  5. Hi guys. Im looking for work and to be honest would happily consider going anywhere. Im based in Ipswich, Suffolk and have been around the game since the early nineties. I was an engineer before I moved into our line of work and a keen mountaineer and rock climber. Massive change of career I know, but seeing some guys tree climbing one day made me think, wow, I can do that!. Full clean pre 97 driving licence NPTC cs 30,31,32,33,36,37,38,39,39,40,41 C and G phase 2 Arb I have previous experience on the rails but sadly all tickets have long run out, thats where I was an engineer!. I have worked as a supervisor and relief manager on 1m plus contracts before becoming self employed, this was in the grounds maintenance sector. Im fit, strong as an ox, reliable, and seriously hard working. Times are hard here at the moment as most of us know, so really looking for any opportunities that just may exist out there. To add to the above, I have vast experience in fencing, turfing, old school rope work lol, dont know how else to word that!, groundie, climber, dangerous tree take down, sectional felling etc etc. Need to know more?, got an offer?, come on guys, hit me up. Graham PS, best of luck to everyone looking for work out there.
  6. Hi Mark Follow this link to the basics mate HM Revenue & Customs: Tax returns if you're self-employed or in a partnership Basically you have to register within 3 months of going self employed, you need to think carefully on the timing as there can be advantages if you choose the month right etc.

  8. Countrywide Grounds Maintenance in Reading, Bracknell, Newbury, Basingstoke, Wokingham, Farnborough, Camberley, Fleet, Aldershot, Farnham Just threw the phone number Into google and provide link above :]
  9. Nice truck for someone that, love the truck mounted chipper
  10. HSE - Electricity - Overhead power lines
  11. Any person removing or pruning a tree within a Conservation Area, without first giving the statutory notification, is guilty of a criminal offence and liable on summary conviction to a heavy fine. I once worked for a local arborist. Before my time with him he had been called in to do a days work for a friend, a local garden maintenance contractor to do some felling work because he himself had no formal training In tree works. To cut a long story short my old boss felled a large mature oak on the boundary of a church yard having been assured by the garden contractor and the vicar that it was in the boundary of the yard and not outside and not protected in anyway. Wrong, forestry commission there before the tree was logged, plans in hand. Result, Vicar = no action, Garden contractor £1000 fine, Arborist on a day rate, not his job or billing the vicar remember = £5000 fine, why = He was the only one Involved who with 45 years of experience and Arb qualifications under his belt etc should have known better.
  12. I hear what you're saying Rob and It certainly seems that way. I wish you all the best with it and remember this, Its basically the same as a Police Interview under caution and you have exactly the same rights ie the right to have someone with you be it a legal rep, friend etc, the right to say nothing, the right to leave at any time. Out of further curiosity, have you spoken to your former boss or work colleagues about this, Im sure you're not the first to be contacted.
  13. Hi Rob If you are asked to attend a formal Interview, which I believe you say you have been?, a formal Interview is normally, a formal Interview under caution!. Also, a formal Interview under caution usually means that the local authority believes you have committed a criminal offence!. Just thought you would want to know this as I am sure you want to be prepared In the best way possible. What Im curious about is, have you not received a request In writing to attend the Interview?, as this Is normal practice!
  14. Along the lines of Stephen here. Put 100% effort Into everything you take on, do everthing the way it should be done, always leave the site clean and tidy, think 100% customer service at all times, if you give a fixed quote, stick to it!. If you follow these basic rules, what little work you get Initially, "WILL" have a knock on effect, your customers will refer you to their friends, family and work mates. This kind of advert for your business/service is worth 10 of any fancy add in any publication :]
  15. My Insurance used to go down year on year with the Co-Op on the wifes Fiat Punto, then suddenly doubled one year out of the blue. I had been with them for years, but after that, never went back!. As for the quote In question, I think I would look at offering that to the papers, you may get a oner for the print out, that'll bring ya price down :]
  16. Hi Leafboy. Can only talk from my own experience here. I always found that I would start getting calls mid feb to early march from mainly my established client base, some of these booking me for dates 6 months ahead, new enquiries were often later, starting early march onwards.
