  1. Hi All, I am a new starter after some advice please. Similar to the thread by Lancstree regarding a Syc, im after some advice regarding pruning a small Beech. Customer wants general reduction to retain natural shape and try and drop it below the wires. Next door there are 2 larger Beeches which have been severely reduced recently by somebody. Cuts look professional, but they have had a heavy reduction. Am I getting a bit close to spring to be performing a crown reduction to a Beech? Was thinking 20% absolute max. The bloke I started with has been going 30 years plus, and he was quite relaxed regarding time of year, but that was just his way. I would really value some other thoughts. Cheers in advance, Adam
  2. I had thought about a rack but I have got a small straight through locker built into the rear body. This keeps the weight of the kit right behind the cab and I dont tend to struggle too much for room as I keep some items in chipper hopper. Have you ever weighed yours and found low GVW but high axle weight?
  3. Hi Guys, I run a recently converted 110 Tipper with a 3500kg GVW. I had it full to the brim yesterday with chip, driver, Labrador and all the kit. and thought id pop it on the weigh bridge to get an idea of where I was regarding legal weight. GVW was 3250kg, so I was happy knowing I had 250KG in reserve. Rear axle was 2260kg, putting me a mere 60kg over the stated maximum. I was reasonably happy with this as it was such a marginal ammount. My question is, in order to level out my weight a bit, would fitting a heavy winch to the front balance things out and give me a bit more over the back? Reason I ask is a bloke a climb for has a 110 tipper with a slighlty shorter body, but a heavy Husky winch and full bull bar on the front. The front sits down when empty. My thought was, if the front is counter balanced I may gain a bit of extra capacity on the rear? I dont know the ins and outs of vehicle chasssis / wheelbase calculations, so would appreciate any views. Cheers, Adam
  4. Hi, I had one done on my 110 last year. Cracking job and no VAT. PM me if you want the guys details. Adam
  5. Hello again, My TW18/125 seems to have developed the feed roller problem described in some earlier posts. Roller stops turning forwards even when green button is pressed. Blue button makes it reverse fine. Only way to chip is to hold green button down which moves roller forward, releasing it stops it when it should continue. Does mine still use the SRB500 relays? If so, where are they on the machine? It has had a new no stress unit a couple of months ago which was purchased from my TW Dealer, Gunn JCB. It was an aftermarket unit as I was told TW no longer stocked no stress units for my machine. Could this have a bearing on what is happening? The no stress function works a treat normally. Many thanks, Adam
  6. Brilliant, thanks for that Richard. I'll try them and see where I get.
  7. Hello, I recently purchased a used TW18-125PH with the petrol Kohler Triad engine. Really pleased with the machine for a budget starter. I came to do an oil and filter change the other day as the snow stopped play. I struggled to remove the oil filter as it had been applied so tightly by the last person to change it. Eventually when it did come free, it took with it the collar which sits hehind the filter where the oil sensor sits and reads oil pressure. This collar is cast and has completely cracked. Do you know where I can get parts for these older Kohler engines? It is a small and simple part but I am unsure of the best place to go as my main dealer took 3 weeks to get parts for this engine previously and I need it back on the road asap. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Adam
  8. 300tdi? The one in the pic is a Td5 Disco 2 which took over from the tdi. Also, it cannot be an N reg as the Td5 came out at T reg. I'd check your history if I were you:001_smile:
  9. I have heard good things about the Rangers, but I wouldn't expect it would be a good base vehicle for a tipper. I would imagine it has a GWV of well under 3.5t and by the time a tipper body is fitted you may struggle for payload. Great for lugging climbing kit and tools with though.
  10. I've sent my log book to DVLA with ammended revenue weight but not had it back yet. What was the script with informing VOSA? Any idea where the forms / telephone number could be found?
  11. Thanks for your advice Sean. Coldrunner, as far as the course goes I got so little done last year that I can't really comment on the quality! The tutors were friendly and always responded quickly by email though. We should keep in touch once we get going and see what happens!! Adam
  12. Hi guys, I am after some advice. I applied to study at Myerscough last year for the RFS Cert Arb Online course. After a few minor dilemmas at home and a new baby, I couldn't keep up past October and fell well behind. I applied to defer my exams to next June and had this accepted. However, I have just logged on to my online account and downloaded all the work and am a bit taken aback by the ammount of work to get through. I am working full time trying to build my business up, and I am a Retained fire fighter. I am doubting whether I can find the time to do all the work required, but I am desperate to learn more and get some recognised theoretical qualification. Anybody else done this online and got any comments / advice on how to wade rhrough it? Thanks, Adam
  13. Thanks for the correction madmatt. I was told by an indipendant LR dealer who sells loads of ex utility company 110s and 130s that the chassis were untouched, and I presumed he knew what he was on about due to the number he sells. Never mind! Thanks for the info though. Does anybody know how to go about approaching the DVLA about uprating, or is it just as simple as sendingthe ammended V5 with a letter explaining the upgrade?
  14. Thats interesting Andy. I wasn't aware the replating process was that simple. I was advised that you needed to use parts which had gained "type approval" which is where SV Tech come in. Apparently, so I was told, DVLA would not accept a modification to change GVW unless this process is followed. I have not got that far yet, so I haven't parted with any money. Do you know how I would go about convincing DVLA that the changes were enough for them to issue a higher GVW? Cheers, Adam
  15. Hello, I am going through this myself at the moment. 1) If you own a 110 with GVW reading 3050kg on the VIN plate, then no matter what springs or double springs you put on it, if pulled by plod and you are over that weight then you are liable for a fine. The plate is as it came out of the factory. 2) Some 110s and all 130s are VIN GVW rated to 3500kg, but the only actual difference is the suspension components. 3) To legally carry between 3050kg and 3500kg you need to "uprate" your vehicle and get the VIN plate and the V5 altered by DVLA. The only company I have found to offer this is SV Tech. See SvTech - Special Vehicle Technology. They will give you the type approved suspension upgrades required for them to issue a new plate. It comes in at around £300 for the relevant, approved Land Rover HD suspension. 4) Only once this is done can you legally carry more weight. Plenty of people kid themselves that a set of bigger springs will do. The vehicles are capable of carrying much more than 3050kg, but legally you are limited to what that plate says, regardless of what springs are fitted. If you are involved in a crash and were weighed, the "it's got bigger spring" argument will not stand up in court. I have found SV Tech very helpful, and I am fitting my new suspension components soon. Once they have seen photographs to show they have been fitted, they will issue a new plate at a cost of £240+ VAT. I was going to just uptrate my springs and hope I didn't get pulled, but after speaking to a copper about it he put me in the picture. Not worth the risk! I hope this helps, I did loads of research into this so I am confident that I've got my facts right. Give me a shout if you need any more info, Cheers, Adam.

