  1. Excellence Steve and it was very easy to set up an add. I will do another with the first sale I make!
  2. Help understand your point of view.
  3. I ring the tree a month or two in advance. Even a week or two may be sufficient to accomplish this. Removal of cambium layer and potentially a few mm of wood, would not increase hazard potential much at all. Water will not be translocated into the crown with any effeciency and leaves ,twigs and branches that hold the greatest amount of water will way less. I experienced this two years ago with Imminently hazard rated Norway Maple The main wood was lighter and the limb wood rigging and climbing I performed proved the technique viable for weight reduction thus safer removal. This same practice is applied to Invasive Non-Native species like Rhamnus cathartica here in Canada. Ringing the tree depletes the tree of water and stored energy and repeat or ctg and suckering is avoided. Many situations this technique may not be an option but we all like options and here is one for your future consideration when you encounter something high risk and with out a mewps/crane options. I turn 43 this year and handling heavy wet wood for another year after 20 years has taken its toll. If I started practicing this long ago, I am sure my shoulder and elbow would be in far better shape. One of the draw backs is wt wood flexes, chips and cuts more easily. You win some you lose some.
  4. This may also avoid the public coming to complain about the removal because the tree will look past due. People generally do not see the removal of hazard tree as necessary but a dead tree can not be argued. Avoiding confrontation!
  5. Stem trace or Girdle limbs, leaders or root flare. Helps to reduce the water weight in the tree prior to their removal. Similar effect to removal during a drought vs wet season. What do you think? How much water weight can be avoided? Any one have a percent dry and dead opposed to wet and alive? 20-30-40%?
  6. Nylons got a hell of a recoil when it snaps. Cycles to failure are lhigher than a prop and nylon looses strength when wet. Nylon does wear a little better. I like a poly cover over nylon core rope for rigging. I might consider investing in trucking tarps. I have enough 20 oz tarp cover an entire dripline, call the local trucking tarp repair shop see what scrap you can get and then you don't have to worry to much about the ropes and the clean up is sweet and easy just gather the brush and flip and roll the tarps all onto one. I hate raking and my blower leaves the site spotless.
  7. Finishing off the Wellesly Cider on one of the toughest removal/climb ever for me. My men at the time said no freakin way, I was crazy. Full set of infrasructure lines to the east and buildings underneath and with minute drop zone. Rot everywhere. In the middle of the Brownstones downtown Hamilton, Cannon and Barton St. Did it on time and on schedule with the damage only to $ 60 trailer dolly handle. Robinnia pseuodoacacia and all rope on rope and harness. Locals watched the chainsaw ballet from the beer garden.
  8. I am not familiar with the pvc cresto. What is it?
  9. Anthropology student heads to a North American Native reserve to complete her studies with an interview with the Chief. Ginelle greets "Please to meet you. My name is Ginelle" Cheif greets "Howww. Me Cheif Screw em All" Ginelle " Cheif Screw Em All ??" Ya, me screw em all. Tall one, short one, skinny one, fat one, ugly and pretty one, me screw em all!" Ginelle " OH DEAR":blushing: Cheif " No, not dear. Dear run to fast, Ass to high"
  10. Thank you I appreciate the questions. I do not have all anwers. No one does thus the thread and Poll Lead throw Weights, YES, NO, Not an issue, I DID not know. That is the intent of this thread to share and gather info. My 1st hand discussions with arborists and what I have personally witnessed is some are being exposed to excessive amounts of Lead in Germany, UK, Canada and US.
