  1. I like it, doesn't look much thicker either, just some raised padded areas where they need to be eh?
  2. Jared Abrojena uses a RIG set-up for SRT while working, he seems to like it too. I have never used one, it looks pretty cool though, but I'm thinking it might be a bit bulky getting thru tight unions like we encounter in trees. the RW is better there I think, especially when the new smaller , sleeker, ZK-2.0 hits the market this year hopefully?
  3. you quit melting them in lava and they would last longer eh man?
  4. To add to what Drew said, once you have a bit of weight under you, with either a chest harness-rig, or the lanyard over the shoulder (or "LOTS" as I'll coin it right here and now ) be able climb the tree or pull hand over hand and the rig will self-tail like a champ. I too pondered the dilemma of doing short move while on the wrench, and like Drew stated; try to plan the climb so you won't do that too much. It is a lot of fun to look at the tree or pics, work out a plan and see it executed perfectly. Remember, you are not bound by the friction-laws that rule DRT, so weaving redirects is easy, faster and more efficient. I can pull hand over hand with my RW rig tied to me either LOTS or via a chest harness for jaunt of up to say 10 feet straight up, more, say 20 feet or so if I can put my feet on limbs or the tree it is a lot of fun after you get the hang of it, and I too have all kinds of DRT F-savers sitting in my shop, sadly hanging now
  5. You can look, but none is better than the TM, period. I was a naysayer until I got one, had to eat my words on that one
  6. nice pics Reg, do you find that having the tether connected directly to your bridge ring inhibits your later movement? It seems like it might when trying to limbwalk?
  7. it need to engage right away...the hitch should be immediate. it only drops down when you want to move.
  8. I find that I like a VT 3 wraps, 3 braids, with 4 wraps, it binds sometimes too 8mm OP green tied to length with a dbl fisherman's works best for me. you'll only be able to move the wrench up as far as you bridge allows while on the pantin since it has pulled all the slack out.
  9. great time night climbing:001_smile: and the bourbon was from my son and his GF
  10. bottle of 4 roses small batch bourbon , arborwear ascender pants, arborwear original pants in the new maple colour, arborwear beanie, arborwear woodiebrook vest , smartwool socks.
  11. same to you all from Ontario, Canada cheers !
  12. Good stuff Reg DdRT is only used in our industry, every other vertical access field uses SRT. DdRT works, but it has been the only game in town due to the equipment manufacturers and the friction saver-industry. originally, it was meant to save the cambium, it still does, but the advent of pulley-systems on F-savers is really to make it easier. DRT, by nature is the least efficient method of ascending and working. the very act of the 2:1 ratio compared to the 1:1 of SRT is tiring over time. there is NO way I'll go back to DRT, especially since i specialize in tight access work, where lots of times I have to ascend 70-90' to remove 3-5 dead limbs in 5-6 different trees. the Rope Wrench has made my job easier, less complicated and safer. I used to ascend SRT via frog-walker, switch to DdRT, then come down on my eight to alleviate hitch-burn. with the RW, I can go up, stopping to work as needed, then come down on the same rig, the RW takes 1/2, if not more of the friction from the hitch making the descent smooth and the cordage last a lot longer I have a DMM thimble on my tether, it makes clipping in and out for ascending easier. You can also clip the lanyard over the shoulder for shorter ascents and moving in the canopy, IE: climbing the tree. with enough rope weight below, as along as the wrench is clipped either to the lanyard or a chest harness, it will self tend as you move, much like DRT, only way faster since you are moving 1:1. I use it for everything now, small trees, big trees, deadwoods, prunes, cabling, big removals etc.
  13. after spending 7 hours plus in a few trees, your body will forever be grateful to you for spending he bucks man...get the TreeMotion I have had most of them, none compare.
  14. they are just climbing treestands that we use over here for bowhunting, have been on the market for years I used to have 3 of them, aluminum, they were good for hunting public land where you might not want to leave the stand out there for extended periods. Sold them though, too much work finding just the 'right" tree to use them on without limbs, by the time you got high enough to avoid detection, the shot angle was way too high
  15. just had my Weaver cougar altered to fit now that I'm more fit when I got it 3 yrs ago I thought it was the most comfy thing there was....well it sucks. Nothing near my Treemotion
  16. I agree, the Treemotion is by far the best, once you get it set, it is about as close to perfect as saddles get. 6 hours in a Manitoba maple today and I feel good never was uncomfortable at all.
  17. Pat is gonna be busy;)..lol, I"m getting one too
  18. oh yeah dude, you can so... even smoother than DRT, the tether should be about 11" pulled flat, before you girth it.
  19. you have to have to long a tether for this, I tried it tonight
  20. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msCQelZNEOY]Ascending on the rope wrench ZK 1 - YouTube[/ame], this is how you ascend fast
  21. Here is another pic Steve of me using the rope wrench choked with a running bowline on the way up:001_smile: It is above my lanyard so I can hang off it and rest my feet once in awhile while my groundy moves limbs below. The running bowline is the way Kevin B. works a spar SRT with the RW as well, and he invented the RW, so he must have tried a few other ways first
  22. I choke it off with a running bowline under my lanyard, works great, then just use your tail or a tagline to clip into the loop and pull it down after hitting the deck. I see the pic shows it over my lanyard, but it is under it most of the time
  23. A lot of guys use a static line like Sterling, snakebite or KM 111 when SRT climbing via the rope wrench. I use KM111 and it works perfectly, just the right amount of give to facilitate smooth climbing some ropes that are good for DdRT could tend to be too bouncy for the rope wrench. KM111 is 11mm and works very well for me while climbing with the RW. but weight and style of climbing will determine the best rope.
  24. yep, and it allows you to ascend, climb and position just like DdRT
