  1. Ah yeah never thought of that! Well that was what I was wondering when I was looking at the job at first! But I decided in the end to do the job for the timber. This was better as well due to it being a national trust site as the amount they would pay would be nothing compared to the value of the timber! But for you really I would say just work out the cost for you overall and then add profit it's the most simple way! Haha cheers mate it's working an absolute dream! Some more pics of today's work We have pretty cleared our first section of woodland which has been an eye opener as its taking a little longer than expected but that is due to more volume of timber than expected! 2. Well today was the first time of trying it we were covering about 20meters today tomorrow it will be a longer pull! Either 8 foot lengths 4 at a time might try more tomorrow. Or 1 or 2 trees at a time way more productive pulling out whole as you can probably get an average of 6-8 lengths from a whole tree! I have a lift line that extends out to the timber and have a mechanical advantage system to lift the butt off the ground. Urmm today we probably got out 10 tonne with 2 people. But we will get quicker just had some communication problems due to noisy land rove engine:P so gonna use radios tomorrow! Haha that what my groundy said to me and then said it wouldn't work and now loves it:D Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  6. Yeah it is great really enjoying it!! And despite the fact we don't really have any heavy machinery it's great find ways round it! We are using a land rover on the pull line as I don't have a winch:/ it's working well!! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  7. So it all started out with a family member who was on a cs38 course talking to the warden at a local national trust property, he was in need of a contractor to fell a section of woodland in a woodlands scheme to create a coppice. When heard about this I jumped at the chance an within the day contacted the warden and within the week visited the site and secured the contract! And today we started the job, so here's a photo diary of what we are doing. The site The trees compromise of ash, silver birch and sycamore mainly. I have set up a skyline allowing us to haul all of the timber to a loading area where we sned up and cut to length. We are able to haul 3 or 4 logs at a time cutting out a lot of back braking and time!! At the end of today we have hauled a reasonable amount that will be being trailered off to a pick up site for a lorry! Also does anyone know if this is a burr and is it worth anything to anyone if it is? More photos to come as project progresses:)

  10. No probs you can also modify the bulkhead to flatten it out at the point where it goes vertical! But bit of a job:/
  11. There's the bulkhead removal bar loads of companies sell them. And there's seat risers which extend the amount of movement on the runners if I remember correctly and they are sold by mudstuff

  19. An interesting one from yesterday an oak pollard, the customer wanted a re pollard and we recommended that no work on the tree was needed and so we came to a compromise of a lift and reduction.
