  1. Yes I have a holder tractor and 4 tonne winch but was also thinking of loadall and maybe extending boom out longside whatever tree is being cut attach rope, lift to tension, cut and bring extension back in. There is another guy who's pricing to do it with a barge with the intention of cutting branches to fall on barge and to off load them near the closest opening but I just can't see how that is going to work if there's a flow in the river.
  2. Hi all, just wanting your opinion on a job I have to look at where low lying branches have to be cut as part of a flood relief operation it stretches over 1k along a river bank with species such as sycamore and laylandii, approx 400 metres has a cattle field behind trees but the band of trees are tight and pretty dense with the farm owner only happy to open up 2-3 sections to bring branches out through, also the job stipulates that no branches can fall into river which is going to be tricky basically I am wondering has anyone on here done a similar job and what method was used, any ideas would be much appreciated. Cheers
  3. yes will do in next couple of days

  4. just finishing clearfell with it she will be ready to go in two weeks alot of interest in her so best offer secures

  5. Hi everyone, i am selling my holder A60 check the last page in Mb trac thread. cheers
  6. so what is the ideal flail for a holder i think it would be a dead handy piece of kit to have regardless if its not being used too often
  7. thats a nice looking holder so do you guys think its possible to get a mulcher that would be good enough to do the job or is it a dead duck, i have no expertise in the mulching area but i reckon any farmer that has maybe 2-3 acres of good spruce that maybe thinking of expanding the land might be inticed to get rid of his trees if this alternative was available that would mean no money changing hands and a decent profit from timber and the farmer happy with not having to deal with branches i dont know about you guys but here timber seems to be the only thing that hasn't suffered during the recession,if its on roadside its whipped up straight away and there are no signs of it easing up
  8. could you get a mulcher for a holder or would it be powerful enough to drive one i reckon it would be a dead handy set up for mulching branches on the ground in a small clearfell
  9. ok guys another thing to throw at you, at least 150 trees to be taken out are the first line of a grove along a drive way which im guessing would have to be stumpgrinded as to not upset the inside row or am i wrong in this theory as i said roots are not my speciality also the remaining trees are seperate small groves at the end of driveway which are coming out completely so nothing to upset there
  10. cheers will send in price and see how it goes will let you know how i get on
  11. cheers guys, so am i calling it right that it may be better to invest in one
  12. just looking for opinions from people and options on pricing, i have a job coming up with about 3-4 hundred douglas fir and larch and scots to come out all of which is to be harvested i am also being asked to quote for chipping and grinding problem is i do not have a grinder. First of all i am wondering how much it would cost to grind all butts with 70% being about 30" in diameter the rest about 20" and secondly if they do go for it would i be better off investing in one as i presume thats a fairly big grinding job
  13. Thank you Richard, i will try that it looks good. what are parts like cutter1 are they reasonable or expensive
  14. Hi Will, yes it is it's a 65hp engine built by holder which is a bit of a problem as its hard to get parts , do you have any contacts
  15. Hi Everyone, I am on the prowl again for another Holder A60 im looking to build a decent one from the one i have and the one im hoping to get so basically im looking for a non forestry spec one(no problem if it is) which doesn't have to be great looks wise but needs to be running well, can someone please help
  16. Thank you for reply i will get all info tomorrow friday the 28th and i will send on details thank you for your help.
  17. Hi, I have been asked to give a daily rate on measureing the height of about 500 hectres of spruce which is quiet dense , i have one of my lads lined up to do it with a laser measurement but am wondering what i should be charging as this isnt a thing i come across alot but have done alot of work for this company and haven't let them down yet, my worker has done forestry management so is used to measureing trees but not much point in me taking job up if i cant make a profit out of it.To finish its for a big windmill company who want to see if the trees are restricting windflow to turbines. Thanks
  18. no never had a problem with either buzz but found it abit sensitive at start with crane just the normal getting used to machine problems but i would say the biggest thing this machine has going for it is that its so simple but very well made, i mean you have no electrics everything is very easy to fix its all in front of you no need to break your back to get at things
  19. sorry buz i have no pictures of tracks on soft ground yet but will send on when i get them. yes it takes out a surprisingly good load, in that job we were shifting about 1ton and 3/4 a load she is also very quick when she hits her track
  20. we also got bandtracks with the alstor which will nearly make it travel on water i think the psi is 2 compared to a humans 5 which is impressive so bogs are no problem to this machine, but before i say anymore, like your job ed with the osa this machine has a limit and though i may come accross like we do everything with it it's still a case of horses for courses and you still have to rely on your timberjack every so often for the big heavy work so if its a case of it being anyway out of the alstors league send in the timberjack but the alstor will still do a massive amount of work
  21. yep spot on its the one from bells not alot went into it to be honest it was very straight and you know the way things go if a machine is left in the corner of a yard for awhile you maybe take a quick glance instead of having a good look and can leave something good behind so thankfully it worked out well
  22. sorry guys it only let me send 2 but will try get more on
