  1. Unfortunately in today's world of re cycling I am coming across more problems with freshly laid turf because of the amount of Cowboys using re-cycled soil which is basically screened stones and whatever rubbish they can class has soil.

The Turf look great for the first year until the winter and then the problems appear in the Spring .

spot on there mate, took on 4 new care home sites last year, blowing the paths off and the new laid turf came up, underneath was stones, fresh ash branches,an old bath mat and god knows what else, like you say, turf was good for the summer but now looking pretty bad

  2. Good call , always the best option when taking on a new lawn with issues.

since starting the thread ive found out that the lawn with the most issues was a carpark and a thin layer of soil was laid over scalping and then turfed, this was about 3 years ago apparently, fun and games ahead i think !!

  3. By concrete saw you mean a power cutter? if so the Husqvarna K760 12" is a good machine, all parts are readily available at reasonable prices, always remember these machines work in a very dirty dusty enviroment, so if the filters have not been maintained and concrete dust has entered the engine it will quickly take out the cylinder, crank and bearings, avoid the K650, poor spares availability and pricey.

All of that and will probably have been abused big time, allow for av springs etc aswell

  4. Not far off kew gardens then!?! Personally I'd apply a nitrogen feed @ review in a fortnights time but re-seeding will be cheaper than turfing. Got any pictures?

i will get some pics when i am there next:thumbup1:

  5. if id known i was gonna start a row i wouldnt have posted anything lol

i have been in this game 25 years and never seen a lawn (if you can call it that) in such a poor state, i really think i will have to overseed or possibly lay new turf.

    thanks for all the input

  6. Just taken over a contract and the existing maintenance person has been cutting the grass all winter and spring resulting in next to no grass ie length, do i let it grow and hopefully will come back as a half decent lawn or overseed ?

i reckon the grass(whats left of it) is about 10mm and very sparse, really been scalped all winter

what do i do to give it some body for want of a better word ?

    cheers:thumbup:

  7. husky 340, bought it new in 1999, never let me down, originally bought for fencing work,ie ending rails, pointing posts etc , but that saw has cut many tons of firewood, felled and processed, ended and scarfed rails, pointed posts and anything else ive needed it to, goes pretty much everywhere with me, cracking little 40cc saw
