Fixed mount grab is one that utilises a head bracket on the top of the rotator, usually picked up by the quick hitch, so the Bucket Ram comes into play when moving material. Swinging grab, is hung via a link as in most Forestry cranes, and is free to swing, and the Bucket Ram has no influence. A Grapple isn’t a grab in these terms, that utilises the bucket ram for opening and closing, not an auxiliary circuit. Eddie.

That size of machine, go with a grab, then get TMK to Demo the Shear whilst you have the machine. From nothing to a 3 tonner and fixed mount grab is going to move things up a gear or two. Eddie.

I’d go with an Intermercato TG16 Pro SR5, with rotator. Have the 6 way valve fitted which will allow it to be used from a single circuit, as still many hire companies won’t take machines with two auxiliary circuits. To activate the valve you just need a 12v supply and switch. Some just disconnect the horn and use this as it’s already on the levers, but could lead to trouble come an accident. Otherwise rig your own foot pedal and power lead that goes in the power socket to power it. Foot pedals are dirt cheap and makes for easy operation. Just some cable ties on the power lead up the boom and down the dipper to the 6 way valve will do the trick. With this setup you’re good to go with Hired machines and have a sought after item for resale, or keep it for the inevitable machine purchase you know will come after! As for a Shear, TMK200, good Shears, and spec it with the bigger cylinder that requires less pressure, so virtually anything will power it. Auxiliary line pressure is the main cause of poor shear performance, and is something many never get checked or optimised. Again no issues moving TMK 200’s on. Plenty out there, worth a punt on Arbtrader for Grab/Shear to Hire, maybe even a full setup could be available? Eddie.

Old Harvesting Head or Grapple Saw is just a Chainsaw you don’t have to hold! Dangle it from the crane, it’s dangle mounted on the Harvester anyway and simply power up the Grab and Saw function which will work underwater. A Shear would obviously do it, but you’d not be looking at off the shelf stuff. Eddie.
-
You need an old Harvesting Head dangled from a crane in the felling position with the saw underneath, and power it remotely. Just position it, it'll grip and and cut, with the feed rate adjustable to slow it down for the material. You could make up a small grapple saw to do exactly the same. Salt water and my kit, no way!!! Eddie.

Be a fair jump up in the budget to get s 219. I dislike them just for the distance between the blade and the tracks, it’s ridiculous. Eddie.
-
You’ve already hit the magic numbers required to get you into a Takeuchi TB016. There’s plenty of other offerings out there, but with a decent reach, plenty of power, expanding tracks, brilliant reliability and ability to shrug off what the average utility lads paid by the metre can throw at them! They cost that bit more for a reason, but hold their money like no others. I’ve known people run them years and still make a profit selling on. Plenty out there, best of luck, you’ll not regret it. Eddie.
-
Absolutely, just open to absolute abuse if it’s available anywhere, the cost difference would make it a real winner for an Ag guy doing some Plant on the side, by the time he’s carted it to site behind a Tractor and done a few shifts, a serious saving to be had. Can’t see Farmers wanting to give it up easy and I’d expect some yellow vests will be protesting if they get penalised and Farmers don’t. Eddie.

Looking like a ban on Red Diesel for Construction and a raft of other things including Artic Fridge Trailers is on the cards. Typically not Tractors or Combines, which will lead to the inevitable running bent everywhere. If it’s going get it gone and have done with it, no concessions and everyone knows where they stand. Be horrendous amounts of money in big machine tanks over the weekend!? Eddie.
-
Anyone clocked the Red Diesel bit! That's going to cause some headaches with kit and tanks all around the place full of white! Eddie.

Not hard to get a 50% reduction in noise when decibels double every 3. If it was already 96dB it only needs to be 93dB to be 50% reduction! Most just commented “it must have been noisy before”. To be fair it was a nice cab and any progress is welcome for guys who have to spend long shifts on them. I doubt the average stock farmer will care much. Eddie.
-
Same could be said for guys passing off non compliant kit as the same. I just concentrate on my own thing. Eddie.

Green flashing light is to show the Operator is wearing his seat belt. If the Client wants Highway Maintenance on the back, that's what it'll have to have, you either comply with the compliance in the sort of applications these guys work in, or you get the low loader and gone! You now can easily spend 30k extra above the initial purchase price on a larger Excavator to ensure it's fully compliant, yet nobody looks into the Operators actual experience or will spend a few minutes drilling into guys the need to get the Operators attention and the machine stopped before you pass. Eddie.