  11. Here is the original Thread. Please can we forget or not include anything that is not related to the thread.
  12. I found this in Wikipedia Lead Poisoning. For what its worth and with out blood tests. Reference values The current reference range for acceptable blood lead concentrations in healthy persons without excessive exposure to environmental sources of lead is less than 10 µg/dL for children and less than 25 µg/dL for adults.[109] The current biological exposure index (a level that should not be exceeded) for lead-exposed workers in the U.S. is 30 µg/dL in a random blood specimen. Blood lead concentrations in poisoning victims have ranged from 30->80 µg/dL in children exposed to lead paint in older houses, 77–104 µg/dL in persons working with pottery glazes, 90–137 µg/dL in individuals consuming contaminated herbal medicines, 109–139 µg/dL in indoor shooting range instructors and as high as 330 µg/dL in those drinking fruit juices from glazed earthenware containers.[110] [edit] Prevention
  13. It doesn't take much the ppm i am not sure of and will get you the info. Lead and lead compounds can be highly toxic when eaten or inhaled. Although lead is absorbed very slowly into the body, its rate of excretion is even slower. Thus, with constant exposure, lead accumulates gradually in the body. It is absorbed by the red blood cells and circulated through the body where it becomes concentrated in soft tissues, especially the liver and kidneys. Lead can cause lesions in the central nervous system and apparently can damage the cells making up the blood-brain barrier that protects the brain from many harmful chemicals. I do a fair amount of work in Hamilton. It is has two steel plants and curse the dry summer months when I blow my nose and see the black snot. How many bags are lost and spilled in the environment. Birds use these pellets in their guts to digest. It is well documented the affects of lead shot in birds of pry. Remember the Bald and Golden Eagle and the almost extinction of the Condor with its thin brittle eggs. West coast north america sell bags with steel or brass. Their bags break open more there because the Palms knife them open. Lead is the cheapest, most impact dmapening and heaviest metal by volume wt. Its your choice to throw what ever you want I am sharing the info. Lead by association is bad and that can get personal but in no way am I slagging or making a pesonal attack at any one or business.
  14. Lead Poisoning Headache, poor attention span, irritability, loss of memory and dullness are the early symptoms of the effects of lead exposure on the CNS. The ability to think and reason is extremely sensitive to lead assault. Don't shoot the messenger. I am not the scientist but every industry world wide bans it.
  15. http://www.scitopics.com/Lead_toxicity_and_chelation_treatment.html Handling a Lead throw bag is bad for you. Use of a Balloons to contain will rupture and Lead is pulverized to dust and when wet oozes from the bag or permeates through the material into the air, onto your hands or lungs.

  17. Material Weight Component Toxic Lead:thumbdown: Steel Rubber Brand Weight What do you do with your spent bags? Recycle lead, dispose etc. What would you do to make it better, more useful etc? Is the toxic Lead found in most throw bags a concern? How long are they lasting? Any body been hurt or what kind of damage have you seen? Do you even throw? What tree access system do you prefer?
  18. Just wanted to befriend the 1st canuck eh! I was born in Thompson Man. My dad and his brother came from Portugal to work the nickle mines for Inco in early sixties.

  19. Beat him to the punch and send your help around with a flyer or biz card
  20. It makes sense if the roots that are being removed have been damaged/diseased etc greater than 35% or more. So it would be similar to pruning off a limb that was severely diseased or damage. One large wound opposed to many wounds makes better use of energy. To stimulate growth? Something is missing from this pic. Root pruning is a great way to control tree size, force flring and fruiting. It was Taught as Scottish Pruning. Happy Robbert Burns Day to all.
  21. Yeah, my dad to. Didn't get to see alot of him when I was young and now make every attempt to ask for his advice, include him in projects and just drop by for a beer. Worked like mad when I was kid to feed a family of seven. Most amazing punch ever! Watched him fly thru the air, landing a punch on this drunks face. knocking him out cold with his teeth on the ground. Drunk was scaring a best friend and little sister just a few homes down the street. Another time a violent bully chased us home and near into the house, lucky dad was home, he quickly closed the garage behind the bully and beat him with some lumber. 5'4'' and all torso, filled with a great big heart.
  22. You guys have no idea how lucky your are. Most Everything in Canada is so young. trees, shrubs, architecture etc. we do have expansive wilderness and some old growth forest but the history coupled with man's intervention is exceptional. At a Canadian pioneer cemetary you might see Norway spruce near the 80 to hundred year mark but to hear of something in cultivation for centuries must be experienced. A ring of 20 or so White Pines where the Natives came to meet and trade may be just over 100 years old. Our Comfort Maple i think is near 300 yrs?
  23. Beech the noblest tree on the planet.
