  5. I insisted on picking the peterson up and paying in cash but my guy was having none of it he wanted it paid for before I picked it up, I asked him could he put someone one the phone on his behalf but he got narky and accused me of implying he was a thief (which I think he was!) so I just cut ties because he didn't convince me. Man it's such a downer when you think you've got lucky, but like the saying goes - if it sounds too good to be true, well I think I'll let ye finish the rest Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  6. This sounds exactly like my situation a few weeks ago, there was a peterson mill on ebay which I was interested in, I contacted the seller about it through email and after getting a response he said he'd give me it as a buy it now for £3k before auction ended, I was over the moon said id ring him for details but he emailed back saying he couldn't talk because he just had a throat operation and told me to pay for it immediately through PayPal I think, every email his English seemed more suspect so to make the story short I let it be but watched in horror to see someone put a final bid of over £6k. I really hope someone did not get caught Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  9. It's really opened my eyes how good this forum is and how helpful, ok here's my state of play, after weighing everything up I decided I should go the mini digger route but not spending a big ball of money from the get go, So in the past few days I was fortunate to pick up a 3 ton 98' bobcat mini digger in good tight condition and have ordered a 7 finger grapple from Vemac engineering which will be dropped to my door for £490 which I think is great, I picked the digger up for £6k and think if I'm happy with it and it brings a new dimension to my company will move it on in a year or so and upgrade, if not it won't go to waste on the farm and a few suitable jobs. 12. Ya I would presume the step up in tonnage would make a difference but good to know all the same, ok next question is money, what would I expect to pay for a 3 to 5 year old tight machine Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  13. I think what Matthew said is spot on, there's a great opportunity to get extra work after the tidy up I.e small stump clearance or possibly levelling top soil, on the other hand an avant is very handy also and will move brash and logs quick but to me the track machine is that bit more versitile, is a 1.5 slightly under powered? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  14. That's great info I really appreciate that Steve, anybody going to defend the avant or is the mini digger a clear winner in the all rounder stakes. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  15. Holy that's fairly expensive but it's most definitely the real deal for tree surgery so can't complain too much to be fair, can I put this question to you Steven, how high up the list would you rate that setup in your company? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  16. What is the cost of your grapple setup Steven, that's exactly what I'm thinking about, I have a holder A60 that I could convert to a loader setup if needs be as I have a spare 1 with spade that I haven't converted to my good holder as I use it only for winch work. Cheers for the info Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  17. General stuff and yes alot of private take downs, so you don't think it's a runner Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  18. Hi everyone, strongly thinking of getting one of the above but not sure which one, machines I'm thinking about is 3ton mini digger any model with grapple or something like an avant loader. Any thoughts on either would be much appreciated. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  19. Thanks difflock, thats funny I own a baker saw also, great bit of gear but getting tired now so looking at something reliable and capable that will handle most logs in moderation as it will be operated by my father who has 45years of cutting behind him and we are looking at getting him a mill that will see out his working years all this of course without breaking the bank☺ also looking at purchasing a 2nd hand lucas in conjunction with this so we can break down any big logs Sent from my GT-I9505 using Arbtalk mobile app
