  1. My nearest dealer (15 miles away) ran out of stock on Aspen so I had to revert to pump fuel again.

Result: The headaches have come back and got a snotty burning sensation at the back of my throat.

    cheers, steve

    Sorry to hear that Steve,

We are seeing a big growth in Aspen sales from most of our dealers right now, This shouldnt excuse them from running out but sometimes large stocks can be wiped out very quickly if a professional user comes and buys up a large quantity out of the blue.

I suggest that all of you regular Aspen users call your supplier a few days ahead of collection to reserve stock. We can then get the product to the dealer as quickly as next day if they order before 12 if needed. Following this procedure should mean you dont have to run out again in the future. :thumbup1:

  2. Sounds like a good choice :thumbup1:

Not 100%. All the cans that were on site that particular day have been checked to make sure mix was added and they all looked ok...but that was a few days after the fact.

Remains a mystery, but im not losing sleep over it...its mildly annoying. I've had 6 years use out of that saw, its never missed a beat and has paid for itself several times over. I'm now the proud owner of a 461, and that will be run solely on Aspen from day 1.

  3. Hi Steve,

It should be pretty simple for your dealer to tell the difference between Aspen and pump fuel if there was any left in the tank.

Have you ruled out the potential it could have been neat fuel?

Picked up new 461 today. Seems the seizure of the 460 isn't entirely straight forward. I never run it on Aspen, only use that for my topping saws as I had the 460 prior to starting to use Aspen.

Chainsaw mechanic assumed I was using Aspen in it as the fuel didn't look like it had mix in it. All the combi cans have been checked and they all had mix in. The groundsman who filled my saw up on that day said he definetly didn't use Aspen in it.

Even if he had, i'm not sure it would cause a siezure. Bit of a mystery, hey ho

  4. Hi Mellish,

Sorry to hear about the problems with your saw, had you been using normal pump fuel it would be very easy for your dealer to point the blame on your fuel mix but as you were using Aspen (assuming Aspen 2 with oil (orange can)) This should lead them to look elsewhere.

Allthough Aspen 2 with full range technology oil is the best fuel/oil mix available on the market, it cannot compensate for a faulty machine.

Have faith in Husqvarna, they make great products and their warranty department should take care of you especially if they know it was run on Aspen! It doesn't sound like your dealer has brought the case to them IMO.

Maybe your dealer doesnt know what Aspen is as he is pointing the blame potentially to a fuel mixture problem, it could be worth showing him the manual where it states that it is the reccomended fuel for that saw.

In case you dont have your manual, it can be downloaded here Husqvarna Chainsaws 550 XP®

    Good luck

Went and picked it up. The exhaust manifold is off and I can see scratching on the piston - see photo.

The repair shop think either incorrect fuel or "an air leak" which somehow causes lack of compression and rubbing.

If fuel is such a big issue - and it does indeed seem to be - should not Aspen have a very large use-by-date on the front? I bought the Aspen about six months ago, used it in Oct-Nov, and tried again when I got the machine back in Feb.

  5. Hi Harvey,

If your equipment is in good working order there is no reason it shouldnt run on Aspen. You may need to adjust the low speed mixture screw (slightly richer) slightly and adjust the idle to suit.

going from one fuel to another is not a problem (just dont forget to add your own oil when going back to pump fuel)

I can't vouch for any additives, but if there was a magic additive on the market which gave the same benefits as Aspen then i wouldnt be here writing today!. You have to remember that when you use fuel additives you are adding even more harmful/toxic chemicals to your fuel. A lot of which you will breath in during your working day as unburnt fuel vapour in your machines exhaust emissions.

When run on Aspen, machines emit 99% less hazardous hydrocarbon emissions. This is why so many people around the world (and on arbtalk ) notice great health improvements after making the switch.

  6. Hi there,

    Just to clarify your question.

Are you asking if you should use Aspen 2 alkylate petrol vs Pump fuel mixed with stihl hp oil?

