  1. No, black. Definitely black.
  2. Bet it all on red....
  3. I found 8mm friction cord (can't remember what make it is, nothing fancy though) grips my sirius fine. I've got a Cinch you can try if you want - I never got on with it. my kit bag is like the lanyard graveyard
  4. I had a little bit of accessory cord tied in a prussik then clipped to a crab next to the bag - same sort of thing as a slip knot on a crab, but a bit quicker to adjust (I found). But I just found it got a bit tiresome, having to adjust two things on my lanyard. Presumably the retractable lanyard in the smooth climbing video is the thing that looks like a film reel on his harness?
  5. I'm not sure about the iPad, but when I was using Safari on my iMac it got really stroppy trying to run flash sites and kept crashing. Switched to Chrome and it's all good. As for which model, I've got the 24" 2.4gHz iMac, 2 gig of RAM, and it's got plenty of power to run quite processor hungry audio programmes, as well as having a tiny footprint and looking pretty.
  6. Nah, apparently their boiler blew up, and the hefty bill that followed took precedence over a few needles in their swimming pool. Makes sense in January I suppose...
  7. I had 10m of 10mm sirius in a silver bull bag. It's cool, until the little loop of rope that comes out of the bag and goes to your side D gets caught on something, like it will EVERY 5 MINUTES, and then you've got to stuff your really long lanyard back into the tiny aperture of the bag. Haha, I'm getting angry just thinking about it. Gone back to a shorter lanyard, and the joys of the stopper knot geting caught on the bottom of the sawpod. The bag's just collecting dust at the mo, you're welcome to it if you want to try it out?
  8. We use some motorola T5 walkie talkies when necessary - they're tiny and unobtrusive, and you can clip them onto the chin strap of your helmet so they're out of the way, but easy to reach. Easy to operate with gloves on, and with the volume right up, it's pretty clear to hear with your ear defenders down. Think they're about £40 and I love them as a cheap and cheerful solution. The downside is when your groundy starts singing a really catchy song, and then it gets stuck in your head.
  9. It came off a standing dead oak, the customer didn't know how long it'd been dead for, but a good few years, I reckon. As for price, I honestly don't know how much something like this is worth to one of you guys. If it's just worth pocket money, then we'd probably rather keep hold of it ourselves.
  10. No, Jen still holds the caramel shortbread aspect of my heart. There was this one place in chinnor, mind...... Anyway, I've sent you a PM so's everyone can look at my burr in peace. Does that sound wrong?
  11. hahahaha prapperrrrrr jarrrrrb. hiya boy! I was worried that one of the other lads had learned how to spell.... Are you in surrey or something these days? I couldn't remember who came up with that one, but I knew the hover chipper idea wasn't mine... How's that going? Are you on beta testing yet? Want a burr? Want a burr?
  12. Yeah, I worked for Protree a few years back. Representin' SA62 Was that a totally random question or have our paths crossed on some 11kv circuit...
  13. Hauled this sucker out of a customer's woods yesterday. It's roughly 110cm X 100cm X 40cm, weighs somewhere around 200kg and was a lot of fun for two of us to get on the back of the truck in the dark and rain thought i'd put it up here first to see if anyone fancied it... Mike
  14. And mine's philosophy. What a funny bunch we are...
  15. Yeah I've had haix for years, and loved them but it seemed like the recent batch of soles were a bit rubbish and fancied a change. Got the meindls from HB so I'd be pretty surprised if they were fakes... Just wanted to know if mine were the odd ones out, which it seems like they are, so I'll see about sending them back. Shame really because all of my handbags go so well with them.
  16. So my month old Meindl airstreams had their first outing in the rain today. After two hours I was squelching around with absolutely soaking feet. Not really what I was hoping for... Anyone else had this problem? I haven't treated them with any wax or dubbing, but then I never treated my Haix with anything and they were totally waterproof until the soles fell off. Pretty unimpressed tbh. At least they're red, I guess
  17. I'm pretty sure Norway isn't in the EU.... however, "Citizens of full European (EFTA, EEA) Member Countries are able to live and work in Norway without a visa or work permit." Taken from Anywork Anywhere - Jobs & Resources For Work & Travel Worldwide Lovely people and scenery, prepare to have your finances decimated though.
  18. No worries mate, I'm glad we can both get some advice!
  19. Haha, I'm not sure who's post is referring to who's merip infected beech, given that we've got two in this thread now, but I spoke to Andrew Cowan of Arborecology and he recommended thermal imaging. And as you say, Hamadryad, apparently thermal imaging will be able to determine, to a certain degree, the functionality of the roots. Just got to sell the idea to the client now....
  20. Lorry - I'm quite new to this side of it too. I think I'm going to sound out how much it'll be to get a consultant in to assess the extent of root damage with an air spade and maybe some kind of decay detection to check out what the gano's up to... Like I said, the customer loves this tree so hopefully he'll swallow the cost of a consultant. When the responsibility feels like it's getting too much, there's nothing like passing the buck
  21. Thanks for your time guys. I did spend quite a while on the Fungi Directory (fantastic resource btw) but I dismissed Merip because the flesh didn't bruise. Maybe I just wasn't punching it hard enough Guess it might be time to find some friendly soul with an airspade...
  22. Due to the rubbish camera on my otherwise lovely iphone, I might have to resort to painting a picture with words.... Ok, so I found these two on a large copper beech that is the pride and joy of the owner. Exhibit one - these guys were growing very close to the buttresses - underside is very smooth and doesn't colour when bruised. Exhibit two - reasonable size brackets, emanating from an old pruning wound approx 1.5m up the trunk. I immediately thought Ganoderma (the underside is much lighter than it appears in pics - pretty much white) but the top is black and bubbly. The canopy is full and healthy, no signs of dieback. The tree is leaning slightly towards the house, with the fungus on the tension side of the trunk. Its a lovely specimen, with an awesome gnarly old butt where it was grafted, I'm going back to the site on friday so will try get a photo of that too. Any shedding of light on my deplorable fungi ignorance would be great
  23. but you can roll it in glitter...
  24. stampy

    Invention.

It'd better not be a rip off of my 2-stroke aromatherapy range - sick of the same old 2-stroke smell? Well these 2-stroke shots enriched with essential oils are for you. Pine fresh for a monday morning boost, soothing lavender for the mid week stress, and revitalising ginseng to finsh the week off. THEN you could make a nostalgic, limited edition one, that just smelt like a normal 2-stroke mix. Stihl would go for that, right?
  25. I wish I had customers with lockjacks in their pockets.... Rowden - Yeah, its really expensive, but its just personal preference - I reckon climbing on a lockjack makes me £150 happier, if not £150 faster. Oh, and I paid more like £200 for mine