    Tw 18/125

Brilliant, thanks for that. I have just been told by my Service dept at Gunn JCB who are my local TW dealer that after blocking it up onTuesday, my No Stress computer could be goosed. They cannot give me an answer whether or not they can fix it ir get a replacement as mine is a 2000 model with the Kohler engine, not the newer Honda. I take it it is still possible to fix / replace parts from a 2000 TW? Hope so!! Adam

    Tw 18/125

Hello, I have recently purchased a used 2000 TW 18/125 but it has no instruction manual with it. I need to do a blade change and some basic maintenance but I have been told that nlades need aligning in a certain way, not just un bolt and re bolting on. Is this the case? If so, could anybody offer any instructions for blade change is it is not a simple on/off? Also could I get an instruction book from anywhere? Cheers, Adam
  18. Thanks for all the advice chaps. Will get it nice and sharp and see what happens.
  19. Hi Chaps. I have just purchased a used Timberwolf 125PH, year 2000 with single hydraulic feed roller. The machine runs well, except I don't think the feed roller is performing as it should. The chipping blades are a bit on the blunt side and need a shapen, which will be done ASAP, but it seems to be struggling to drag wood into the chipping chamber. The roller doesn't seem to grip the timber, and just rubs some pieced unless they are pushed in. I know this is not normal as I have used single feed machines before. Can anybody advise me what the best solution to this is? Will a blade change help, and is it possuble to sharpen the blades on the roller to make it grip the timber better? Also, could the roller retention spring be wearing? Any help would be appreciated. I have booked it into my local TW dealer on Monday for a blade change. Many thanks!
