  1. Good LAWD! I kinda do look like that guy! Ewwwwwwww--- I hate my mother.
  2. Don't you sense my sense of humor?
  3. Hey bro,, I happen to agree with MB when it comes to topping/pollarding. If you can prove what he's saying is complete schlock, then do so in an intelligent fashion. Let's not just criticize him for a point of view shared by the leading personalities in tree health.... As for anyone else who thinks he's full of it,, back it up with cited evidence from arboricultural texts. Show us where it states that topping is needed and accepted in this industry...
  4. I've been asked recently to be the climber of a large Red Maple removal by a shady sort of company. I'm not impressed with any of there work and quite frankly, I think they're butchers. But, I do need the scratch and I'm willing to share my expertise.. My wife is worried that if I'm injured on their bill, nothing will be done to help pay any long term expenses.. I have rather good health insurance, but, if I'm hurt due to their negligence, then I may be up the creek.. I'm certain that the owner will do everything possible not to show responsibility if anything were to happen. I am set up as an LLC so any business done on my end is legit. But I'm not a lawyer and I really don't know what I need to do legally to protect me from anything that may happen on their time... Any knowledge shared would be helpful..

Here's another; Eye injuries are something I wouldn't wish on anyone. I've had many lens scratches that would smart for two days or more. One nasty branch found it's way into my eye one fateful day. I was pruning a Bradford Pear from the ground and not wearing any protection. As I was picking up the brush off the ground, I stood, then turned toward the chipper and started to walk the load to the pile. Just as I took my first step, a long slender branch, the diameter of a pencil, found it's way into the socket of my eye. It went completly into my eye, right in the corner next to the nose. The branch pushed my eye to the side as it went into the socket. It drove itself close to an inch inside. I jerked back just as fast as I walked into it. Luckily no damage was done to the eye, not even a scratch. Though the socket hurt like all hell for a few days afterward... From then on, I made damn sure that I wore my saftey glasses! For at least 10 minutes a day...
  6. What's that supposed to mean, my brother from another mother?
  7. I'm certain that most of us could have used a little more couth when sharing our "oppinions" with the thread starter. Right or wrong, some of us needed to show a little more respect.. And not just blast away at someone for sharing their concern with something that they obviously find important...
  8. The only thing I would change is the addition of the suffix- "or" after the "arb." It just seems to me that's it's missing a little something.. Then again,, maybe it's a European thing....
  9. Jeeeeeze! Even Hungarian gypsies are more refined than that....
  10. Bwaaaaaaaaa-haaaaaaaaaaa!!!!
  11. I always thought that the correct way to pollard was to stub off a branch, wait for it to "witch's broom," then cut each volunteer back to the next bud shoot- nearest to the start of the suckered sprout.. Then continue this process for a few more years, until you end with a large narley stub reminiscent of a fist each time it's cut back, but allowing it to grow and thicken slightly each time it's pruned.... I'm not sure if I made myself clear,, it's kinda of hard to put it in words when you've never done it yourself... And I know that topping here in the States, is basically just cutting the branch off at any old where and letting it grow back without scheduling any routine maintenence pruning with the tree from that point forward..
  12. I had a terrible ariel rescue during an ISA comp. It happened after I rescued the dummy and made my way down. When I landed on my feet, with the dummy resting across my lap, I was so tired from the heat and the other events that the weight of the dummy had me pinned to the ground. So i'm now laying there with this 150 pound man puppet on top of me- and to make it worse, the local news station was filming for their 6:00 spot! About 100 people had a great laugh that day...
  13. I worked at satans home,, really! I wish I took photo's of what's doing in their yard, you'd be shocked-- really! Maybe when Google street view gets to their neighborhood, I'll send the link-- you'll be scarred! Really! I'd tell you about satan himself, and his live in mistress/sister,, but you probably wouldn't believe me,, really.....
  14. Most of my cuts are done with either a pole saw or pruner. So when working at heights, if I didn't yell "headache!" They'd have one....
  15. Indeed, but wouldn't it be just as easy to call out "Arch Stanton!"
  16. When working at heights, I was trained to identify my falling debris with the standard call of "Headache!" So what do you all call out when dropping the load?
  17. When I get my photoshop re-installed, I'm on it!
  18. I don't know what I was thinking,, just saying "drop it," and all. It never worked with my wife either---- Hey! Wait a minute! Is that you my honeydoodles??? Actually, I wouldn't do anything to it. I mean, have you seen the size of that thing!
  19. I see it like this; we can speculate all day long on what we think is --or isn't the right thing to do. So what do you do in a situation like this? You turn to someone who is the authority in such matters. If Dr.Alex Shigo says it's wrong, then don't touch it... thread closed.
  20. I have, a few times. And that's only if the client is adamant on having it their way. I will say that with gentle persuasion and reason, they start to understand that you're the professional and what you suggest is the right thing to do... Have you even hugged an orangutang lately? They're so darn cuddly!.....
  21. Here a few Banyan/Strangler Figs... The last two were of the Strangler's after they had devoured their host...
  22. Bwaaaaaahaaaaa-haaaaaa-haaa!!!
  23. That's it exactly. What's the point of doing this type of pruning to trees. This is the common practice for ornamentals,, only... And this isn't just my opinion, it's a fact -that no good will come from this type of pruning... No offense to you Glen, honestly...
