  1. Hello mate,

I use a mk4 '99 single cab hilux for work. The mk4's onwards have turbo's which is what you definitely need with a load & towing. With high sides up I get around 2 cubic metres which isn't a huge amount but still pretty good... the hilux is pretty bullet proof & still has the foot print of a normal car which is why I got it in the 1st place. It's my only vehicle too. 25-30 mpg. 35+ on the newer d4d engines.

The only experience I have of landy's was a 130 single cab at the 1st place I ever worked with removable high sides. That was a pretty wicked truck too but again from I hear less comfy & less mpg's.

I must say I love my hilux & if I won the lottery, I'd still be driving it (along with a few other interesting vehicles).

    Good luck.

  2. Hi all,

I'll be doing a couple of jobs in the 1st week of Nov in Bromley & Mitcham & may need a hand.

I did live in London but have now relocated to Scotland & it's too far to bring the chipper down..

I need to take down 8 or 9 conifers (in 2 seperate jobs) around 25-30ft each & 6 of the stumps need to be ground out too.

I could either hire a chipper & stump grinder while i'm down or i'd rather it went to someone on here instead.

I have somewhere to get rid of the chippings & maybe the logs.

Please feel free to pm me if interested in more details.

    Cheers, Dan.

  3. Hi all,

I'm just in the process of sorting out my insurance & have narrowed it down to Lycetts & ArbInsure.

Lycetts (chap called Daniel Wyld & very very helpful) cover the tree work & equip ok but have a higher excess of £500 for smaller equip.

ArbInsure (lady called Debbie) as above with an excess of £100 for smaller stuff but will also cover me for snow clearance & gritting. Slightly cheaper too.

The problem I have is ArbInsure won't give me a policy wording for the snow work or tree work till I take out the policy. Am I being unreasonable asking to see exactly what I'm covered for before I commit or is this normal & how the industry works?

They say they'll cover me for the snow clearing ok but as they've never been asked they have no details, just that I'm covered...

Any help or previous experience would be much appreciated.

    Dan.

  4. i had a hinge welded on the bottom of the chute on my vermeer. folds over & fits in a garge now without arsing around taking the whole thing on & off.

also makes it a lot easier to throw a tarp over with the loch ness monsters head sticking up in the air!

when i used to store it outside in my old place i had a tarp with rope through the eyelets which i pulled tight to wrap around the bottom of the chipper to stop it flying off.

  5. Hi all,

I was wondering what different weed killers people use for:

    1) actually killing off weeds (ie clearing existing leafy growth)

    2) stopping weed growth (ie for monoblock & stone chippings etc)

Suggestion for over the counter & with spraying ticket varieties & an idea of what to expect to pay would be great.

  6. blowers are no good when theres a breeze, chasing big piles of leaves wouldnt be my ideal day doing carparks:001_tt2:

iv taken the bag off mine and addapted the council look:blushing: 250ltr wheely bin without the wheels. load of small holes drilled into the bin.large hinged door for emptying... makes life so much better:thumbup:

i like the idea... why take the wheels off? i take it you mean you vacuum straight into the wheely bin? If i 've understood you right isn't it easier to wheel the bin around?

  7. Had a new toy on the job- a nail gun, how i ever did fences without one i dont know.

I use a cordless 18v makita impact driver & screw the slats in :D

    takes a while but i don't mind...

I keep hearing about you crazy wild folk with nail guns... :2gunsfiring_v1:

Am i missing out on a whole fun side of life? :dontknow:

  8. A single wire strand ~9" above the picket would provide a visible deterrent wouldn't it, giving you effectively a nearly 4' fence?

electrify it & have some buckets of bbq sauce hanging underneath :001_tt2::001_tt2:

personally i would go for a taller fence say 6 ft. but then if he's the one who has chickens then he should know & should have asked you for that. not moan afterwards & piss you about...
