  1. wow.......TOP effort mate:001_tongue:
  2. You can use the rear handled ms200 though, as opposed to ms200t, which is top handled. Anything by stihl will last years - keep the chain sharp, tensioned and bar looked after and away you go. My fave saw must be the 024, which i think is now called an ms241(?). Ms211 is certain to be a goody though. Good luck with the tests!
  3. It depends on how much and what dimensions of oak you want. Down here oak fetches about 50p a cubic foot roadside, and about £3-£4 delivered in. Milling costs are from about £30/hr for mobile milling upwards, but a decent operator with decent kit should be able to mill a lot of timber on site provided you give him a decent prepared area to set up in. If you need enough to justify a couple or more decent sticks to be mille, then buy it in the round and get a mobile mill in. Green sawn oak goes for from£22/cubic foot upwards down here, obviously depending on what size sections and what volume you have. The best guide for you would be to ring up some sawmills who deal in hardwoods- there are loads on line, and from what i can tell, the price seems to be fairly standard nationwide.
  4. That flying owl with its wings up is awesome si.
  5. Skyhuck is right- that cost was for everything, and i think most of it was down to the 35000 odd mile i did- i was working miles away most of the year, and seemed to have something towed all the time- i had just moved 35 miles down the road and still worked mostly in my old area. I think that was the year of two clutches, a rear cross member (from pulling around that big beech stick in the first pic) and some other repair work. The plan is to get some bigger gear when finances allow.......in the present economic climate though....?lol What new landy did you get for 15k, a ninety or something? I think i got a quote for a new 110 tipper with my spec- mech winch, ali dropside tipper with upped sus etc- which was well over 10k more than that!!
  6. Jeez swb never took you for a hairdresser- is that why you have mentioned the sale of your mog in a few threads- so you can buy a subaru impreza??
  7. little boy asks his dad "where does poo come from?" "well" replies dad,"food passes down the oesophagus to the stomach, where digestive enzymes induce a probiotic reaction in the alimentary canal to extract protein. The waste then descends via the colon and rectum to emerge as poo." The little boy looks stunned."Blimey" he says,"and waht about tigger?"..... Two women sitting in a cafe. One says to the other"im going to have a boob job". Her mate replies" i am having my asshole bleached". The first turns to her after a moments thought, and says"i cant imagine your keith with blonde hair"... Paddy meets mick in the street, and says " i wish you would close your curtains when you are seeing to the missus, all the neighbours were laughing at you yesterday". "Well" says mick" the jokes on them cos i wasnt even at home yesterday!"
  8. I think ive bored, or is that gored, you all silly with my most recent injury. They recogniise me at minor injuries now tho'!
  9. hahahahahahahahaha:001_tongue:
  10. I like your style mate:001_tongue:one machine to do it all. I can relate to that on a much smaller scale- my defender has to do a hell of a lot to earn its keep, and be expected to go anywhere and get out again, loaded or not. Sometimes its no wonder i am breaking it all the time! Maybe i need a mog... That log on the trailer is sweet chestnut- its a 10x5 ifor. It took several hours to get that out of the woods with pto winch, which also loaded it onto the trailer with ramps and cant hooks.......i think you get the gist of it. Wish i had a machine like yours sometimes. That landrover cost me about 14000 to run and maintain the year before last! That was a record mind, and did a huge mileage that year. Oh well!
  11. Thats an awesome rig with the crane in your photo skyhuck. You ever need to rent in much kit then?
  12. Really?? Thought that with ag tyres they were meant to be pretty much go anywhere..What have you got now

    hahahahahahah:001_tongue:
  14. nice touch on the chinese:001_smile:Likewise- if i can ill leave it on site, but my mountain grows and shrinks sporadically. Its only a theory, but given how much amillaria there is around cornwall, i am conscious of moving the stuff around too much.
  15. That valmet looks pretty handy. Have you got a mountain of chip then? I have a good outlet for mine- under horses feet!
  16. nice. I know a guy down here who has one of those i think. Is it almost as small as a landy/ cabstar?
  17. 50 mins! Paople tell me i have a pretty handy defender/ 6"chipper outfit, but to take them down and clean up like that in 50 mins! I see your point! Do you have smaller trucks also or not bother at all now you have the mog?
  18. Yeah, they're a bit more like it. They are actually pretty useful looking, rather than just looking pretty:001_tongue: Do you have the chippers mounted all the time? I dont think gear like that would earn its keep in cornwall!!:sad:Not many big trees down here! Do you ever play in them or are they just for work?
  19. Ive got a pretty old vermeer chipper which has never let me down, and im led to believe that all of their kit is pretty good. I think my mate uses a vermeer stumpgrinder he has had for ages and is still going strong, but ill check and get back.
  20. This thread is coz i havent got one! And wa prompted by mention of skyhucks and swbs mogs. I have always wanted a mog, until i worked with a mate and his U900. It had a crane which couldnt lift much, a winch which wa really slow, and no load bed to speak of. I started thinking that they were just expensive toys which wealthy tree surgeons/foresters had.....then i joined arbtalk and saw the mogs on here.... so, with these bigger machines, is there little they cant do? Elighten the now (re-)converted. Obviously feel free to post as many pics as you like......
  21. Totally. Fancy doing a couple of elm ones- got that piece on the mill at the mo waiting for hand to heal!