  17. I do think that the way these guys behaved In terms of severing their employment, the message, leaving the car and flat etc how they did Is terrible and nothing short of totally unacceptable!. It didn't take much working out who one of them was, a quick look at your past posts lead me there following a clue from an earlier post in the thread!. Out of curiosity, and I dont mean or intend to show support for these two whatsover!, was everything spelt out before they departed for the Algarve?, working hours and days, daily rate, how temporary the flat was, what they would have to pay for the flat etc and an Idea given as to the cost of permanent digs?. From another side, like a couple of others who have posted, I too took work out in Germany several years ago, my first work abroad!, I was lured by the wages, the free flight, the free digs and grub etc and signed to an Initial 28 day contract, all climbing and mainly reduction work. When I landed, no one was there to meet, greet and transport as promised. It took me an age to get an answer on the telephone, only to be given an address and Instructions on how to get to the site!, I was a little shocked and surprised to say the least. Getting there cost me an arm and a leg, and yet more surprised to find my digs were on the site, In the middle of the forest In what only just resembled the kind of porta kabin type digs most of us have seen at some stage, us older boys at least!, on a well known Geordie boy builders, tale of adventures type show In years gone by. My food was toast or some sgrambled oat thing, no options to pack up, option to return to said digs for lunch if you could work it out and a stew like mush for every evening meal, all sorted out by the so called foreman :], on top of this I suffered what felt like mega sub zero temperatures constantly, no means to get to the local shop, which was probably about 50 miles away anyway, or so it felt lol, never got the smell of a beer, let alone any local girls, who would probably have resembled the wild men of Borneo anyway, so probably just as well :]. Having said all this, I felt it was more my problem than that of my employer as I hadn't asked for full clarification and as such, although I complained often!, I stayed the course, did my daily quota, ate the mulch, suffered the cold and departed after my contracted 28th day. On a plus note I learnt a lot from the experience, did get transported back to the Airport and did have the bucket load of cash in my bin as promised :] Hard moments, but a happy ending :] Wish you every success Lurcherman, Im sure a good man or two are coming your way soon
  18. Yeah thanks T, had read that at the time and after following my many stints of googling, could be I've just said a wrong word to the old sod :]
  19. Yeah sounds about how I used to feel lol. Wrecked my GT380 one night in a head on crash, official police records at the time gave the combined impact at 122 mph, car pulled in front of me when I was doing 90 plus, dont to this day know how I survided the crash, let alone walk out of hospital a couple of hours later with just cuts and bruises, oh, and a limp or two lol.
  20. Your Dad's right, very slap happy, down to the weight of that series I think. Seem to remember my GT750 only weighed something like 351 pounds, must be right, strange number to remember otherwise :] thing used to fly for its day though, remember dropping a gear or two at 120 mph and thinking my baby was gonna do a Blue Bird on me.
  21. Catching this talk tonight, I cant help but say that I have a very dear friend in NZ that used to e-mail me 3/4 times a week, last I heard was end August!, nothing since, no reply to christmas or new year wishes either! Could be for a number of reasons of course, but who knows.
  22. Just to reflect on Dean's reply to me earlier, had to laugh aload regards your quote on having to pedal up hills on the PUCH lol, remember having to do that like it was yesterday Love the old pic of the GT250 posted earlier and memories come flooding back regards people mentioning the GT550 and a kettle. I myself had what I believe was an original GT250?, called a Hustler, had rubber mounts on the front forks and I believe banned at one stage. Also had a GT380 Triple, Black with gold stripes to match my Ford Capri at the time which was also Black with go faster stripes lol, got to laugh Later I got hold of a GT750 Water Bottle, lovely bike, a bit mad and hard to tame, but loved it. Got some pics somewhere which I simply must dig out now
  23. Now this is a thread that brings back some memories :] I too had an FS1E, mine was gold, got rid of the pedals as soon as I was legally able too, thought I had bought a real mans bike at the time lol, my first being a PUCH, yellow in colour with a big boys chrome tank, or so I thought :}
  24. Thinks Frankpr8 should take more notice to post dates, the last post before him by Finky was over 13 months ago :]
