  1. Hey Andy.i would really like to climb for you for that day! It would mean that i could get to know another of my favourite Arbtalkers:)..just tell me where and when and i'll be there...suited and booted:thumbup:
  2. Okay...Day 3. Now, when i started this thread i was at Rock bottom, with i think a single pound in my pocket.I didn,t know what else to do except Seek out work on my bicycle using all i had which was my enthusiasm and determination..i made enough money to fill my fridge and i shared my day on Arbtalk. Work close to home would have been ideal but distance would never have stopped me(Which it didn,t) I made a promise to my first three offers to turn up on time at a specified location with Climbing kit/PPE.. The first offer i was made came from Kent and was with today,s Boss..Mr Mick Stockbridge...this was a days work i was looking forward to the most as he offered me work on the strength of my post alone and for that reason i knew we had a lot in common:001_smile: For the second day i woke at 4.30 a.m Necked a coffee and grabbed my bicycle and headed for the train station...First stop,Lewisham wher Rich Rule would be waiting for me ...Immediatly we hit it off..we are from the roughly the same area of the North East and the Journey to The Medway was flew past and we talked all the way there...it felt like i was back at home with one of my mates:biggrin: Mick was waiting for us when we arrived..Introduced me to his missus who brought out coffee and i met his little terrier..A very warm welcome from the man who gave me my first break in my desperate time and i will always be grateful and always have time for him:thumbup:...Todays job...Rich would "Pancake" these three ivy clad self seeded trees at the top of the hill...i would get them to the bottom to Mick who would process them..I was working with hard working experienced blokes like myself so we didn,t need to discuss it...Just crack on and do it!...Me and mick worked out the best way would be for me to gather the cut stems, lash em together and he,d use the truck winch to drag them down to the chipper...I added a dumpy bag round the butt ends allowing them to skid...Finnished by three:001_rolleyes: The guy next door to the job was so chuffed with what we,d done he made us coffee and let us do a lunge on his rather nice outdoor staicase:lol: While he flew his Quad copter around:lol: How random was that..Thanks Mick and Rich:thumbup::thumbup: A great day and two more Friends for life!...see you a week on friday for Part 2...Bring Bolam with ya:lol: In the meantime...i am always available for full or part time work!!! and will continue this thread as it seems to be of inspiration to people already...and that makes me very HAPPY:biggrin::biggrin:

On the bike to Richmond with climbing kit etc...jumped on the train to Twyford to Meet DLB (Delabodge) aka Colin. I thought he,d had at least 6 coffees! Two Energentic Wood maniacs together:thumbup: What a nice welcome.got introduced to the team and got a guided tour of what is a wood turners wet dream!...Colin turned me a mushroom bottle stopper in seconds like he was peeling a potato:thumbup1:..Showed me some Beautiful slices of Yew and Elm...then we loaded up to knuckle down to some Graft....Lovely Winding country roads dotted with picturesque buildings ,trees and a rather nice pub called the jolly Angler...I Took two connies down between a couple of fences which was fun using a rather cool little saw with a carving bar which worked really well for stripping out the stems..Boshed em down and helped on the ground whilst young Geoff dismantled a big Scotty over the road...The owner of the house provided us with hot buttered toast in the morning and bacon butties for dinner:thumbup:..Very proffesional Team..good crack and i was made very very welcome. I gave 110% and he recognised that and was most generous at the end of the day....Please do not hesitate to call me should you need a second climber/Groundie anytime in the future...Thanks for the tour of your Allotment/Build...Most impressed. Nice enjoyable cycle along the Thames..No pictures of the job as it was Go GO GO!...Busy Eucalyptus fell..Proper Tree surgery company...All the saws neatly stored in lockers, ropes tidy in containers and a clean truck....I like a tidy outfit:thumbup1:Once the tree was down, chipped and logs removed from site it was time for Dinner break...Now, we never had dinner breaks in my last job...everything rushed:sneaky2: The boss took me to a local cafe and bought me steak and kidney pie, chips and beans It was the perfect time to talk about What i,d done,he,d done...usual tree surgeon banter (again, something i havent had the pleasure of recently)...Twas like a breath of fresh air!...Back in the real world i thought:biggrin:...Dumped the woodchip went to his yard which happened to be where "Sham 69" used to practice in the late seventies! in this barn in Surrey...At the end of the day he thanked me for my effort and paid me handsomely.....i managed to get pics of my lasting memory of today,s job..His chipper:thumbup:...A 14 year old custom built chipper by a MR Bill Chenery...builder of fine chippers....it was a pleasure to use, didn,t faulter once and had so much character.....he said it hadn,t failed him in 14 years....It was a lot more reliable than some i,ve used recently:sneaky2:...Tommorow i,m climbing in Reading!
