  1. how does folks, just wondering if you have to do some sort of ticket/course to work on highways clearance work. i know on the railway you have to have pts, but dont know about roads/highways could some one give me a pointer please, cheers
  2. distel and pulley here too, the few other boys with me have tried different things (so have i, i'm a sucker for new toys) its easiest and cheapest
  3. got risk assessment, method statement, full ppe etc, all the usual paperwork and cow poo, but now they want us to do a pre work survey/inspection. its crazy/ waste of time etc but covers them even more if something does happen
  4. sorry was in a rush when posted(and trying to do million other things) recently had a small piece of metal fly up and cut my finger (not serious) the firm i was doing the job for asked to see my 'pre work survey'. i.e wanted to pass any blame off as being my fault for not checking the ground properly and recording any hazards. like i said this time it wasnt serious but i have also recently heard of similar thing happening in west country somewhere but from what i've been told, the guy lost a few teeth, fractured cheek bone and some serious cuts. i was wondering if anyone else has had anything similar happen? has anyone else being asked about 'pre work survey/insection' of the site? if so what/ how do you guys do it? it may help some or it may be a waste of time, but i do think more companies are going to be asking for things like this
  5. how does folks, just after picking a few brains. has anyone ever had to do a 'pre work inspection'???? how would you record it? it may be waste of time but i think more companies are going to be asking their contractors to do more things like this(its all backside covering) any feed back???? this may also apply to normal saw works/ bird nesting/ site clearance etc
  6. how does folks. my main contract has now decided that we have got to do and record a daily 'bird nesting' form, basically a quick walk and look through the job to check for nests etc. just wondering if anyone else has had to do or does do anything similar and also any idea on how to make/format the form (got to keep it simple for us red necks) any help would be great. cheers
  7. how does folks, just wondering if any supplyers have actually got any of the orange saw trou, all local guys cant seem to get any, they just keep getting fobbed off with excuses, i need about 30 pairs, from med-xlarge. has anyone seen either the sips or francicle ones? seen and got some stretch airs but the are pretty expensive(when you can get them) any help would be great, cheers
  8. how does folks, was wondering if anyone out there knows of a company in south or west wales that does chainsaw/ chipper etc training. I've heard of a few but they demand full payment in advance(is this common practice?) and few other problems(double booking etc) any one able to help out at all thanks in advance
  9. p.s thanks for the support and any advice
  10. talking to some of the lads in work what their general response is;1 who going to do the mentoring and are they going to have any sort of come backs if the person being mentored has an accident(what ever god looks after saw operators forbidding) 2 how long do they watch them on either a 1-1 bases and after just generally keeping an eye on them, 3 we should all be watching each other any way cos accidents do happen and we all pick up bad habit or sometimes we cant see what is obvious to some one else etc. all valied points i think but also there should be some way of recording the process. anyone got any ideas, maybe a few of the instructors/ assessors out there can give a few pointers cos like 1 of the boys said earlier 'we never stop learning and we can all still f**k up'(he has over 20 years expriance)
  11. how does folks, just something that has recently been brought up by 1 of my main companies. they now want anyone who has recently done a saw course to be mentored but dont state how long for, just wondering what everyone thinks is or will be acceptable and has anyone else been tld to do something similar?
