need to turn 500mm diameter by 300mm tall and 400mm diameter by 460mm tall. If you have more then I would potentially buy for stock etc. I have attached a couple reference images

 5. I have read a US study which found that planing before drying reduced the amount of degrade that occurred. I haven't seen a commercial place do it though, so I guess overall you are better off losing due to the extra degrade and keeping the additional thickness.
 6. Looking into doing this a bit more, I am thinking about doing it in a container rather than a lorry back. -Is there anything that you would do differently in this case? -Given the cost of insulated containers would you insulate it yourself? (100mm Celotex works out around £10 per sqm) -Anything else you would suggest? I am thinking of rails given how painfully large the stuff I have is. - Would anything have to change drastically if I went for 40ft?
 7. I am in Ashford, Kent but as long as you can get it on a pallet then I can get it collected from you. Boxed hearts are fine.
 8. Hi, Does anyone have some ash? I need the following, no wane/sap - 1 piece, 280mm by 220mm by 1200mm - 1 piece, 540mm by 220mm by 1200mm - 2 pieces, 370mm by 220mm by 1200mm Thanks, James
 9. Did you sell this in the end? I know one other who was contacting you about it but neither of us has heard anything. Would be good to know. Thanks

Hi,

I would be interested in the walnut. I have a use for limbs which are over 300mm in diameter.

Do you have a rough idea of dimensions of the first tree?

Have you got an idea of what you are looking for for it?

My email is [email protected]

 12. I read somthing once about a veneer mill burying logs in order to induce spalting. Has anyone ever tried that?

Hi,

I would be interested in your walnut. How much are you looking for? I am in kent so would be looking to get a pallet network to pick it up if you could get them on one.

Many thanks,

 14. I don't know much about this stuff but I thought Borax etc. only stop new wood worm getting in? So the ones inside are free to munch away but no new larva would get in? Someone told me about sticking it in the deep freeze for 3-4 days as the only way to make sure they are dead the whole way through. Were they pulling my leg?
 15. I tend to end up using things like this for turning. I guess my view is that you often havent got much of a clue what you are going to find in these and although milling into boards would be much more profitable if it come off alot of the time it doesn't. If you get it turned then you can tolerate alot more things and it is a quicker sale if you have the customer for it. Would be interested in buying it if you want to sell.

 17. Thanks, I have been contacted by a couple of people who have pointed me in the right direction. Regarding the oak, I tend to be looking for logs of diameter around 120cm now as then I get a number of boards over 85cm in diameter rather than just the couple from narrower logs. I am looking for a solid ash block to use as a turning blank so anything planked would not work for this client.
 18. I have a single stool to make for a client and need a piece of ash (no olive) to yield a turning blank 32cm across (octagonal) by 50cm. I can buy the whole log if necessary. Just want to get the job out the way now so keen to get it asap rather than wait for me to come across something. I am in Kent but regularly around London/sussex/up to Norwich
 19. It'll be definately be next year (probably summer) before I can do that but I will once done. Unless I have a practice on one half whilst the other is drying out...
 20. Photos, sorry they are late. Probably best I let agg221 explain the milling...
