  1. Very nice - looks extremely professional.
  2. Any wood minus the majority of it's water content equals good firewood. Conversely, Any wood including the majority of it's water content equals poor firewood. Whilst I do appreciate that different timbers have different burning characteristics, I do think that people should stop associating quality with certain species. I'd take a dry load of spruce over a wet load of ash any day of the week. Jonathan

    Large Slabs

Bella Wood can probably offer more dried that I can. Whilst I can cut large boards, I usually try to avoid it. All the large logs I get are whittled down with the chainsaw mills to manageable bits for the bandsaw. Happy to cut to order though if you are stuck. Jonathan
  4. Great cladding material. Have you tried marketing it as such? You could try messaged Cornish Chuff on Arbtalk - he has a mill in Cornwall. If you were closer I'd have taken a load - I've just had to order DF and I'd much rather have had sequoia.
  5. It's been incredibly hot and quite humid for the past 10 days. Many days through the week with highs of 27-29c. I absolutely hate it - makes work nigh on impossible. Bring on winter....
  6. Wrong link. Right link: Sweeney Kincaid Industrial Auctioneering
  7. Love the smell of geraniums. Reminds me of my Grandmother's porch when I was a kid - perhaps he was just feeling nostalgic?

    yew

Not branchwood but very high quality straight stems. I've cut quite a bit of Yew over the years and only ever had one batch that was good enough for bows.
  9. I'm 29, four years no claims, 11 plate Navara and my premium is about £610. It went up a touch this year, as they all have. It's a full commercial policy covering everything, including all drivers fully comp over 25 years of age. That's with Lycetts. Jonathan
  10. £2-4 a hoppus foot, depending on how generous you are feeling. It's not the best quality, but the size is good. Individual volumes: 41.7HF 9.6HF 7.7HF 2.7HF - total 61.7HF So a total of £120-240.
  11. Ours is still on most mornings and nights. When it's 10-12 degrees out (as it has been the last few days) the house soon cools without it.
  12. Looking forward to seeing it in action Marcus!

    heartbroken

Very sorry to hear that Broonie. We came close to losing out collie cross Katie a few months back - I was distraught at just the thought of her not being around.
  14. I'm actually in Ballindalloch tomorrow Andy milling a big elm. Can you PM me your contact details and I'll pop over to have a look at it. All the best, Jonathan
  15. Kiln is loaded and cooking away merrily, but plenty of green stock remaining that can be cut to order. £12-16 a cubic foot depending on grade. About 20 tonnes to choose from.
  16. Come on, there must be someone wanting chopping board stock at bargain bucket prices?!
  17. Worth speaking to Nelson Butler Timber in Horncastle. I'm not sure whether they do softwoods but certainly worth a call: Nelson Butler Timber Jonathan
  18. Haha! I just assumed as someone had posted on it that it must be current.
  19. Hi Chris, Might be worth a punt. Can you post some pictures of it? There is 76 hoppus foot in the stem. All the best, Jonathan
  20. I have heard that the wee ones are quite reasonable. A friend I go with sometimes is quite keen to take one to try, though I've also heard that it's only the smaller fish (2-3lbs, up to 24 inches long) that produce reasonable flesh. What really annoys me in Scotland is the anti pike sentiment that prevails. They get killed because they are perceived to be a threat to Salmon. Pike and Salmon have coexisted for millions of years with no issues. Besides, IMO pike are far more fun!
  21. Very true! I must admit that I am a fairly social fisherman though and like to go with someone. I also put them back for next time too - pike aren't well regarded from a culinary perspective!
  22. All I've got is relatively fresh sawn Steve. Lovely 1.25" oak.
  23. Not one for sea fishing myself, but started pike fishing again last summer after about 15 years hiatus. Really got the bug again in January and I've been addicted since. I've found a stunning 10 acre loch in the Highlands which is chock full of them (though you still sometimes blank) - ringed in reeds, lily beds , weed beds, drop offs and crystal clear water. That combined with another loch of similar size (but very shallow - 3ft max) and I've got some great piking on offer. Had 25 fish so far this year from the equivalent of about 10 days out (some short days - evenings or mornings), biggest 17lb 8oz, average 7lb 5oz. Really looking forward to the next few trips up as the water warms up and the weeds come up. Lure fishing from the boat is going to be stunning. Given the size of the bite marks on some of the smaller fish I've caught, I'm pretty sure that there are pike to at least mid twenties in there. Jonathan