If so, then the advantages of going the Aspen 2 route are as follows

    • 99% cleaner emissions = better for the user, especially if using the machine everyday (search the forum for feedback from people who use it already)
    • Longer lasting machinery, Aspen 2 burns very cleanly leaving virtually no carbon deposits inside the engine. This means longer lasting machinery that works the way it was intended
    • Perfect 50:1 mix of 2 stroke oil = conveniance & class leading protection for your machine
    • Unlike pump fuel mix, Aspen wont deteriorate or go off so you can put your machine away for long periods of time knowing it will start straight away when you come to use it next

advantages for using pump fuel mixed with stihl hp or similer oil

    • lower purchase price

  7. Thanks for sharing!

Its awesome to hear that our product is making a difference to the way in which you feel whilst at work :thumbup1:

Price is always going to be hard to justify but we hope that the benefits outweigh the price compared to pump fuel and from reading your experiences it certainly sounds like it does.

We are putting together a section on our website where profesionals like yourselves can share their experiances. we would love to hear from you and in return we will send you a FREE Aspen t shirt or Aspen beanie :001_cool:

All you have to do is send an email to [email protected] and state you want to leave a review for the website and she will email you back the form to fill in.

for others new to Aspen fuel,

    Remember:

    Aspen Pros:

    • better for users health (99% less toxic emissions)
Better performance and reliability for machines.

    • No fuel related breakdowns

    • 5 year storage life, can leave fuel in machines no problem

    • conveniantly ready mixed so no chance of damaging machinery.

    Aspen Cons: More expensive

    Pump fuel Pros: Cheap

    Pump fuel Cons:

    • Potential long term damage to health??? Benzene and solvents to name the most harmful products

    • Short term health problems such as headaches and sore eyes/throat

    • short shelf life, petrol cannot be left in machines when stored

    • Shorter machine life compared to if only run on Aspen

  9. sign_the_petition_picture.jpg

    Hi all,

We have started to make progress speaking to the right people who will hopefully be able to help in removing the road fuel duty on alkylate petrols

this would currently save 57p per litre on Alkylate fuels like Aspen and stihl motomix.

Obviously this would be amazing for everyone, but we need a little help in signing our petition to really back things up.

If each member off the forum gets 5 of their friends/family to sign then we will be very close to our target off 100,000 signatures.

Help us get the ball rolling.

follow the link and sign the petition, it will only take a minute of your time.

  10. Question for the aspen rep. I run a 2t rotax kart and was wondering if there would be any problems running it on aspen

Hope Eddie doesn't mind me answering this,

Aspen 2 is only suitable for air cooled engines so with your rotax engine you would be better of using aspen 4 mixed with your current oil. you would probably also have to adjust the low speed fueling to get the best performance.

However, Aspen has a much higher MON octane rating of 92 which means it won't technically be legal if competing under MSA regulations...

  11. Also don't forget that if you work from a location which allows you to buy Aspen in bulk then you will be able to get free delivery to your workplace and a discount from rrp when buying 54 cans of Aspen or more at a time.

This may help when it comes to working out the costs as you will probably save time and money by not having to stop at the fuel station constantly to fill up cans of fuel.

Time spent mixing regular fuel with oil and potentially encountering fuel related issues should also be considered. As should the boost in efficiency from staff who aren't having to breath in toxic emissions.

Obviously the latter is harder to weigh up and can only be decided by you after testing using Aspen. Most people don't think they notice the emissions from pump fuel until they have been using Aspen for some time and are forced to use a machine running on pump fuel again...

  12. Great to see that Aspen users are helping others out but to clear things up a little and to avoid confusion please read the following notes i have made about switching to aspen,

Aspen fuel will never damage your machines!

