  1. hmmmm "Wet Wood" well I left this post right open for that one!!
  2. Well we have had "what is the best wood", so what do you regard as the worst wood you have tried to burn! I think my worst effort has been Alder, I find it only burns when my log burner is really glowing red!
  3. Ash & Elm Burned a load of elm this winter great wood. I have small supply of ash it burns really good, got myself a huge tree to cut but its going to be a bugger to get it from where it is, its definitely going to be worth it.
  4. I have split a load with a Roughneck Diamond Wood / Log Grenade Splitting Wedge, they are a wonder, never failed to split anything I have had. Cost me £10, some on eBay at £6.19 and £3.99 delivery (they are really heavy)! Your local chainsaw shop should sell them.
  5. I am looking for dried firewood in S. Wales, I can pick it up if needed, looking for a about a ton.
  6. Had its first 'outing' today! snowa and all, I have had this saw a few months now but the rain has stopped me using it. Well fired it up today to cut some dead (standing) elm, it was really impressive, left the ols 262xp at home, I'm glad I decided on this saw, could not justify the 346xp, and I'm really please with how it performed today.
  7. I only ever use a maul! in fact a Ray Mears (Gränsfors Bruks AB) - Splitting Maul one, its A1 and a gem to use, I also use a splitting wedge (or bomb) as they call the about £10, these are great on the hardest twisted buggers, this has never failed to split them.
  8. I'm sitting in front of my Stovax Stove and I'm burning Elm, OK it was well dead when felled it few weeks back, but it burns great and hot. There's a few more to come down so its a happy and warm Christmas for me!
  9. When they ship new saws without the bar on there are two plastic spacers that need to be removed, they are fitted so the chain break etc. sit right as if a bar is fitted!! This one threw me for a while.
  10. I have the Rancher 460, had it for a good price £330 with an 18" bar (6 weeks ago), plenty of power for what I need, I cut a couple of tonne of logs each year. It depends on what you are going to use it for.
  11. I shoot the 'greys' on a particular farms as the farmer and landowner plant fruit trees and hardwood trees, the damage they cause is incredible, I do it for the fun of it! Must have had 150 from there (mainly shotgun). I have also shot 20 out of a beech tree on the edge of my garden (.22 air rifle). Don't get paid, the adrenalin rush is almost as good as a pint of real ale!
