  1. The retailer I spoke to who said he can get me one said there were two kinds. He said that he was going to get the more heavy duty one for the sake of an extra £30, any idea what the difference is between the two are? Cheers for the link Charlieh.
  2. Cheers Chris, I'll do that! Annoyed that I didn't pay it much attention on the day. Don't have much call for that Kind of setup, but with this half K hedge, thats a total of a Kilometer and a half of one years growth to trim (both sides + top). I did it two years ago, and it bloody gave me tennis elbow for six months....well think it was that, I was single at the time.....so I'm hoping it will save me a heap of energy, and maybe time too?
  3. Anyone see the harness for the pole saw at the APF show? At the time I didn't pay much attention to it, but since then I've just got a job to trim a half Kilometer 10' high conifer hedge and am thinking I could do with something like that to save my arms. Found this link for what I believe is the harness I saw, can't find ANYTHING else on the net remotely like it. http://www.easyliftharness.com/index.php Spoke to a local retailer who said he can get me one, thinks it will be about £280........My question is, has anyone tried one/bought one, or the very least, examined one closely? Reckon they are worth the buy. Got good money on the job, so can afford to shell out the dosh, just want to know if it'll save my back/arms?
  4. Met her at Colchester zoo once.
  5. Blood type 'Hagen Daz'
  6. Now THATS my way of thinking! .........Yeah...'cough'....use a MEWP, way too dodgy climbing that sucker.
  7. LOL! Slap the thigh and 'ride in the wave'
  8. Guess its one of those things where ya have to be there. None of us can tell just from that pic....though got a good idea it would have been fine as long as you don't have a go at bungee jumping from it!
  9. Now THAT I can do Bob!..........wonders.............would it be ok to share my porn collection with others on here?
  10. Dito here, would climb the bugger, but hey, if a client payed out for a MEWP, I'd have a go, big boys toys and all that....but not cutting a tree from it, just to see how high it went and see what the view was like. Got a great leaning pop' to do in a couple of weeks, same harsh lean, with a hedge to avoid underneath, will get some pics and maybe a vid on here when I do it....looking forward to getting those spikes on!
  11. Adds to the 'feel' of the photo.
  12. You obviously aren't a proffesional Shyhuck, we all know it's 'Lopping'
  13. Yeah, already using one for that too Tana.....Maybe I could hang my hanging baskets from it?

    new tree

NOW THAT is a good idea indeed! Such a shame they don't TASTE of strawberrys......climbing while taking a quick snack, take up a pot of cream...........
  15. Mmmmmm...my stomach is rumbling at the thought!...What am I gonna do with my micro pulley....any other uses?
  16. GREAT VIDEO! For all you that climb on a standard prussic, you really should give this knot a try. Its the micro pulley that is the key here. I use a valdotain-tresse as a friction knot, takes a little more playing around to get it how you want it, but it never jams or tightens yet always grips (again, as long as you dress it correctly and get the right length of rope) As said, its the pulley that is the magic part. It half's the effort needed to tighten your rope, and you can also do it with just one hand (Brilliant for limb walking back into the tree) I use this system on my second line too, so so so handy! Interesting pulley used in the vid, I use a petzel micro pulley but it only has one anchoring point, so I use a modified dog collar clip (hard to explain) to fix the pulley to my carabeena, but messy, and sometimes twists, will be getting two of those little suckers next time I go shopping.

    new tree

Ian: Gladitsia? Cherry? Apple? Hawthorn (urgh!) Would like to say Walnut, but too big me thinks. Not sure on a hornbeam, NICE tree but that's more of a LARGE tree surely?
  18. looking at the crown, and taking all the information into consideration.......
  19. Def' not 'spicy beef' or 'chicken tika', imagine if the wrapper split!
  20. I sometimes take a pack of pasties to work, is that the key? Do pies work also? Joking aside as Arborlord says, If you ain't sure DON'T do it! I remember being egged on on a job that was running a little behind Schedule in the days when I did a bit of subbing. They were all saying on the ground, "Yeah that will be fine, it will swing around you" They we so trying to convince me it would be ok but I was less than convinced.....(great big ash limb stretching out over a shed.) I'm so glad I didn't listen, I would have a face like a potato if I HAD listened to them! The limb did exactly what I thought it would do, and swung into the trunk, EXACTLY where I had been before my little "garden" Angel told me to move out the way.
  21. Sure struck some nerves with that didn't I! I had to fell a a lovely tree today, not sure what it was ....King William pine maybe? Anyone got any ideas?(should dig my tree indent books out, but gawd knows where in the loft they are) Anyhooo, the tree had to be felled due to a VERY large extension being built on the back of her house. No way out of the fell, planning officer was adamant that it had to go. She was just as gutted as I was to fell such a wonderful tree......so I made the mushroom for her, she LOVED it (Priced the job a little too high, and finished so early that I offered) ((First bit of chainsaw carving I've ever done, NOT as easy as I thought, took nearly an hour to whittle that down to size, good fun though))
  22. I understand and agree with you skyhuck concerning client/contractor confidence. I do feel the need at this point to mention it wasn't me that contacted the TO, and it wasn't my job. As for the yew, and other trees I've worked on that are in my eye 'specimens'. I've said to the owners that if they moved house they could consider getting a tpo added then.
  23. If i'm honest, Ive drawn these trees for my own satisfaction, so I don't think I could part with the originals. I do have quality prints, and have considered doing a few more and maybe doing a stall at the next arb show, I'll have to see how busy I am this winter. As for price, no idea really. Thorndon park were selling them at £25 including frame and mounting card, guess that sounds fair?
