  1. Does Aspen work too?!

wouldnt reccomend using any type of fuel on your skin, but to answer your question, Aspen doesn't contain any solvents (35% in pump fuel) and for this reason is not going to be as good for removing sticky grime such as sap.

I always use fairy liquid and left over coffee granules to get rid of dirt on skin. Works a treat and won't poison you!

  2. Well said josh!

Henderson, its not about being an Eco green hippy, it's about personal health-the exhaust from aspen isn't hazardous to health unlike normal 2stroke mix, it prolongs the saws life, doesn't make you gag when cutting stumps in confined spaces like sides of rocks, houses ect, I don't stink of fumes after a days milling, my work clothes can be in the house and the misses doesn't complain! Some people suffer headaches after prolonged use of petrol mix with hedge cutters for example, not with aspen. It doesn't damage your skin if you spill some on your hand

Some of us wear £200 helmets, £300 trousers £250 boots on the highly unlikely chance of an accident, but guaranteed exposure to harmfull exhaust gasses every single time we start a saw and suddenly a few quid is too expensive

  3. Hi Andy, nice to see you've given it a try. some people notice the difference straight away whilst for others it takes a little longer or even until they go back to normal petrol.

Just got off with Daniel from chipper-tech and he is very interested. He just needs to sort out the insurance and make sure all is in place before getting any product in stock.

    will keep you posted.

  4. woah! lots of questions but il try to answer them all.

    1) recycling the cans - The 5L cans are made out of HDPE and carry the recycling symbol which is the 3 arrow triangle with a number 2 inside. This is the same as plastic milk bottles and as you know these are recyclable. After draining the cans you can take them to your local recycling centre (its probably best if you remove the labeling sleeve as when reading this its easy for the recycling staff to turn you away due to the fact it says petrol on it). alternatively they can be burnt as Garden-kit has already said.

    2) container sizes - a 25L plastic can is available from aspen in sweden, in the UK however it is illegal to supply fuel in any plastic container bigger then 5L. for us to fill the product into metal 25L containers would make the product more expensive then buying it in 5L containers. just a thought, maybe a 50L container would work well for some of you? especially those of you who may need to get the product delivered until you have a local dealer. i could look into pricing if this seems appealing but please send me a PM if you are rather then writing it in this thread.

    3) Availability - yes this is a problem which is always being looked at, we are taking on a new sales guy who will hopefully be able to help us establish new dealers better as he has both owned his own workshop and worked for a large garden machinery store in the south who now sell lots of Aspen even though a few months ago they were very skeptical about taking it on.

its hard to get to see every shop quickly which is why i urge you to help out in with recommendations as it is hard to know which shops are good and which aren't.

Apart from storage issues, the main reason a lot of shops won't stock our products is because they think they will loose out on business in repairs from fuel related problems. This i think says a lot about our product and the mentality of some of the shop owners in this business.

    4) Andy collins - CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

  5. Out of interest= how much aspen can I store at our unit and still be insured- any ideas because if a pallet load went up in flames that would be bad.

Here is an online version of the HSE guidelines for storing fuel.

    http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/priced/hsg51.pdf

as for insurance, it would be best to speak to them directly but if you abide by the HSE rules which are applicable then i couldn't imagine you would have a problem.

when we talk about a pallet we are talking about 54cans of Aspen and as rob said we do have fuel containers still available at a great price.

  6. Ok it seems the nearest dealership to stock Aspen is now 21miles away, so a 42mile round trip for an already expensive product. I called into an ex supplier, who also runs a very large Arb team, and asked why they no longer stock it. The reply is that they had a pallet load on sale, and it just didn't move...it would not sell. I was looking to try it out. Easy to criticise a product without trying it I thought, so give it a go. Ummmm no that's just not going to happen when availability is dwindling, rather than increasing. I dont have the facilities to store a large volume of highly flammable material, and why would I when there is such a facility a couple of miles away at a cheaper price, a service station!! sorry Aspen, but I'm out without getting in.:001_rolleyes:

    Hi Andy,

i have sent you a pm about getting a dealer closer yourself so you can give Aspen a try, so hopefully we can make that happen!

I see what you mean about the service station comment when it comes to availability but you really cant compare normal petrol to Aspen.

Thats a bit like comparing chainsaw trousers brought from a specialist arb shop to a set of regular cheap trousers from your local clothes shop. They are both trousers but i know which set i would want to be using whilst using a chainsaw just to be on the safe side!