If your machine runs poorly after switching to Aspen and a simple re-tune doesn't fix this then fault will most likely be with a problem caused by previously running pump fuel.(usually adjusting the low speed mixture about a 1/4 of a turn to make it richer does the trick)

Worst case scenario in order get a pump fuel damaged machine running on aspen is the following:

    • Overhaul the carburetor - cleaning metal parts and replacing gaskets/rubber parts
    • Change fuel lines
    • (rarely) replace petrol tank lid or other plastic/rubber seals that could have come in contact with regular fuel and have become damaged.

Once these easy (and inexpensive) steps have been followed you will have a machine which runs happily on aspen, and you will be able to benefit from having a machine which runs better and doesn't emit anywhere near the amount of toxic emissions into the air that you breath whilst working.

Most saws wont have these problems and will happily accept the change to aspen without any issues (as gardenkit has nicely pointed out), the reasons some saws have issues when others don't is a little bit of a mystery but it seems to come down to the following reasons

    • Poorer quality parts used in machine
    • the machine has been subject to a higher volume of pump fuel
    • model of carburetor, the carb on the ms200t is especially prone from experience

To avoid the guesswork of finding out whether your machine will work on aspen or not straight away then i suggest you start using aspen a) when you get a new machine or b) switch after your next service and get your Aspen dealer to service the carburetor and fuel lines and at the same time make sure its dialed in to run spot on with aspen.

please note that Aspen cant cure underlying problems such as worn piston rings, leaking head or crankcase gaskets, worn crank etc.

Unfortunately not all Garden Machinery dealers are like Garden Kit and understand Aspen as good as Barry does, Hence why some dealers will give wrong advice due to the fact they don't understand the product. If you encounter this, please drop me a message or better yet tell them to give us a call so that we can explain it to them.

A lot of dealers wont stock Aspen or recommend it to their customers because they believe that by recommending it they will lose business from servicing due to the fact people wont get the mix wrong or encounter stale fuel issues! talk about customer service!

If anyone has any concerns in running aspen please give us a call in the office on 01929 551557 or give Eddie a call on 07568 108953.

    /Axel

  13. Hi Rob,

Which dealer have you been dealing with? if you are having issues with them, please send me a pm and i will try my best to help!

Any dealer can arrange aspen to be delivered to you, costs are £20 + VAT on any order under 54 cans or free of charge delivery on 54 or more.

    Best regards

    Axel

  14. Thanks so much people. Already went out and tried it. No problems.. :) spluttered a little at first but no biggy. They definitely need to improve on the can though, as no matter what angle it's poured at it seems to drip a little

This is the ideal solution and is available from all Aspen dealers, either in stock or to order Aspen Fuel :: Aspen Fill Partner

otherwise I suggest pouring with the can horizontal and using a funnel when possible :thumbup1:

  15. Have you let your employer know you feel this way and that there is a simple solution which would make your job much more enjoyable?

wish my work would try aspen, last two days doing hedges (goes for 2 months but been on other jobs) and all i can say is stinking horrible hedge cutters on normal two stroke mix.

oldest machine was new in 2012 and other new this year so not an old wreck, yukk and more yukk.

  16. Just waiting to double check that I have the latest spec of the Aspen Oil on my computer before I put it up. In the mean time I can assure you that it is off the highest quality and Aspen are constantly looking at how they can improve it. In fact we are about to receive an update which will make the product even better.

I don't think this is "thread jacking" it's fact that Aspen 2 is better than any other 2 stroke oil mixed with pump fuel for both the machine and the user. It's to the best interest of every operator of 2 stroke machines to know the benefits. If they choose to except the benefits over the cost compared to pump fuel then that is up to the them.

It is also important to know that Whilst our oils are of the highest quality, what really makes aspen unique in regards to machine protection (which this thread is about) is the fact that you are getting a perfect 50:1 mix every time and it is also blended with alkylate petrol rather than regular pump fuel. This means that no matter how long you have left your fuel, you can rest assured its going to give optimum performance/protection for your engine. Something you can never be assured with if you use pump fuels even mixed with the most expensive/top quality 2 stroke oil.
