  1. my mate has 2 Grafters,  one an older 3.0 that would pull a house down and one is the newer 1.9 that really seems to lack the necessary minerals and he hates it when he's out of town with a load on as it dies on hills whereas the old 3.0 romps up the same hills.

    5am this morning,

Awoken by my excited 9 yr old daughter.

The cat was freaking out and meowing solidly.

The four kittens were tied in a bundle by umbilical cords and other "stuff".

Half awake with a pair of nail scissors trying desperately not to trim a leg or tail as this mass of wriggling mewling kittens tries to escape.

15 near wracking minutes later all is calm.

4 happy kittens, 1 happy cat and I'm covered in blood,****, and unidentifiable "stuff".

    Spring is here!

I think that the corona virus disruption will cause a substantial economic downturn, which potentially combined with (worst case) an increase in availability of housing due to mortality in the highest risk groups (70+).

Italy is in lockdown, and I don't think it'll be the only European country to go down that route. England is the most densely populated country in Europe and the potential for transmission is better here than almost anywhere else.

    rub those hands together J!

On the road now just getting some fittings welded onto the rear for safety chains on the chipper, then I can start doing some jobs

really like that,  looks to have good chip capacity as some MOGS appear to have small chip bins.

I checked with SV Tech. It's only the rear axle assembly that's required. It is infact only the internals of the diff, but it's generally cheaper to get a new rear axle. A new one is £800-1000 plus labour, less for a second hand one.

amazed the front diff doesn't need to be swapped out too as i assumed it would suffer from transmission wind up?

If it needs a different rear diff ratio surely it will also need a different front diff ratio too?... Sounds like it could quickly become expensive...

good point,  yep yer into big money there.

Yes for towing the CAT, I bought a smaller machine and van thinking I could do away with 4x4 and Cat, but due to location, snow, driving on forest roads and multiple jobs on the go I need to keep them.

If I could get a 4x4 sprinter that tows 3.5 tons I could sell the Isuzu and `Citroen Relay Van.

might be worth finding out what Diff ratio is required and try the forums / scrap yards etc.

    u in the uk Mark?

  11. if the space is a bit tight and i'm concerned the limb will drop too quickly for me to get the chainsaw out of the way so as to avoid cutting the rigging line the YES i will use a silky to finish the cut as i can withdraw that in a more controlled and swifter manner. It's all to easy to nick ropes with a chainsaw or silky so i do my best in every situation so as to avoid it.

  12. I get quite a few telephone enquiries regarding roadside ash die back and they ask me 'how much is it gonna cost me' to which i reply 'i need to come out and see the job and trees in question'  then i get 'surely you must have some idea?' and i reply 'if you randomly ring up a builder and asked how much will it cost to build a house, without giving them a plan or more information then what kind of an answer would you expect?'

I try and sound light hearted and humorous whilst explaining the situation and they usually chuckle when they realise how clueless they sound over the telephone!
