  1. Any photos of the rig for sale??
  2. If you had know he was coming you could put it round a mates house!
  3. Sack the groundie!! He should have put someone elses address on the form!!
  4. 1.5 ton chipper OR a load might be better!
  5. I had thought of sliding doors and fillign form the side but have never needed to so its overcomplicating. turnign the chipper 90 degrees to the back will cover most situations. Gas struts are again a good idea but we dicussed before that you would have to remove nay ladders on top every time you wanted to use them. My current think is to have a high enough box for woodchip to go into but then put some storage space in the top corner at the fron end so that this area can't be filled with chip. That way you carry only as much as you would with a lower roof and so you don't overload.
  6. Sorry I removed my post so yours now makes little sense. I thought it was derailing the thread so I'll start again on the chip box thread I started, but not until its finished will I know the final cost but it is mounting up!
  7. You've been a great help this evening mate thanks!
  8. Good points!! The LDV I bought came from a builder and I'd rather that than buying from a tree bloke! Theres a cabstar round these parts that belongs to a quarry and is used for deliver loads of cotswold stone for walling, that should never be sold on to anybody, also you would never buy from a tarmac/flat roofing company either. I guess many trades wreck stuff. Arbs are no different, I know I try to look after vehicles but have done plenty of overloading in the past.
  9. Legally the overhang can be 66% (two thirds) of the wheel base so no problem as long as it tips ok without snappign the back off, and as mentioned before the rear axle isn't overloaded. Still got some maths (guesswork) to do!
  10. You spotted that quickly! Theres more tipper behind the back wheels than in front! I never really noticed until now looking through old photos to see what other truck look like. You can't but a LWB LDV crew cab tipper. It came as a dropside and he didn't measure it, just took the dropside off and bolted the tipper on and never though twice about it. I'm feeling better about my project now!
  11. How many miles has this new LDV done?
  12. Peter, check the overhang on this baby! Its a tipper from an extra LWB crew cab LDV bolted onto and standard LWB Crew cab. it belonged to a friend and whent for years no worries. Drove like a pig of course but it went, no power steering if I remember correctly. Mine won't be as bad as this.
  13. Why do we accept that its ok for arborists to abuse everything? Its only woodchip and logs going in it, not as destructive as many builders materials can be.
  14. My old one cost 2k in 2002 with 60k miles on it and M reg so about seven years old at the time. Now its (over)due to retire but still has only 102k miles on it. Most expensive MOT was 400 quid, twice, other MOT's were less than that, no other major expenses, no speeding tickets, no good if your late getting somewhere.
  15. Sold. 40 quid scrap!!

    Easy money.

Not knocking you. hourly rate is all irrelevant as it depends on what kit you have. 40 and hour is good for a climber or groundy, but these guys on here with there mogs and the biggest trees in the world ever need to make much more than that and more than I need to earn too.

    Easy money.

Well in that case you didn't earn 10 quid in 15 minutes, you did the work for nothing and he gave you a tenner, nice!

Thats only 40 quid an hour? I wouldn't leave home for that. 400 quid in half hour once, police escort to site too! Branch failed over busy road traffic held up in both direction, police brought me to the front of the queue from miles away. The branch was a whole upright stem of beech leaning into another beech and towards the road. I climbed the good beech and cut one branch off and the whole leanign section collapsed into the verge and a bit in the road. The land owner had employees there to clear up I went home!
  19. Did you actually watch the video. Missed the point somewhat me thinks!.

  21. Drew, have you seen ones that use a piece of wire inside the spliced eye to keep it open? They work well for releasing, don't know how easy it is to get the wire in there though!
  22. Its 12 foot long! I take it no one wants its then!
  23. No, adding a roller shutter tool box. the overhang will be the same as on a crew cab tipper. (almost)
  24. I'm taking the dropside back off this truck and it will go to the scraper unless I can sell it for a few quid. Its steel and the wooden bed inside has seen better days! I know we all use tippers but I might as well offer it here just in case. Also the light board at the back and the spare wheel carrier are coming off and will be for sale if anyone wants them.
  25. Yey, more pink boots, just what we all need!!!!!