  7. Great thread!

This is what we are constantly training to explain to people when they laugh at Aspen being that much more expensive than using regular pump fuel and mixing It themselves with oil.

The average fuel usage per tree worker (excluding milling) is around 3 litres per day. That’s 0.375L per hour. Based on this the difference would only be around 45p per hour more expensive if a company chose to supply their workers with Aspen 2 compared to regular petrol. Add this to the £20+VAT cost per hour of the average worker and suddenly it seems like a much smaller increase in costs.

One of the biggest costs is having workers wasting time and being unproductive. If you have the space for storage, then we can deliver a small sized pallet (270L) of Aspen with free of charge delivery. This means you can quickly pick up the correct amount of fuel at the start of the day and be on your way to the job very quickly, no need to spend time mixing oil with the potential risk of damaging machines.

Warning: users of aspen fuel report effects such as feeling better at work, being less tired and having fewer days off work.

p.s we have just started talks with a politician who thinks they may be able to help get the road fuel duty removed on Aspen which would make it up to 57.95p per litre cheaper! We are very excited about this will keep you posted. :thumbup1:

  8. yeah that's never pleasant!

would the dealership in sandwich be closer? if you would recommend them as a reputable business then please give me their details and I will do my best to get them to stock it for you.

Nearest one to me is ashford. Might have to try some as I never have. Especially after cutting up connie and getting lung fulls of two stroke.

There is a dealership in sandwich kent but they don't stock aspen.

  9. Opening up this offer again!

we have just got our new website up and running Aspen Fuel :: Home so we are really keen to get some of your pictures/stories up on our site.

please send us a picture of yourself/your team in action and a quick explanation of why you choose to use aspen. (might seem obvious, but not to everyone) and in return we will send you a fillpartner in the post.

if you have a website for your business then we will include this on our site which will also help google rate your own website higher. every ones a winner!....

  10. quick update: we now have a new website Aspen Fuel :: Home and the old dealer list has been removed. we now only use the google map dealer locator which should be up to date.

If you get any trouble from your nearest aspen stockist please give us a call or message me directly on here and I will sort out any issues regarding availability etc.

if you are still finding that your local store does not seem to be stocking our products then get in touch as there is no reason why they shouldn't be!

    Axel

  11. Not produced by Aspen but we do have a gas to liquid diesel called EcoPar.

see this link Aspen Fuel :: EcoPar Diesel

Also available as a red diesel for your chippers etc. :thumbup1:

TCD, Thank you for the warning,

I had a notion that VW's 21st century oil film thicknesses might indeed differ from those of Mr. David Brown, who was really so last century:lol:

Mind you, do Anglo American do a diesel Aspen fuel.......cos I could need to start running her on it if available.............based on the amount of knackered turbo/blown exhaust flue gases I am currently imbibing.

    cheers

    Marcus

  12. Hey guys,

A lot has been said in this thread and I will try to answer them as best as i I can.

Firstly lets get one thing clear, Anglo American Oil Company ltd is NOT comparable to the multi million $ companies in the petroleum industry such as EXXON etc. We are in fact a family run business. We don't drive flash cars, our office is based at our home and we work very hard for a living just like you guys. Hope that helps a little with the thought of our profit margins as from some of the comments on this forum it feels as if some of you think we are trying to rob you of your money or we are being greedy...

The price of the products we sell is relative to the admin and distribution costs as well as purchasing costs of the product itself (just like with any product). Aspen is no different in its pricing to any other products you buy in the uk.

Economies of scale do play a part in this and any savings we can make from bulk purchasing will be passed on to the end customer. The biggest drop in price would however be if we could get the road fuel duty removed as this would see an instant drop of 58p per litre. This is where we will need your support. You guys can also make a saving buy buying in bulk, we offer 10% professional discount with free shipping on all orders over 54 cans. This can be ordered through your local dealer and we will send it straight to you.

The great thing about Aspen is that it really does work (as can be seen from the comments of people who use the product on this forum) as well as in the real world throughout europe where it is sold in much bigger volumes and has been so for years.

The benefits of using Aspen over pump fuels are there for you to see and IMO if it costs £5-10 more per user per day to use but makes his/her day more enjoyable due to not having to inhale fumes all day then that should justify the product enough. I mean a lot of people spend that money each day on degrading their health by buying junk food and cigarettes etc.

As for the dealer network, we are working hard on improving it but not all shops are like GardenKit and can understand the product. Many are ignorant or would rather recommend pump fuel to their customers as they don’t want to lose out business in their repair shop due to all of the fuel problems they will get because of it!

