  1. I thought you needed an output shaft on both sides of the engine, one to drive the cutter disc and one to drive the hydraulic pump?
  2. how did you get around the twin output shaft? I can`t find any of themon anything!
  3. thats what I was thinking but which engine to go for??? I know the kohler engine is 25hp but what hp would I need with a diesel??
  4. Hi I have a vermeer 625i with the kohler 25 petrol engine on it and I think the rings have/are going gone!!! oil spewing from dipstick which leads me to think that the crank case is getting preasurised. Had some work done on it last year, as the head gasket had gone. Unfortunatley the threads in the block had to be helicoiled so the mechanic has said that he doesn`t know how long it will last!! So i`m looking for an old but usable kohler or possibly changing it to a diesel perkins?? However finances don`t allow for too much. we are in a catch 22 situation at the moment, work booked in but chipper nearly up the swannee. Any help/advise would be gratefully recieved.
  5. only people like us would get excited about tractors and mogs and stuff!!! looks like im not the only one to browse the net to see stuff they would like to buy for arb, knowing that it would be totally impractical, but cool??? and having the missus tell you that your not keeping THAT on the drive!!!!!

  9. Anyone noticed that the new phone book hasn`t got the free one liners in the buisness section this year? Last year there were 19 people not including the main adverts but then there were only 6 main ads, this year there is only 4 main ads!! which from my point of view is great!! We went from a quarter column to a quarter page for only £6 a month extra which has also put our ad first on the page!!! 2-3 jobs will pay for it.
  10. Well if I could afford to pay my groundie more I would however I usually only do between £200-£300 a day. I would love to get to the position of doing £500 a day but there just doesn`t seem to be any big jobs that come my way to even quote, usually just the obligatory conifers!! I have used young fit lads in the past but quite often they can`t be trusted to even drag brash let alone fell trees etc, when I come down from the tree I expect that most of the brash has been chipped of at least stacked ready for chipping, I hate it when there is brash on the floor and they are standing around yakking on the phone to mates or always texting and generally waiting for me to come down and help them. If its too big to drag then I tell them to get a hand saw or leave it to one side and I will deal with it later. The guy I employ at the moment is an out of work plasterer and I tell you this, he is the best groundie I have had, loads of initiative, late 30's so he knows he needs to work hard to keep his job. Hopefully he is going for his chainsaw tickets soon so yes his wages will rise, as I know he love doing this now rather than plastering!! We start about 8.30 and finish when the job is done, which can be anywhere between 12 and 5 and he gets paid the same so its in his best interest to work hard, we also don`t have a "lunch hour" because we both would rather be at home. Yes we have breaks for tea and bicckies but thats about it. Rant over!!!
  11. Sounds like I`m paying my groundie too much. £50 a day and no tickets!!! mind you it is on a casual basis, only 2 days work this week and nothing else booked in yet!! Plus he only drags and feeds the chipper no chainsaw work at all.
  12. Thank you for all your kind words, and lets hope 2010 is a prosperous year for us all!!
