  1. wow, what a response, i own the tree business, but i would not insult someone in which ever industry, even if they are starting out by paying them £50 for a 10 hour day.
  2. ridiculous even
  3. £50 for a ten hour day, that is rediculous, you can get more stacking shelves in a local supermarket, and you dont get wet, cold, and a free lunch, minimum i will pay is £60 per day, for grunt work, £75 ground work with your own ppe etc. No i am not looking for anyone.

  5. dont have a pantin, dont like em. i am off to engineer for the night, this may take sometime, but if your gonna do a job, do it ya self
  6. ok here we go, lets spell it out, spliced eye onto bridge, rope up and over an object, preferably branch, sky hook or passing chinook will suffice, on the rtn rope, i have a blue right handed ascender, with a sling to my foot, backing this up i can either use a ropeman, but prefer the maxi traxion. when i slide the blue ascender up, full reach, i then stand, the back up ascender i want to follow, as i step up, at the mo, you have to tender, which is nothing really but when rock climbing, the shorter bridge etc, allows the traxion to be much closer to the body. yet tenders better. I m going off to shoot myself
  7. as a climbing instructor, i have all the kit, i have just had the opportunity to have the afternoon playing, throwline rope up through tree to desired branch i am tied in, then on other leg, i have ascenders, in which ever format, i then have a sling which goes underfoot, cant be r'sd with footlocking. I can still climb nearly a metre a thrust, so to speak, i have back up maxi traxion, if i want to drop out the whole way, then attach a cinch and let go. The tending part between main ascender and backup seemed messy and time consuming.
  8. Moving on at a pace now, has anyone got a picture of the correct setup for drt, not srt, i am using either a petzl ascender backed up with a petzl maxi traxion, or a seconder ascender then to descend i can go onto a trango cinch. I have been playing with them today, the going up part is easy, but the tending of the rope between the first ascender and the backup ascender was time consuming and messy. or do you get the ground based operatives to tend the rope. The bridge on a sport climbing harness is a lot lower and shorter than on a work positioning arb based harness. I am only interested in DRT in this config, not going and buying other ascenders etc.
  9. Gonna plunge into the world of mechanical prussik, have been watching the video of the petzl zig zag, does not seem to self tend quite as well as the sj2.1. Has this thread already taken place else where or am i just late to the party. Both look pretty, both do the same thing, both cost quite a lot of money, the zig zag will no doubt be revised once we have found issues. Thoughts please.....keep it sensible and on topic
  10. By the nature of the four wheel driving, the roots of trees covered by a TPO are being damaged, i would speak to the Tree Office and find out what the issue is. I know nothing of the site, does it back on to houses etc, have people complained about noise or other goings on which are associated with the use of the land.Is it something indirect, the roots can be protected, several ways, tipping soil, shale, buidling up land, changing the route for traffic would reduce the disturbance to the root areas in question.
  11. I am looking for someone to groundie for me for a three days, must have cs tickets for at least ground work with a saw. WOrk starting tuesday 11th September, may be the start of something, struggling for ground staff at moment
  12. donnt buy rock exotica, dont like em, feel strange, get a steel triple action, the full harness supplied with the platform should have the lanyard absorber section, already on, compliant with loler on the harness
  13. arb reports and method statements in accordance with bs5386/2012, there is also a load of really good stuff in NHBC chapter 4.2 document. Best get it right though, otherwise it all just gets bounced around like kangaroo court
  14. i have just read the first thread again, i dont understand why it is going around and around, were they tpo'd, yes or no, if no then no problem, if yes then as a professional, the relevant information should have been sort before the work carried out. What concerns me is that there are people with a lot of years of arboricultural experience, but did not learnt that much, especially the way local councils work. The councils also have retrospective powers.
  15. I am looking for someone, who can work on the ground, can climb but not critical, tickets etc would be good. I am looking for someone who is enthusiastic, must be able to communicate well even when the phone does not ring. Must be able to either drive to either the site or to my location. They will assist in normal treework, but also in the legal side, may be reporting etc, may be carrying tree inspections, may include VTCI(Visual Tree Climbing Inspection). There will be a lot of learning, rigging etc, reporting legals. Sub contract is what i am looking for, i can work certain stuff around people's diaries etc. Let me know if you have any thoughts, i am flexible in options and working practice
  16. Catalpa BIgnonoides by any chance
  17. 20m is ok, if you read BS5387:2012, and the subsidence guidelines, and building regs, you are well outside range, however other things to remember, when the plot is sold, LTO may place tpo on trees, which is fine, however look at orientation of trees and plot, when they get bigger and the house is built are they going to impact on the house from resale, views, shading, garden shading and water uptake etc. There are lots of people garden grabbing, and then discover a monster living in the corner. Making foundations a tad deeper is peanuts in the scheme of buying a plot, and building it anyway. Without a picture it is difficult, think you will be fine though
  18. I think retirement is the best place for these type of outfits, bury ya head in the sand, ahhh cant see the problem now, what happened to responsibility and accountability, unless it is just a case of knocking trees down
  19. i am using english braids no 4, looks less than 1mm, pick it up from a chandler , 40 -50m spool for about a fiver
  20. General question, is there anything to stop us using ocean vectran as our main prussik , in conjunction with a hitchclimbing system, it says load bearing, more about diameter. I thought there had been noise about diameter in relation to what you can do with a sugoi in a single stroke, but lets be honest, if its that close to the rope ya positioning is not great
  21. to be honest i didnt measure it, i originally had bought a 60cm ocean vectran prussik, but the nature of the stitching on the loop closure i thought was bulky, if you make the loop yourself, it means the double fishermans can go up close to the poison ivy, then the loop is literally looped through the pulley device, it runs and picks up through the large loop in a smoother fashion. i have now adapted it and made a shorter prussik hand tied (ocean vectran), and stuck a pinto with spacer in place of the art pulley.
  22. in the large loop, i threaded a bit of rear mountain bike gear change cable, thin enough, but springs back into shape
  23. Bonjour my little friend, how is the loire valley
