  1. I believe that's what they call Art mate!! Why, do you know that bike? I took that pic whilst at the NEC bike show last year....Cool innit!
  2. Pegs are a total pain in the arse...except when they arnt. The trick is knowing when you can usefully make life easier by leaving it and removing it once its served its' purpose....
  3. "Resitograph is invasive, and evidance that its fine holes promote barrier penetration (schwarze)" The fact that the less discreet methods ,resulting in a more obviously invasive and damaging appearance (ie bloody great holes in the tree ) is likely to promote less of an infection court is well documented.... I remain to be convinced of the need to expend time, effort and resource on unknown, unproven technology ( as an industry) when the rewards are less than clear.... Technology can be great. It can also be a PITA...
  4. That looks proper funky mate.....Did you see the Isle of Man TT this year atall? Hybrid bikes are the next big thing..if the politicians let us use our heads...Average lap times were in the top 80's MPH...well down on the four strokes but man alive...thats no slouch round that circuit 'tween U & Me bro!!
  5. Last but not least ..I bought a Yamaha MT-01... There are a host of manufacturers mods on mine...but essentially she weighs in at over the quarter tonne ( 265kg) Brakes derived from the R1 and the motor snatched from the Warrior . 1670cc. Significant rework to lighten the crank, flywheel and alter performance bandwidth...this puppy only kicks out 87 bhp( @rear wheel) but significantly produces 150Nm of torque @ 3250-3275rpm...Its a real hoot and something of a tyre shredder:lol:
  6. Nice one...thats not the Uk I know!!?
  7. As a member of the TRF(Trail Riders Ferderation) iI try and ride out most w/e on the green lanes in and around EA. (East Anglia) Crazy...We used to have the largest by membership count of all the groups in the uk (Norfolk ) with the least green lane. NERC put the stops on that...A short sighted piece of legislation..at least from a recreation point of view..The truth perhaps is that we were taken slightly for knapping by the ramblers who campaingned ardently for the exclusion of bikers...the rest as they say.. Anyhoo...I like my trusty ( Ha..thats a stretch of the imagination ) British manufactured CCM dual sport 600 cc trail bike.... ( what larks eh pip? )
  8. Her she is....rear wheel is from GSX-r1100....
  9. I been trying to upload pics but its so slow ... I recently stuffed my aging but beloved GSX-R750j on the track... Im sure I cant be the only adrenalin seeking junkie to do this...not on an arb focused arena??
  10. Right...you gotta wire your hard drive to the system of a.n another puter (usb to a working PC ) Once you get the hard drive ( let me think..in windows was called c drive?) Either way..if it doesnt mount on the desktop of the "mule" system...you need to seek professional help:lol:
  11. Its easy once you know how!! I dont run windows anymore cos its crap...I retrieved files from a windows system even after the screen died. Get a mate to help you out. The tech boys will rip U off but if you gotta use them....? Its all pssible!
  12. The Strange Affair of Sam Corngrass
  13. Bin following the fortunes of BMW throughout 2009... I hope they put their money where their mouth is ( this is slated "up" 4 production) Faster and Faster: BMW Concept 6 unveiled, is the most awesome bike at this year's EICMA!
  14. It was ripped off from the start....
  15. Even pissed, I am quite careful as to the language I use and subsequently the sense I convey..... I think you are a perfectly intelligent human being but that your interpretation of my intended meaning is "your interpretation" This for me is the basis for discussion...... I do not recognise the sense that you set out from my comments Hama... I would be somewhat insulted infact when you consider the generalisation made in your previous post as to what an average arb does/doesnot or is/isnot capable of..... Its all too easy on forums to be an a**h**e without realising that its actually just your own agenda that tends to force its' way to the surface. Ah...sorry.Officailly derailed I think....
  16. Actually probably not Hama...I appreciate the difficulties of identification. I am however of the opinion that those species of fungus rated as rare, may well not be so rare......but perhaps that this whole thing is something of a red herring.... I am an ARBORIST first and foremost....For me, the classification and taxonomy of of fungi is an arena into which I look only in relation to trees and probably further, only in terms of amenity. I dont want to sound all bitter and twisted about it. Those who are priviledged to work with the ancients and such are just that. Im not sure where the preservation of this resource; quite singular to the uk is all heading. Its only an arena for the employed if indeed you are yourself priviledged...... As an arbo, its hard to tell those who "halo" "Retrench"" aerate " etc etc where to get off. Most of us do a job. We provide a service.....My opinion is my arsehole..I am always surprised when others express an interest therein!!
  17. The daft thing about this and (imo ) the whole "whats wrong with pollarding " argument (as it is somehow related by the repeated pruning that such a strategy entails) By pruning out canopy, water uptake can be prevented and so swd (soil water deficit) reduced/halted. I think Im right in saying tho' that the resulting regrowth results in increased water uptake as the tree scrambles to mobilise resources... leading to, you guessed it an increased water deficit. The problem stems from, as has rightly been said, the soil environment (structure) and building foundations. Drought, perhaps experienced in conjunction for the first time with data as it was available, in the 70's led to shrinking soils on clay and problems related to building stability. Its not a tree problem. Its a building issue. Insurers forcing our hand.(Money, mortgage, insurance) Oh and the media machine doing what it does best...bullshitting us!!!
  18. IME-In my experience David= MonkeyD Does this help?
  19. David said "I've found that both Mattheck & Butin do." Mattheck, a self confessed "non-mycologist" Regional variability would not be atall unusual ime.
  20. It starts life looking like this...
  21. Looks abit like Phellinus igniarius...."White trunk rot" I note from Phillips the following... "May be a complex of species not yet fully resolved" Hosts on deciduous and Ill grant you. willow is nowhere the same as oak.... Ive seen the conks turn from a creamy white , to a form more reminiscent of Fomes (Hoof fungus). It cracks like the image shown. "It isnt rare..." Really?
  22. If its trees on development sites, this may be helpful. Tree Roots-Perry.pdf Root conflict.pdf Tree roots.pdf
  23. This the angle you got on it James? root system dev.pdf root severance.pdf
  24. Thats a shame man...Arbtalk and the clash of ignorance & ego is responsible for the demise of another tree......We're so Professional (NB Sarcasm ) Its a bit like the AA bashing that gets oh so boring
  25. Mmm....Ive seen examples, one after the next, with visible fluting that is typical of "torsional stress" as in the pictures posted at the start of this thread. I am sorry ol mate, I dont for a moment think they are all cracked/damaged inside in the way you have (quite properly perhaps ) described...... Dont bother replying in length Hama. I am NOT having a go...just my observation. cheers. Tim.
