The lower D's on the TreeAustria 2, the Treemotion and I think the Sequoia are rated for life support, so you can hang from them if you so wish.
-
I see thanks. So you are just a climber and a waste removal service essentially.

Could someone clarify the diference between hire and contract lift please? Havent heard these terms before.

I havent used the grigri, but the grigri 2 is no good as a lanyard adjuster, as its made for lead climbing the cam is held open by a spring, meaning is dosnt lock until it takes a considerable load, so in a lanyard configuration it opens if you release the tension, as opposed to the cinch which is not used for lead climbing, only top roping, meaning it stays closed on the rope if tension is released.

Hello there, I'm getting on really well with it I'm running 9mm threw it and it still doesn't slip. I find I use the lever a alot to release myself iv also used it single line as a supplementary and it's works a treat. I'm thinking of using a cut away to attach it to my krab so it has more freedom to rotate as iv found it sometimes rotates upside down on the krab.
We shouldnt really be using anything smaller than 10mm cord in this application, in a work situation of course.

Has anyone made a footlock strop out of Ice Tail, using a big eye one one end for the klemheist, or whatever you use, and a tight eye on the other end for harness attachment? So inbetween the splices its just a single line? I made one up using locking brummels, but is this acceptable?

Hey Edd, hows the trip home going? Another Tree tamer here!

Hello,
I havent ever used one so cheers for the advice on what to look out for, i got the bigger drum too to increase speed...... Why didnt the cone seem to work well?
I really appreciate your advice as like i said i havent used one, also have you ever used it as a skyline-dragline setup??
Ian
The cone does work well, if you can get all the butts of the brush in to it. I find that after stacking a big enough pile to make it worth winching, that until the winch has pulled the chains tight you cant get the butts in the cone, and on timber it can only go up to the size of the cone. OK if you are doing skinny stuff. It also is prone to being pulled of the side of the log if you are trying to turn it at the same time. Havent tried the larger drum. Hope it dosnt decrease the power too much. Havent tried it in a skyline setup, although I would like too as I think it would work well.

If its the same as ours, its a ton pull. Pretty good, be carefull of the wear plate beside the capstan, it will wear pretty quick if doing alot of long pulls, and can get very sharp and will cut ropes easy.
I find the nose cone more hassle than its worth.
My other tip is get as much lift as you can, the other tree mount is good for this, as the rope can be directed up the anchor tree, through a block and down to the load. Removes alot of the friction in the drag.
Good luck, it can get tedious waiting for it.

unrealistic, its this sort of thing that gives college leavers the impression that they should be earning big bucks
I agree! Even the low end of these figure's is optimistic.

Already here, have called all the companies in the Christchurch/ Canterbury phonebook. Just hoping someone out here had any info really.

Still looking, really trying for the South Island. Treetech are a no go as of yet. I have managed to get some stuff for a small outfit in Chch, but its not enough and the gang are very inexperienced, with little kit. So hoping for something better.

Thanks guys, great info. CraigD, I have sent you a PM.

How does this compare in the hand to other 11mm ropes? Such as Blaze and Velocity?

These splices look great and what a skill to have. Anyone know of any courses available in Scotland or North of England ?
Me too.

My favourite technique for this situation is to use the tail of my line with an assesory carabiner on the lowering rope, just flick it through a convenient crotch close by, this means you are seperate from the movement of the cut piece, but should something go wrong, the crab is weak enough to fail. Although running it through a carritool on your belt is slightly more convenient.