When you are ready to make the change or even just give it a try but find that you don’t have an Aspen dealer close to you, just give us a call and recommend your local machinery shop and we will help you by making sure its stocked there for you!

If you have any specific questions regarding Aspen you can always give us a call in the office or send us a personal message on here.

    Our number is 01929 551557

Ask to speak to Anders or Axel we are here to help.

    Have a nice day

    Axel

  13. Sorry if i may have offended anyone, my reply was merely as a joke to his which in all fairness was another sly remark on treequips behalf.

you must understand that it gets annoying after a while when the same people who i assume have never tried aspen before, slate our product so hard in order to stop others from trying.

Its frustrating when on one hand i get people at shows etc telling me how our products make their day at work so much better and then i get on here and constantly get told its too expensive etc...

The thing that made us import aspen in the first place was when we were cutting up a tree for firewood over christmas on my grandmothers land (in sweden). we run out of Aspen 2 and because all the shops were shut we had to resort to using regular unleaded. Thats when we realised how good the product is and from there we started promoting it in the uk. so yes i have used a chainsaw, and yes i know you guys aren't oblivious to health and safety.

the reason i direct people to the aspen dealer finder website (or the "stupid link"?) when they ask for their nearest dealer is it then helps others to find ones nearer to them.

we are here to help, not to force you to use our products, thats your choice but please dont put others of from trying.

  14. sorry we cant help but unfortunately Anglo American Oil Company doesn't cover Ireland. the distributor over there is called liffey distributors. thanks

can you please get your act to gether and get some dealers in NI as i really want to try it for hedge cutting exctra (for 3 years now) but can not buy it any were (though our dealer say its brillent stuff to but he wont stock if for some reasion)

so is there any way of getting hold of it

  15. just out of curiosity can you tell me where nearest stockist is in scotland, aberdeenshire?

After a miserable time using a vibro plate today i may make the switch in my own kit for firewood and hedges.

Edit to add the plate was burning oil like you wouldnt belive from a hire company, definetly not a pleasant job

look on http://www.find-aspen.co.uk for your nearest dealer. if theres not one close enough then let us know and we will do our best to source one for you.

  16. Seems like a good development.

Just curious, how much of a discount can a customer of such size negotiate? Don't really need accurate numbers, just wondered if it was like near 20% or 5%or whatever?

all reputable companies get a set discount on Aspen when they order from us, no matter how big or small (minimum order 54 cans for free postage), we call this the professional price and should also be negotiable with your nearest dealer. unfortunately its not 20% as margins on fuel aren't that great but give us a call in the office for the latest prices.

  17. I can understand the cleaner burn produced from aspen...but I like choice and wouldn't want it to be part of some mandatory requirement if your climbing or ground working for that reason.

Are you campaigning/lobbying to make it a PPE requirement?

    that would be nice :001_tongue:

No, we are not working on making it mandatory but it is nice that a major company has recognised the benefits of Aspen after testing it properly. And hopefully because of this, more employees of similar business' will also benefit from their choice.

Regards to choice, off course that's important but when it comes down to something as important as your health, is that really something that should be considered? For small companies or one man bands it's easy to make the decision or not but for the employees of big companies it's usually very difficult to get improvements like this heard to the man or woman in charge - who coincidentally never has to put up with the emissions behind his or her air conditioned desk...and only looks at saving pennies. That's why this is such a great step in the right direction for a better working environment for you guys.

  18. Anyone working for the company on the forum should be very pleased about this. This is a massive step forward in establishing Aspen as part of a tree climbers PPE in the UK and we hope that this will encourage other professionals to do the same and give their employees the protection they deserve. :thumbup1:

"Anglo American Oil Company (AAOC) is pleased to be supplying Scottish and Southern Electric (SSE) with Aspen fuel for all their tree cutters. SSE is the largest company in the UK to date who have realised the benefits of using Aspen alkylate petrol and have implemented it into their health and safety programme"

click here to read full press release

  19. Is there much difference in price between Aspen and normal fuel & oil mix? :sneaky2:

It works out at about twice the cost, seems expensive when fuel prices are already at an all time high but when you work out your overall costs of running your business for a day i think you will find that its only a very small increase overall.

most users aren't worried about the price once they get used to using Aspen as they notice how much better they feel at work.

machines will also last longer and you dont have to be worried about potential damage to your machines due to poor quality fuel/oil mixtures!

i suggest you give it a try, we wouldn't be in business if it wasn't for the fact that people believed it was worth it! :thumbup1:
