  1. Just outside North London, I dont believe its a SSSI
  2. We have been asked to price some rhody clearance work, and the price has to be per hectare, taking the rough with the smooth based on up to 7 hectares depending on price Mixed broadleaf wood with a variety of aged rhody from diameters of 1cm to 15cm at a mix of densities but would say medium to heavy. All material to be chipped and removed from site (not mulched on site unfortunately) and the stumps treated. They also want a price for the root removal with diggers and then also taken off site. We were planning to put a mog in there to chip the brash then a 13 tonne machine with rake on to pull the roots out. Does anyone have any rough ideas of timescales or costs for the for any of these parts as we have only mulched rhody in the past. Chip tip off very close by not sure about the roots yet. If anyone is interested in pricing this just send me a message Cheers

    Hedge laying

not a very old hedge somone coppiced it 5 or 6 years ago and is thorn elder and a bit of hazel we would be supply any of the materials
  4. I make you spot on with that, I recently sent a client a method statement for a completely different job by mistake but they still approved it!! Shows we put all this effort in as a paper excercise for the majority of the time. We used to send generic methods but more and more clients are demanding tailored ones, I don't hear them offering to increase our prices to allow for all this extra work.
  5. Started pricing for this winters work and have been asked to quote for some Midland style hedge laying which we would sub contract to a specialist, does anyone know the rough price per metre for the coming season Cheers
  6. you can bet your life that 20% is here to stay, we saw an increase in domestic work when it was at 15%. I think it is a psychological thing for the private clients, we had people almost panic ordering when they heard vat was going back up to 17.5%
  7. probably looking to keep the cost under 1500 - 1800
  8. I've just bought a 3.5t canter and am looking to build an arb body for it. Been looking at a few companies to build one probably from alloy to keep the weight down, can anyone recommend a good company that doesn't charge the earth and if poss not a million miles from north London. I've also heard of companies which supply preformed profiled alloy sheets and fittings to build your own with bolts/pop rivets, does any one have any experience in doing this and where did you get the parts from Cheers Veners
  9. the ones I’ve used have been remote control so vis excellent seen the carlton before and if I was in the market for a self propelled grinder would be the one id buy
  10. A great machine with good teeth, doesnt like wet soil and the two ive used have been a bit un reliable but eat stumps when they work well
  11. I bought an ex military turntable trailer so already piped for air and suitable for the mog speeds then built a stronger chassis over the top and utilised the mog sides so they are removable and look the same as the mog probably cost in the region of 3k
  12. As an employer the thing that impresses the most is something a bit different, you say you are willing to work for peanuts, when starting out I found an offer of let me pop in for a day with my own ppe and you don't need to pay me and you can see what im about was be the key to getting yourself in the door. Also the colleges in our area offer a service to link potential apprentices with employers.
  13. is that to employers or to colleges
  14. Have you guys considered an arb apprenticeship, you attend college to gain basic level certs whilst being employed and getting paid?
  15. When we got broken in to the police said expect it again in 3-6months as they know thats the insurance payout term. We cover most of essex and will keep an eye out as well.
  16. We recently worked on a conservation project that required bat inspection prior to works and the guys that carried out the assessment were from coventry, charged around the £500 - £600 per day mark for full climbing inspections and a team of two were averaging 12 - 15 trees per day, bearing in mind they were on this job for over a week and said they were booked for the next month there may be some financial reward for expert advice in this area.
  17. I have been contemplating a 3.5t tipper recently, from what i understand the iveco 3.0l usually has a payload of about 1.5t but you still then have to deduct a body and tools etc leaving you with something around the 1.25t mark. The couple I have driven all seem to pull like trains and haven't heard of any major faults.
  18. Nice one people not seen it before
  19. Can anyone tell me what these holes in the bark of a young sycamore are, they appear horizontally in several locations up the main stem and lower laterals.
  20. Good old coni hedges the best intro into pricing easy to under estimate the volume produced and the time it takes
  21. Where forced to offer maintenance we offer 2 years which includes replacement due to failure, watering and a little formative pruning but excludes vandalism. the schedule obviously depends on weather conditions.
  22. I also always have a reduced rate for hedges usually -20% or so but less if there is a bit of chainsaw work
  23. Encountered a similar problem, we installed the little rows of plastic spikes along the laterals to reduce landing points, they are available from places like jewsons for walls etc but can be tied to limbs. We also have a couple of local lads who shoot with air rifles if it is away from the public, you can find loads of these in the back of air rifle magazines looking for places to shoot.
  24. £24 seems a bit steep our local saw works only charges £7 for a set of TP blades not really worth setting anything up and the turn around is usually 24hrs
  25. A nice little set up, do you take the same amount off every blade? I never used to be to worried about it but the imbalance knocked out the main disc bearings very quickly