Had a brilliant day at LAMMA show yesterday. It’s been very contentious the move to the NEC by all accounts and some of the big boys didn’t take stands at the new venue. It got a massive thumbs up from me, no traffic hassle getting in or out, parked straight up on tarmac, great facilities, no hyper inflated food prices, and enjoyed walking around in the warm in normal clothes, not dressed for the Arctic! The place was absolutely buzzing and I think the big boys may have just made the wrong call. All sorts of kit about, plenty of Tree Shears dotted about, Molson brought along a lovely Two Piece Boom Kobelco 8 tonner, JCB had a tidy new generation of Loadall out, claiming a 50% reduction in cab noise that I’d think simply impossible? Some unreal big kit, Tractors and Harvesters that are just a house with 4 wheels! No way is current road legislation up to date for some of this stuff, they make Trucks look like toys! Some great smaller stands as ever, found a remote trailer reversing light kit readily available that’s been discussed on here. Hope all that exhibited had their efforts well rewarded. Eddie.

You’d be surprised by the hoses, I had a similar setup on my Extension beam and most Harvesters are like this, not anticipating any real issues with them. You simply can’t have them inside and get the flow for the bigger attachments. Yes a bit of thought required before venturing too far off the hard, but always throw a few bog mats about easy with it for the odd bit here and there. Needs a TMK400 Shear sorting out for it now to make it some roadside weapon. Eddie.

That’ll never be obsolete, nothing more important than the Banksman/Cutter working with me, simply can’t do it without them. Don’t like making them work hard though.? If you want some unashamed porn, here’s basically the same setup and attachments that’ll be available shortly in action. Power and Versatility.? Eddie.

Reach with this configuration is about the same as the Liebherr with say the Hans Habbig setup under the Engcon. The Liebherr has another 6 metres extra over this with the Extension. The Liebherr would obviously throw this Sennebogen over the nearest hedge in terms of power, but it’s all horses for courses and this is giving away about 12 tonne to the Liebherr. That Block is on a bracket, it’s all setup a bit like a Harvester simply to get as much flow as possible down to the end. This has a Fixed Tooth Mulcher, a Stump Grinder, and a beast of a Rotary Cutter Head, all very power Hungry. Yes it can! All done very cleverly by Vosch to be able to fold her up and off down the road! That’s part of the game changer bit, the ability to unload in easier access places and await being called into road/lane closures. Do the job and out again in quick time. Cab goes up unreal high, nosebleed stuff and tilts back a ridiculous way too. Fantastic vision, and the latest 360 camera I specced is on another level. I’d be crazy not to be looking forward to getting it all shaken down and the creases ironed out. Be some good discounts for the first hirers who are prepared to work with me to allow a bit of setup time here and there, and will get the full raft of attachments at their disposal thrown in. Good to go! 360 and Rear View. Eddie.

Finally a bit of good progress on the Sennebogen and got to have a bit of a shakedown of some of the mods I requested today. She’s operating great now and a few more tweaks should be perfect. I was genuinely impressed. Some great details being done to my spec by Molson who have a guy who’s absolutely meticulous at such work. How’s that for a nice non marking blade setup. Shameless plug, but it’s time to get in touch if you’re interested in getting this out on your projects. Eddie.

Got me looking, I’ve never signed up for one of them stealth ID Card licences, so old paper job for me! A quick look I can’t find me having the 107 restriction, so looks like I could be good to take full advantage? Eddie.

Nice Kubota Kx161 LGP I did a little bit on before Xmas. Always rated them, bombproof machine and still putting in a great shift. First time I’ve used a Scandinavian Profile Tilt Bucket and I must say I was very impressed. This is a Hardlife version, I can get hold of some absolutely top quality Swedish ones from EMA now. Not a Tiltrotator, but closer than you’d think real world, really helped the job along, which was a bit of a nightmare, but love a challenge. Just installing some concrete panels to form this crossing/drinker so it can be fenced with water gates. Eddie.

Must be some mileage in this fifth wheel trailer job for some? Be nice with the odd attachment up in the neck and puts you in some full fat machines legally. https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fifth-Wheel-Mini-Artic-Gooseneck-Trailer-6m-Bed-Up-to-5300KG-Gross-Weight-on-B-E/112870394526?ul_ref=https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5575202480&campid=5337937706&toolid=10039&customid=t%3Aad-u%3A18968&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fitm%2F112870394526&srcrot=710-53481-19255-0&rvr_id=1807524469652&rvr_ts=1dc5d6c41680ab6053d791e0ffc46d94&_mwBanner=1&_rdt=1&ul_noapp=true&pageci=3efa804b-e610-4908-8f89-786f55e2cffd&epid=2083339350 Eddie.

I know a few Owner Ops who do the 7.5 tonner and beavertail route with success. This would require a bit of thought as to the right body if you needed a few attachments with you. No doubt some would Ifor it or the dawn/dusk Tractor run. Eddie.

7.5 tonner? Eddie.
