    Poplar

I have had about 20 tonnes of beech recently and, we are really sad to see the last of it. It was easy to process and burnt well. This seems to crop up alot on this forum. All these wood preferences..... I understand when you are making things...chairs, tool handles, treen and on and on. But for firewood, it just has to be dry. Sure, some might burn quicker than others, but not so as you'll get annoyed. My house runs on wood - hot water and rads - so I don't think I can afford to be that picky. So, if you have a large pile of beech or any other 'unsuitable' firewood, I will happily take it off your hands...

  17. we use them at the start of the fire. They give a flame and are great to start the fire off. But as county says, there is alot of ash.
  18. Poplar is used to make the body for a shave horse. you could check with some of the many people that run green wood work courses - there is bound to be one near you. If you can find someone who wants it for that it'll be worth more than firewood..... I know of such a person in the west country. I will ask him when he returns from his hols.....

  22. which splitter are talking of for £1200? I know this is an ubiquitous question on this forum.... The old "which splitter" so I apologise to those about to reach for the expletive deletive buttons, in advance. Lovely and sunny today tho' Phatty.
  23. So.... I have been working for a guy who owns a 45 acre woodland. We have done much felling and as result, we are going to chop it up and sell it. There is alot so we need a machine. The dilemma is that we have only £4,000. So should we go for big powerful splitter or second hand processor? Basically, I need advice on how to best spend this money. Thanks in advance for any replies, Phatty
  24. ....and clearly a clean arse.......
  25. This forum is full them. Many of the guys on this forum spend most of their time slagging off their customers and moaning about how ignorant they are. Ho Hum. Identifying Ash..... If you are near Bristol, I will take you to the cherry wood project, where we coppice and do green wood work, all in a friendly way. if you fancy it.....pm me. Once you have different bits of wood next to each other, you start spotting the differences. Eventually you will be able to tell by smell....(elm smells a bit like pooh/sick - oh yes). Don't worry about the ignorant fools, there are plenty of genuine people pleased to help.
