  1. Dries very quickly Mike. Treat it like a softwood.
  2. Nelson Butler Timber They are pretty local to you and Carl Butler is a good chap to deal with.
  3. Interesting diffent opinions! The Unsinn trailers are apparently well regarded in Germany, used by people in the construction industry routinely. They must be up to scratch, as the Germans don't tolerate poor quality machinery. I'm happy to take the risk, and I'll be ordering it tomorrow.
  4. I have 2 ft (or very close to) wide elm boards, kln dried that I could deliver to (or have someone bring up) Aberdeenshire if that suited.
  5. "Alex Salmond should be made the first minister of Norwich, so he can feel what being ignored by the rest of the country is really like" Outstanding!
  6. More just the luck of coming across the tree and good fortune that nothing broke over the course of the milling. Nice looking Yew - bloody daft size.
  7. Funny thing is that Lehwald Marl don't do drawbar trailers anymore. I looked on their website last September and they were there, and then a few weeks ago they were not. Anyways, I think it's worth spending the extra 200 euros for 29cm extra width. I can't bloody see the 5ft 6" wide Ifor when I'm towing it with the van. So this model looks like the goer: http://www.aluliner.com/Hochlader-offener-Kasten/Anhaenger-Unsinn-HL264321-Hochlader-ArtNr-WEB28::1298.html Scrolling through the photos, the build quality looks fantastic.
  8. I'm VAT registered so it makes no odds.
  9. It's every two years for trailers under 3.5t. No such MOT here. I don't think that there is an import tax on a trailer - European free trade area surely?
  10. Sorry, should have said! I bought my trailer according to my needs 2 years ago but given that I cut a lot more softwood these days, I need something longer. My Uncle in Germany (retired tree surgeon, used to run a company hiring out MEWPS) has recommended Unsinn, saying that a lot of trades use them out there. I'd only discounted it as I was struggling to find a local distributor, but this company will deliver it to a local point on my route for 95 Euros.
  11. Well it's no longer fit for what I need it for - it's too narrow and too short and worth more second hand here than a new one costs in Germany!
  12. This one is probably better, and was recommended to me actually. It's also cheaper: http://www.aluliner.com/Hochlader-offener-Kasten/Anhaenger-Unsinn-HL264318-Hochlader-ArtNr-WEB26::1318.html Why are trailers so damned expensive here?
  13. I'm over to Germany visiting family next month, and going with the van as I have to bring back some furniture. My Ifor trailer is now two years old, has done a fair mileage and is a bit small for my needs. The exchange rate is extremely favourable at the moment and German trailers are by and large better built and cheaper anyway. So I was going to bring one back, and I liked the look of this one due to it's larger wheels (better stability and ground clearance) and the part aluminium construction gives a better payload than the British trailers. It's also comedy cheap (which is to say I have a large choice at this price). Lehwald Anhaenger -Anhänger Verkauf That's only £2139 including VAT (£1798 plus VAT at 19%) once you've added the 100km/h axles and spare wheel. At least a grand cheaper than the Ifor trailer, and less than my second hand Ifor trailer is worth. Opinions?
  14. It just doesn't sound that tempting!
  15. The boards Cornish Chuff has are extremely high quality - first length of the tree was clean and straight grained, the second with some lovely burr (it's sweet chestnut btw). Both lengths will easily give 3ft straight edged boards as the widest was over 4ft 6". Best sweet chestnut I've ever seen in Scotland.
  16. Really look forward to seeing the photos on this thread Andy - great work!

    Dead oak

I wouldn't be inclined to offer much on that stem. Brown rot (often in dead oak) is a right bugger and can render a stem useless. I'd offer to chog up the firewood for them on the basis that you get the main stem for milling.
  18. I can attest to the quality of this sweet chesnut. And the outstanding quality of the sawmilling too!

    My accident

In my thoughts mate. Can't begin to imagine, and hope you have some better days.

    My accident

All the very best for a speedy and as complete as possible recovery. I can't imagine what you and your family are going through at the moment.
  21. Top work chaps! A world away from swinging around dead Elms in Morayshire eh Andy?!
  22. I'm £905 a month all in, but that's an acre of yard, as well as two 60ft open barns and about 400 sq metres of closed barns. It's a lot to shell out each month, but I still could do with more space.
