  1. Hahaha, You sound like me David, I waited outside every shop while our lass and my daughter went in, I couldn't stand it
  2. No thats wrong again. It's easier to think of it as weight. so If the original dry log weighs 1000 grams The you add 32% moisture that makes the log 1320g But that doesn't mean 68% is the log, because 68% of 1320 is 897g whereas 68% of the dry log is 680g I can't even think straight now, someone sort it out
  3. I used to have some which I took the lining out for really hot days, so they look like chainsaw trousers but weren't
  4. Oh, dont be bashful David, post a pic so we can slate it
  5. Thats the boxwood theory blown Boxwood is lighter Ian, almost yellow and small tight grain
  6. I beg to differ Al. Exhaust coke / soot up to some degree, they cannot do anything but, it's just how fast they do it. You have tuned saws so you are seriously telling me that you have never cut into an exhaust that hasn't had deposits of carbon ????? I've been a mechanic for 30 years Al and I've never come across one
  7. Shrekkie, I've been watching the weather round your end and you've had a really rough ride the last month or so Bet your lot haven't been wearing their skirts very often
  8. ooohh Marc....! I would call them tricks of the trade mate not dodgy tricks
  9. Castor oil does run "wetter" ie you will see the exhaust pipe wet. So it probably does carbon up more than Stihl synthetic. I use it because Castor has always been associated with high performance racing two strokes and is still used now. I also love the smell although I can't smell it now but I often get comments on how nice my saws smell and it's partly nostalga from the days of watching speedway. It is quite expensive as well so price isn't a factor
  10. I've done it quite a few times now
  11. You are the lucky one then !!!!!!!!!!!! They do carbon up on the inside even if they dont have spark arresters, if the dont have spark arresters they will have an outlet smaller then the inlet to cause back pressure. They will carbon up eventually, thats a fact. All two strokes do. Not so common now with modern synthetics but I dont use synthetic two stroke, I use castor oil Before synthetic oils I can remember plugging up motorcycle exhausts and filling them with a bicarb mixture to disolve the carbon residues Its only a tip Huck, you dont have to do it if you dont want to..!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. It happens on ALL saws this was just an example . edit: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ??????????????????????????????????????????????
  13. I run a little MS170 as a chipper saw, just lately it's been gradually losing power ( the bit of power they do have) . One thing to check apart from the normal air filter clogging is exhaust clogging. Many saws have spark arrester screens or small apertures behind the deflector plate which, over time clog with carbon. As you can see in the photos, mine was very clogged which was choking the exhaust gas flow. You can wire brush it out but the best way if you have access to it is to heat the carbon with Oxy/acetylene which turns it to dry dust and can be brushed off Before and after photos and now it runs like a new saw.
  14. This one is a monster veteran Stevie, she is full of cavities from old branch loss tears, I expressed my concerns last year saying it wouldn't be long before a large failure. I was climbing this tree last year when I looked in a cavity and a squirrel flew at me and jumped ontop of my head then up the tree, babbed myself
  15. They do have some funny words these scottish people
  16. I'm sure the motorists wouldn't have minded waiting for 20 minutes while you fell it across the road and clear up, I've heard they are very accomodating and patient in Scotland, specailly round the gorbels area Whats a Burn BTW
  17. You just need slightly bigger gahooners Stevie. I doubt you'd have damaged granite edgings or cobbles
  18. Looks like it was pishing it down Stevie.. Should have just felled it dude and knocked £100 off the bill
  19. It had have been quicker with a saw bench He'll be deaf after the second bundle
  20. Could have been a 7.5 tonner Hyperthetical guys
